A Note From Your Historian
Hi there, and welcome to January & February Newsletter!
I wanted to give a special shoutout to all of our seniors and alumni who have matched to Texas medical school (02/16) or their residency program (03/15)!
Regardless of the outcome, all of us here at the Sigma Chapter are incredibly proud of you, and we can not wait to keep up with all the amazing things you accomplish!

February
In collaboration with Sam’s Adventure Camp, we stuffed goodie bags for the runners of the Austin Marathon This was a new take on one of our classic events, but we loved it anyways!
Colon Cancer Coalition Walk
At a new event this year, we attended the Colon Cancer Coalition Walk! This was a great opportunity for us to learn about different forms of cancer, and network with healthcare professionals!
The Project
02 March
Last year, we attended The Project, a large event at UT-Austin, for the first time ever. It was a huge hit amongst our members, so of course we had to come back for more!

GUEST SPEAKERS GUEST SPEAKERS
MDs, PAs, professors, oh my!
Jasmine Khan, MD
Dr Jasmine Khan, hosted by member Kushi Kura, is a cardiologist who owns a private practice clinic She attended medical school in India where she studied for 4 1/2 years and then had an internship for 1 year before she was able to get her license to practice. Then, she made the difficult decision to move to the U.S. to pursue medicine in a place with state of the art technology. Her biggest advice to students is to not let small setbacks let you down, and to choose your friends and mentors carefully.
Danielle Murphy, PA-C
Danielle Murphy, PA-C is a Physician’s Associate practicing in cardiology As of Fall 2024, she will have been a PA for 10 years She originally went into family medicine and a med spa, but found that it wasn’t the best fit for her and has been working in cardiology ever since. She works in both the hospital and clinic environment, and finds the flexibility of the PA path to be the best for her compared to the MD route. Her biggest advice for DEM-bers is to find a path that suits you.
Pradeep Modur, MD
Dr Pradeep Modur, hosted by member Sara Modur, is a neurologist specializing in epilepsy He also reviews applications for Dell Medical School. Alongside his medical education, Dr. Modur completed his Master’s in Biomedical Engineering where he wrote a thesis on supervised, unsupervised, and deep-learning in AI. Now, he works with 1% as the population in his work in epilepsy medicine. His biggest advice to applicants is not to hyperfocus on a specialty too early, and to let the work-life balance come to you.

DAY N’ NIGHT DAY N’ NIGHT
Saturday, February 24th
At our premier social of the semester, our DEM-bers merged two different aesthetics––light and dark––for our Day n’ Night social! At the beginning of the night, our DEM-bers chose between the Day or Night social to get to spend time with each other in a more intimate setting. Then, we came together for our joint social to see all of our lovely DEMbers after a busy start from Winter Break! This was a great opportunity to say hello to all of our new ALPHA GAMMAs! We can’t wait to spend more time with them, and the rest of our amazing DEM family :)
RACETO RACETO DONATE DONATE
