Director’s Notes When first reading the play Spreading it Around, it’s easy to pass it off as merely a silly comedy of errors. However, if you really pay attention to the dialogue, you understand its true message — one of kindness and compassion for one another. From neighbors checking on each other and helping each other out with household tasks, to donating money to those less fortunate, the message is clear. We may not be able to choose our family, but we can choose our friends who, if we are lucky, become our chosen family.

I also see this play as a love letter to Florida, specifically Southwest Florida, and I hope that my vision and of this production portrays that. So sit back, enjoy the show and when you leave here whether it’s a kind word, donating your time or money, or checking up on an old friend, please start spreading it around. --Victoria Diebler

Cast Biographies Bonnie Knapp (Angie Dryton) is thrilled to again perform on The Marco Players’ stage. Some of her other favorite roles include Abby in Ripcord, Margie in Good People, Miss Fischer in A Picasso with TNP, and Sue Mengers in I’ll Eat You Last A Chat With Sue Mengers at the Lab Theater. She’s grateful to Victoria for this opportunity and to her husband for his support.

Andrew Ciliberto (Martin B. Wheeler) is delighted to once again perform as part of The Marco Players. A native of New York City, Andrew’s seven- year acting career includes performances with The Naples Players at The Sugden Theater, The Studio Players at The Jenks Auditorium and The Marco Players.

His sincere thanks go to everyone within The Marco Players organization; the talented cast of Spreading It Around, stage crew and to the Director Victoria Diebler for this opportunity. And a very special thanks and love to Deborah and Mac for their never-ending support.

Alex “Hubba” Costello (Larry Drayton) will be making his fifth appearance in a Marco Players production, playing Larry in Spreading It Around. Hubba lives in Fiddler’s Creek with his bride, Antoinette. He plays golf, writes golf books and plays, and tries to keep up with his two grandchildren, Max and Lucia, who live in Chicago with Lexi and Nick. Hubba’s younger daughter, Zoe, lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. Rhonda Davis (Traci Drayton) is delighted to be in her sixth production at TMP. She got her start as a lip-syncing choir member and one of the Dead in Our Town at The Naples Players, and she also played Mattie Fae in August: Osage County at The Studio Players. Many thanks to Victoria and her wonderful cast mates for making it all a lot of fun, to the crew and volunteers for their hard work, and to Harvey for his endless encouragement and patience running lines.

Christi Lueck-Sadiq (Dr. Krapinsky) is a new snow bird to the area and this is her first production with The Marco Players. She spends her summers in Elkhart Lake, WI running her Bed and Breakfast and vacation home rentals.

Her passion is singing and theatre, animal rights and volunteering at Domestic Animal Services in Naples. She is excited to meet new people on the island and looks forward to future productions.

Production Crew Biographies Victoria Diebler (Director) started in the theatre when she was in the 7th grade. Since then, she has taken countless classes and performed on stage, film and TV. Other than staged readings and working with children, this marks her directing debut. She is thrilled to have this opportunity and thanks Beverly Dahlstrom for trusting her. And she is greatly indebted to her talented cast and crew for donating their time and love of the theatre to make this an incredible show! As always, she thanks her family and friends for their continued support with her theatrical adventures.

Bill Harris (Production Volunteer Coordinator) retired after 25+ years in program and project management for a Fortune 500 company. He conducted and managed the recruitment and training of highly skilled individuals in the IT world. Prior to starting his civilian career of project and program management, he served on active duty for almost thirty years in the Submarine Force of the United States Navy. Bill attended college at Florida State and has degrees from Three Rivers University in Connecticut. Bill is married to his high school sweetheart, Joan, for over 55 years. He and his wife are both retired and live on Marco Island year-round. Bill is looking forward to engaging others in the community in a meaningful way and to contribute in a productive manner.

Carolyn Burger (Hospitality Volunteer Coordinator) retired to Marco Island, FL from Northeast Ohio after a career in education administration. Carolyn is also a professional artist, known for her colorful paintings of local wildlife, beach scenes and Florida landscapes. Carolyn also volunteers at Tommie Barfield Elementary School, The Marco Players and serves as a board member of the Marco Island Foundation for the Arts. You will also find her in local art shows and special art events.

Jim Swanker (Master Carpenter, Set Design Coordinator) is a Marco Players Board Member, a fine artist and a master carpenter. After retiring from East Stroudsburg University in Pennsylvania, Jim and his wife Karen, also an artist, settled here on Marco Island. They spend winters on Marco Island and summers with family in Jackson Hole. Since joining The Marco Players, Jim has created dozens of sets for our stage.

Jim Houghton (Light Board Specialist) grew up on Marco Island and graduated from Lynn University in Boca Raton, FL with a degree in Psychology.

When not in the tech booth, Jim is one of the gym rats at the Marco Fitness Club. He spends his summers in New York State on the St. Lawrence River.

Production Crew Biographies cont’d Karen Swanker (Art Coordinator) is creating the theater’s “Cast of Caricatures,” and assists with scenery design. Karen and Jim also select, coordinate and display the work of local artists on the theater’s Gallery Wall, She holds credentials from the Hussian School of Art in Philly, and a degree in Fine Arts from East Stroudsburg University. Karen’s experience includes teaching art and crafts as well as a career in advertising for Trent Graphics. An active member of the Marco Island community of artists, Karen was a member of the Artist Colony at the Esplanade and serves on the Board of Directors of MIFA. Brian Phillip Stewart (Technical Director, Sound & Lighting Design) is grateful for the opportunity to come join The Marco Players as the Technical Director.

Brian earned a BA in Theatre from Hanover College and headed straight for the theatrical world of Austin, Texas. Brian spent the last 4 years working all over Austin in theater, television and radio. During that time, he immersed himself into the small community sect of Austin’s entertainment industry.

In 2016, he won Best Sound Design for his work on Tarzan The Musical, and learned that his talents were more suited for the tangible aspects that theater can provide to it’s audience; rather than the hustle and bustle of studio production work.

Jeff Hoover (Production Stage Manager) has been involved in theatre since he was a teenager volunteering alongside his parents. Jeff has been an actor, backstage crew member, light board operator, director, lighting designer and for the past several years a Stage Manager. Jeff directed productions of Collected Stories and Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks and Stage Managed productions of All My Sons, Sylvia, The Last Romance and The Goodbye Girl among many others for The Naples Players. Jeff is pleased to be involved with The Marco Players and looking forward to an exciting future of quality entertainment for you.

Joan Harris (Props Master) Retired from a career in office management and bookkeeping for electrical and construction firms, Joan and her husband moved to Marco Island as Snow Birds in 2009 and since 2014 have made Marco their permanent home. She enjoys travel, crafts and spending as much time as possible with her children and grandchildren. Joan is a welcome addition to our production crew.

Alexandra Bates (Costume Design) is new to Marco Island by way of Austin, Texas. She brings over 10 years’ experience in acting, writing, singing, directing and costuming. She is thrilled to join her first Marco Island Players show.

Acting Essentials All levels of adults ages 18 and over During this 6-week class, you will learn about the Meisner Method which is a highly engaging way to develop your stage presence, expand your acting skills, and gain self-awareness and confidence.

Kids in ACTion Youth ages 8 - 12 During this 6-week youth acting class, participants will experience a supportive environment where they will be taught and encouraged to express themselves while building skills and confidence in movement, emotion, and speaking.

Alexandra Bates - Instructor Actor, Writer, Singer & Director Alexandra brings 6 years of extensive theater experience in film, television and commercials.

She received a Screen Actor’s Guild award for her work on National V8 commercials and was selected as a finalist by Young Performer’s Studio for an intensive training where she received multiple offers by LA agents. She studied under former LA casting director and acting coach Laurel Vouvray who studied under Sanford Meisner, the developer of the Meisner Technique.

Hospitality Volunteers Rack Up the Hours

Our hospitality volunteers are extremely important to the success of The Marco Players. This group of dedicated men and women greet guests, help them find their seat, serve refreshments on Opening Night, answer questions and monitor everyone’s safety at each of the shows. You will recognize them with their black pants, white shirts, black vests and big smiles.

Last season our hospitality volunteers worked a total of 997.5 hours during the six Main Productions and four Lunch Box shows. They each choose the days and shows that work out best for them. Some volunteers may work 3 hours per play while others may work 15 or more hours per play.

Hospitality volunteers giving the greatest number of hours last season were Martha Mulvey with 83 hours; Meily Kuperus, 71 hours; Larry Hood, 58 hours; and Judy Measel, 55 hours! A big THANK YOU goes out to all of our volunteers. They are such a great group of individuals who love working with people and love the theater!

Gallery Wall Artists Tara O’Neill Award-winning artist Tara O’Neill lives in tiny, mittensize Goodland, one of just a handful of working fishing villages remaining on Florida’s west coast; a place she describes as being filled with “history, mystery, and endless inspiration.” Born the ninth of ten children to an Irish immigrant father and grammatically-fussy mother, the household balance of runaway creativity and intellectual structure were paramount in the young artist’s development. The tropical palette of her Florida childhood permeates her work. Although most noted for her vivid oil paintings, O’Neill is truly a multi-disciplined artist. Her work is installed in private and corporate collections around the world.

Judy Wittwer With over 30 years of faux finishing experience in the Collier County area, along with a deep passion for the sea, Judy developed an outlet for her creative shell art. She holds a BFA in ceramics and print making.

A member of the Goodland Arts Alliance, Marco Island Center for the Arts and the Goodland Civic Association, Judy brings multi-venue art classes and workshops to the area on a year-round basis.

From The President As we welcome 2019 and our 45th season, The Marco Players is planning for the future. The theme for this season is “It’s Time!”

“It’s Time to Grow” The Marco Players welcome three new members to our theater operations team.

Brian Phillip Stewart is our Technical Director. Brian brings a degree in Theater and experience in theater, television and radio as well as an award in Best Sound Design from his theater work in Austin, TX. Jeff Hoover is our Production Stage Manager. Jeff brings years of theater volunteer experience as an actor, backstage crew member, light board operator, director and stage manager.

Caitlin Porter is our Box Office Manager. Caitlin brings a breadth of administrative skills as well as experience and passion for the work required in non-profit administration.

“It’s Time to Give” When our A/C went out last summer The Marco Players Theater was Hot, Hot, Hot! Southern Comfort Air, a Marco Island contractor came to our rescue, and our first campaign was named “It’s Time to Chill”.

Also, for the first time, The Marco Players participated in #GivingTuesday, an annual day of giving on November 27 for non-profit organizations.
