FA L L W I N T E R ( 1 4 ) M A I N C O L L E C T I O N W I N T E R T E M P E S T O N A N I RO N COA S T The inspiration for new Denham Fall Winter 14’ collection is soaked in the imagery of the dark stormy seas and wave-hammered industrial coastlines. Windswept and weather-beaten, the collection was influenced by the atmosphere of Turner’s dramatic maritime painting “Snow Storm – Steam Boat off a Harbours Mouth” as well as the dark mystery of Shakespeare’s play ‘The Tempest’. As always the attitude mixes classic work wear influences with genuine modernity. Turner’s frenzied brushstrokes and Shakespeare’s shadow y intrigue can be felt within richly textured fabrics, deeply- hued colors and submerged shine.
In men’s, a behemoth courier’s greatcoat from Germany has triggered the creation of the new Gelmok parka and technical Sumak mackintosh trench.. Rugged shawl-collared Feral ranch coats have been lightly padded, lined with warm tartan and built from a mix of structured twill and cotton duck canvas or thick loden wool. A submariner’s wartime drysuit has been transformed in the unique Squall USAF-style bomber jacket in garment-dyed nylon. The men’s leather has expanded featuring the artisan sheepskin X biker, the military goatskin Rank sportcoat and the new steerhide Baretta highway patrol jacket. The insulator jacket range has also been extended featuring the substantial Station Puffer, the zip-up Quilter jacket and chill-beating Cheater vest. COURSE TEXTURES, WARM TOUCH KNITS AND TIDAL ‘SHINE’ EFFECTS ON MIXED MEDIA SURFACES The coarse textures of the theme’s atmosphere have been knitted directly into Yak-blended sweaters, loop-backed merino wool sweat styles and heathered cotton basics. A warm overall touch is expressed on the color card where dark greys, tempest greens and deep nav y’s are accented with new hues like Worker’s Gold. 3

The SKIN - slim and R7 - regular, represent our take on the modern 5 pocket jean, featuring signature Denham details. A 7-Point hip pocket design takes it’s inspiration from the ‘hand of the worker’. The drop yoke on style SKIN modifies the visual break of the waistband whilst offering comfortable, modern re-inforcement. The R7 fits like a purist’s favourite, and carefully integrates the best of Denham’s arsenal of signature details.

BEFORE WE CREATED. WE COLLECTED. We collect not just to acquire; we collect to examine, analyze, and to learn. The DENHAM GARMENT LIBRARY supplies the raw material for our research, design and development. We can’t benefit from workwear traditions unless we understand them better, and new ideas crumble if they’re not built on a strong foundation. Each item in the library tells a story and each one represents a starting-point for our collections.

O U T E RW E A R The Jeanmakers wait patiently through the Spring and Summer to indulge their seasonal passion for Fall and Winter for outerwear. Their imaginations have again been ignited by the their latest vintage discoveries and their most recent research outings have uncovered another rich trove of design ideas.
G E L M O K PA R K A - Functional double shoulder flaps based on the original cover a re-invented double-breasted closure while also securing an anatomically angled document-pocket. Crafted in a unique tonal-slub canvas the Gelmok Parka is fully insulated and lined with warm brushed moleskin extending over the collars and lapels. Lower storage pockets are complimented with jetted hand-warmer pockets. Rugged triple stitched lapseams delivery work-ready ruggedness.
V I N TA G E G E L M O K The Gelmok parka represents the modernization of a courier’s greatcoat circa 1950 that was discovered as part of Denham’s season research. The original inspiration jacket was discovered close-to-home at Amsterdam’s Waterlooplein Market. GELMOK | COTTON NEPS tempest green

S U M A K T R E N C H - The Gelmok research specimen also inspired the new Sumak Trenchcoat. Made from carefully bonded Mackintosh fabric, black-against-camo, and featuring a fully taped seam construction, the Sumak represents a state of the art rainwear interpretation of the original.

F J O R D F I S H TA I L PA R K A The new Fjord parka combines elementsfrom earlier Denham designs as well as references to classic American and Canadian military styles. The Fjord is crafted from premium Italian Limonta fabric and has been fully garment dyed for loads of “memory” and a unique handfeel. Quilted insulation through the body and pure sheepskin at the hood and warm corduroy facings keep things warm and toasty. A waterproof Aquagurad zippered chest pocket, piggy-back double document pocket and ballistic webbing reinforcements demonstrate that “the truth is in the details”. A removable hood allows the Fjord to convert easily from parka to winter-trench.

SERGE BIKER -The Serge biker fuses together unique tailoring lines from the Artis sportscoat with classic minimalist motorcycle jacket styling. Anotomical contouring across the shoulders and sleeves are serge-stitched together in soft laundered lambskin.

I N S U L AT E D The insulator jacket range has also been extended featuring the substantial Puffin, the zip-up Quilter jacket and chill-beating Cheater vest. Or the hybrid fusion of using a quilted fabric on our short placket college shirt.
P U F F E R - The iconic Station jacket has entirely transformed into a winterbattling insulated puff-parka. Rugged nylon-oxford quilted all the way through is rendered even toughter with abrasionresistant panelling made from tonallymatched nylon sailcloth. The original Station’s generous set of cargo pockets, removable central epaulet-sleeve branding, reverse tape-through buttons all remain but zipped hand-stuffer pockets have also been added. The color range incudes classic blue and army green as well as a dynamic new workers-gold with brighter gold accents.

TA I L O R I N G The modern sportcoat, waistcoat and trousers are no longer considered workwear. But it wasn’t so long ago that tradesmen and laborers dressed in these types of garments - lending their work a unique everyday dignity.
BOW - The new Bow is a more sophisticated spin on workwear-inspired tailoring. A 2-button single breasted cut with a low 30cm drop, the design employs modern contoured pattern work to create a clean pre-curved sleeve.

SHIRTS S I M P L E B I A S S T R E T C H – 4 5 D E G R E E / 1 0 0 % C O T T O N The new Simple shirt represents the introduction of a revolutionary concept in stretch for men. Made using bias-cut patterns, the Simple stretches as if it contained Lycra... -but it doesn’t. The 45 degree rotation of the pattern pieces prior to cutting creates natural stretch across the fabric’s diagonal axis. The result is a new kind of basic shirt. It looks, feels and wears like 100% laundered cotton (because it is), but it stretches like a modern synthetic. In other words, it’s a stretch cotton shirt made from a natural, masculine, workwear perspective.

In 1906 Sakichi invented the circular loom in Japan. In contrast to standard looms, in which the shuttle loom moved back and forth to incorporate the weft, in the circular loom the shuttle moves in a circular motion to insert the weft; reducing energy loss; operational noise; and omitting the need for a side seam construction.

The celebration of the outerwear season reaches its crescendo in the form of this season’s limited edition Collusion double-label project. Denham has worked directly with X at the remarkable London Cloth Company in East London on a bespoke “Union Cloth” fabrication. Woven slowly on vintage looms the quality is a blend, or union, of Shetland wool and cotton colored in rich indigo dyestuff and used to produce a unique twist on the classic Crombie coat.
CROMWELL CROMBIE COAT The new Crowell is Denham’s most tailored men’s outwear style yet. Made from thick melton wool and lined in a combination of cotton calico and rich rayon-blend satin the Cromwell featuers subtle styling and a classic fit.

The concept of the H.G.A series is very simple. We reach out to exceptional creatives whose work we admire. We invite them to create a special artwork incorporating a scissor, but we insist it be done without any compromise to their own unique vision‌we then intergrate the artwork into our seasonal collection. For FW14 we asked tattoo artist Nick Kater to accurately recreate the tailormade scissor art tattoo he inked onto Berlin and 14oz legend Daniel Werner’s forearm.

SEASONAL HIGHLIGHTS The Women’s collection for Fall Winter is rich in essential layering pieces of outerwear, knits, and leathers, all made from specially selected fabrics and skins that have been thoughtfully crafted into effortless everyday cool, go-to pieces. The collection is driven by perfectly constructed styles, and autumnal colors and textures from more luxurious, soft and comfortable knits and wools, utilitarian cottons, through to high shine laminated leathers with hand finished stitch work and raw cut detailing that accent the DENHAM Women’s more rock ‘n’ roll slightly rebellious attitude. Seasonal shirting and jersey prints have been inspired by mystical reptilian deep sea creatures, and Turner’s frenzied brushstroke paintings of ships in stormy seas. Love-worn knits and leathers, redefine our bohemian edge, combined with a grunge-cool style mantra.
WINTER TEMPEST ON AN IRON COAST The inspiration for new Denham Fall Winter 14’ collection is soaked in the imagery of the dark stormy seas and wavehammered industrial coastlines. Windswept and weatherbeaten, the collection was influenced by the atmosphere of Turner’s dramatic maritime painting “Snow Storm – Steam Boat off a Harbours Mouth” as well as the dark mystery of Shakespeare’s play ‘The Tempest’. As always the attitude mixes classic work wear influences with genuine modernity. Turner’s frenzied brushstrokes and Shakespeare’s shadowy intrigue can be felt within richly textured fabrics, deeplyhued colors and submerged shine. T H E S E A S O N A L CO LO U R S TO RY Stormy sea greens and greys, ocean blues, and oily black, combine with hues of the natural world in antique creams and bone. Dark blood red is a key highlight within the Women’s collection combined with tarnished metallics and oil slick surfaces. D E N H A M T H E “ C O A T- M A K E R ” The “Jean-makers” wait patiently through the Spring and Summer to indulge their seasonal passion for Fall Winter for outerwear. Their imaginations have again been ignited by the their latest vintage discoveries, the influence of film and photography in their work, as well as their most recent research outings that have uncovered another rich trove of design ideas.
DENHAM THE JEANMAKER Category five employs a virtuoso approach to the laundry with subtle and restrained design handwriting. Like the classic Denham 5-pocket range, category five offers styles across a directional array of 4 modern fits from tight fit through slim; regular to relaxed fits– relevant updated fits for discerning jean customers. Each fit has been carefully cut and finished to represent our contemporary take on the timeless and iconic 5-pocket pattern jean. The detailing is on the inside, the soul and character are on the outside.

Denham has worked directly with Daniel Harris, the passionate weaver responsible for the remarkable London Cloth Company in East London on a bespoke “Union Cloth” fabrication.
A “Union” of Shetland wool and natural cotton the fabric has been woven slowly on vintage looms and then colored in rich indigo dyestuff.

We invite them to create a special artwork incorporating a scissor, but we insist it be done without any compromise to their own unique vision‌we then intergrate the artwork into in our seasonal collection. For FW14 we asked tattoo artist NIck Kater to accuratetly recreate the tailormade scissor art tattoo he inked onto Berlin and 14oz legend Daniel Werner’s forearm.
