IfirstheardabouttheDempseyCenterinJulyof2019. Iwaslisteningtoapodcastandtheguestonthatepisode wasPatrickDempsey.HewastalkingaboutaCenterIhad neverheardofbefore aplacecalledtheDempseyCenter. Fastforward4months,andIwaswalkingintotheCenterasanewclient. IwasdiagnosedwithbreastcancerinOctober2019,amonthaftermy30th birthdayItwasasurrealmomentthinkingbacktothatpodcastasIclimbedthe stairsformyfirstappointmentattheCenterAfterthecountlessmedical appointments,myfirstmeetingattheDempseyCenterprovidedamomentof reliefItwasthefirstpointinthatoverwhelmingandterrifyingtimeofearly diagnosiswhenIfeltlikeIcouldbreatheagain. IsaidthisinmyinterviewwiththeDempseyCenterteaminJuly,andIcannot sayitenough Idon’tknowwhatIwouldhavedonewithouttheDempsey Centerwhilegoingthroughcancertreatment.Throughtwosurgeries,three monthsofchemotherapy,fourweeksofradiationandayearlong immunotherapyinfusion,theDempseyCenterwasbymysidethewholetime, providingmewithahavenofsupport. IstartedastheCorporate&FoundationRelationsDirectorattheDempsey CenterinAugust2022,andamsogratefultogettoworkandcontributetoa placethathasmeantsomuchtheselastthreeyears.I’veworkedindevelopment andfundraisingforovertenyearsandamexcitedtohavefoundmyhomehere attheDempseyCenterandcontinuethisworkwithyouall Thankyouforallyoudotohelpprovideconnection,community,andcarefor cancerpatients,theirlovedones,andcarepartnersAsacancersurvivorand DempseyCenterclient,Icansaywithagratefulheartthatyoursupportofthe DempseyChallengedirectlyimpactedbylife,andIstandinaweofyou.
