Incorporating Movement into your looks this Fall/Winter season is as easy as 1, 2, 3! Color, Length, and Fringe!!!

Movement in clothing can be incorporated through mixing different hues of the same color together or creating MONOCHROMATIC looks!

For example:

A canary yellow top screams vibrancy and continuous movement while a mustard yellow bottom provides pace and steadiness. The pair gives an air of balance and productivity!

Movement can also be incorporated through adding items of different lengths to your look such as a long doubled breasted trench coat or an oversized scarf.

Movement too can be incorporated through accessories such as purses and earrings!

1, 2, 3 … MOVE!

MoveYour

Just as the seasons change, so do you! Movement is the base of change. To move you must be willing to depart from anything that is contrary to your projected destination. Likewise, being willing to implement daily habits that domino permanent change.

For example: If you desire to become more organized in your home, setting your purse and/or keys in one designated place will prompt memory recall, allow you to experience less stress when preparing to leave home, and initiate maintaining order in your space.

To have healthy movement you must accept a transformational mindset: old things must be left in old places and your new place cannot be offset. Life transitions often cause us to move whether it’s a physical location, mindset or gaining depth in character. No matter what you’re transitioning out of or into… MOVE!

SAVEDMY LIFE

CarshinaWashington

It wasn't the weight I needed to lose, it was the weight of carrying others!

One it dawned on me: “Carshina, you can’t save anybody!” I had finally found out how the weight piled in the first place.

Enduring trauma and stress after the birth of my son, made me realize I needed to find a way to lose weight and dance became my outlet. You wouldn't believe the weight came off that easily. Just dancing, drinking lots of water, and walking.

The physiological endurance needed for this journey was already within me. Believing that I could be disciplined in setting and achieving this goal.

Movement enhanced my life!

I am the business owner of Divine Purpose Fine Arts Center. One of our top programs is dance. Dancers come from citywide to participate in our classes. We have been in business for two years. There were ups and downs to learning to balance running a business and my weight loss journey. I endured it all and am now 100 pounds lighter physically and mentally. To this day I still enjoy teaching dance and hosting many events at Divine Purpose Fine Arts Center.

FEELING GOODIS APROCESS

Over the past decade, beauty standards defined by our culture have changed, modified, and evolved to include and exclude certain body types and genetic features. I built Get Body By K LLC as a proactive solution to eradicate beauty standards and change how women view their natural bodies. This solution starts with a selfassessment: Do you have any genetic health conditions? How active are you? How is your mental health? How are your eating patterns?

After brainstorming areas of improvement, I stress the importance of understanding the difference between looking good and feeling good. Anyone can pay for a cosmetic fix but feeling good comes from within. Working out is a proven mental and physical transformative experience, helping your body release chemicals and suppress hormones that cause stress and anxiety. While working out is a great way to meet your body goals, it is equally important to be aware about what you are eating and drinking. Even with an intense workout regimen, without clean eating, your results can become stagnant.

Now, it’s time for commitment. I encourage people to make modifications to their eating without getting rid of things that make them happy. I don’t know about you, but I LOVE sweets! Instead of ordering the cookies & crème milkshake from Chick-Fil-A, make chocolate covered strawberries to satisfy the sweet craving with less calories and processed sugars. Dieting can be temporary, but modifications can last forever. Being the healthiest version of yourself will only be possible with consistency, discipline, and support from those you love!

Becoming your own beauty standard

It seems that anytime a woman states that they don’t like a part of their body or are insecure in some aspect of their appearance, the only offer of reply anyone gives is to tell her to love herself more, and build more confidence. While that is a valid take, it’s not as easy as it seems. In a world where the size on your jeans determines how worthy of existing many people see you as, learning to love yourself despite your ability to fit In the “one size fits all” box thrown on women from Eurocentric standards of beauty is a feat in itself. So how do you even start to love the pieces of you that society tells you to hate? For me, the first step was to block out the noise and throw my middle fingers up to anyone who felt the need to comment on my body, and make me look at myself as less than in the first place.

Honestly, that was about a third of my journey. The other 2 parts were learning to love my body at each of its stages, and finding clothes that let me express myself and also my love for myself. First, your body constantly changes. The way you look today is probably not who you’ll look like a year from now, maybe not even 6 months. As women, our bodies go through so many changes, from hormones, childbirth, birth control, and stress. It’s unrealistic to believe your body will never change, but it’s even worse to continually compare yourself to past versions of you.

Page14

Now I’m not saying you can’t wish you were the weight and body type you were in High school or college, but babe, you aren’t in High school or college anymore. Speaking negatively on yourself because you don’t look like that anymore won’t make you look like that. As a plus size woman, I’ve struggled with this the most, and I’ll say it was the hardest part of my journey. But comparison is the thief of joy. Even if you’re comparing two different versions of yourself. At my “smallest” I was depressed, stressed out, and ready to quit life. Do I really want to go back to that? Lmao no.

I pulled myself out of my lowest in finding my fashion sense. I may not always be able to control the way my body changes but I can put a smile on my face and put confidence in my step if I know I look good. And if my outfit goes crazy, it makes taking on the world a little bit easier. Over the years, I’ve learned to dress my shape by honestly just standing in the mirror. What aspects do you really like about yourself? What shape does your body naturally take? Do you carry more shape in your torso? Do your hips flair out more than your bust? What styles do you feel most comfortable in? For me, I think I’m a subtle hourglass, so I’ve always felt best in clothing that hugs my shape and shows off my hips and waist. For a pear shape, you may want to really bring out your shoulders to add balance with your hips, so choosing tops and dresses that either show your shoulders like off the shoulder tops, or spaghetti straps may be what you flock to.

But don’t limit yourself! Try a lot of styles and silhouettes! Even things that you think may be unflattering to your shape. Wear whatever you want to wear. As long as you feel good and confident in them, that’s all that matters. These also don’t have to be investment pieces. While you’re trying out new styles and finding what you like and don’t like, don’t feel the need to invest in quality. The worst thing you could do while finding what styles work for you are to spend hundreds of dollars on pieces that you’ll never wear!

Page 15

Overall, just remember that self love is a marathon. It won’t look the same everyday or for everyone, but it’s so worth it. And once you start to build a love for yourself that cannot be shaken, you’ll seldom look to society for validation on your body. You are your own body goals! Your own beauty standard. Do you, be you boo. x.

Many believe that fashion is dictated by currency, however IT’S NOT! The price of an item has nothing to do with how its styled, how it makes your feel, and even the artists’ initial intention. EVERYTHING HAS A FASHION!!!

The easiest way to save money and find fashionable pieces is THRIFTY!!!!

Thrift-ing is a decade old concept that makes second-hand pieces i.e. (clothing, furniture, accessories, etc.) available to shoppers that desire cheaper prices!

UNVEILEDFOR

DELUK

It wasn't Meet Ciara Deal: first feature of DéLuk Magazine - a woman assisting other women in improving their physical appearance and metaphysical functionality as a means of purpose acceleration.

Ciara Deal, born and raised in Rockford, IL is an African American woman with spiritual roots serving in music and community development ministries of Wells Temple of Deliverance Church - Chicago, IL.

“I am an advocate within the body of Christ and the community for healing and wholeness: standing firm on faith, transparency, and authenticity. I believe there is hope for all, life’s lessons are inevitable... how we respond and react is optional,” declares Deal.

Deal has earned a Bachelor of Psychology degree and is now furthering her education pursuing a Master of Science in Psychology. Deal’s love for people and desire to see all prospering led her to become the founder of Unveiled Life Incorporated! “Unveiled is a movement designed to encourage and empower individuals, serving as a reminder to own your true beauty that first lies within,” exclaims Deal. Through creative workshops, mentorship and programs, Deal assists people in learning to be true to themselves and uncover and expel negativity present in their lives caused by past hurt and walk in their purpose.

Deal recounts her own struggle with inauthenticity, prompting the surge of Unveiled Life Incorporated, “after years of living in the shadow of fear and doubt, and struggling with finding my true identity I started to embrace my own beauty and flaws.” Deal sharing her journey, “[My] lack of self-esteem and confidence was taunting, [so] I began to utilize my voice. I began to blog as an outlet. In addition, I began to mentor and fellowship with others who shared the same struggle and testimony.

I began unveiled with W. E. B. Dubois’ “veil” concept in mind. The veil symbolized the separation—both physical and spiritual— between black people and the rest of the world. The concept describes the feeling as double standard, as one having more than one social identity, which makes it difficult to develop a sense of self.”

Deal through faith and artistic outlets gained buoyancy and is now continually sparking transformation in the lives of those that encounter Unveiled Life, Inc.,

Concerning physical appearance: Deal provides experiences to mentees such as photo shoots, makeup sessions, and virtual workout sessions. She believes fashion is art on display, one’s personal illustration of who they are, promoting diversity.

Concerning metaphysical functionality: Considering your psychological studies background, do you believe that fashion affects the cognitive perception of women? Clothes have a strong influence. The formality of clothing not only influences the way others perceive us, and how people perceive themselves. In our society there’s self-objectification which occurs when people perceive and describe their bodies as a function of appearance instead of a personal accomplishment,” expounds Deal.
