Emerge would not be possible without the generous support of the Delta Tau Delta Educational Foundation which allows us to host these events with minimal cost to chapters and members. Thank you to Educational Foundation and donors who support the work of the Fraternity.
What is the executive board’s purpose in our chapter, and what impact are we responsible for creating this semester?
What strengths does our team have and how can we intentionally use those strengths in our officer roles?
Where do we struggle as an executive board?
What systems, expectations, or support do we need to operate successfully and stay accountable as an executive board?
What is one commitment I can personally make to be a better teammate and leader on this executive board?
Each officer and administrative role drives toward the mission of the chapter and Fraternity. First, independently identify the top 3 responsibilities of your position that you deem most important. Once you have completed your top 3 responsibilities, review and decide what your own top 3 excellence-driven goals are. Discuss with your table once you are finished.
Top 3 Personal Responsibilities:
For this next activity, you need to come up with a solution toa specific scenario for your group. Drawing on your observations of other leaders, past experiences with leadership, officer transition conversations, and the resources you reviewed, you will develop a plan of action specific to your role. Identify your first tasks and responsibilities, a list of what officers/contacts you would like to work with to be successful, and a list of the resources that you would utilize in this scenario.
The Scenario:
1.
2.
Identify your first tasks and responsibilities. What tasks or responsibilities do you want to prioritize first?
Decide who you want to collaborate/work with. Who should you work with in the chapter, on campus, or at the national level to help address the scenario and be successful?
3. List out your utilized resources. What resources are you going to utilize and take advantage of to help in this scenario?
How do we make decisions?
Answer the following questions on your own:
1.) When I’m making decisions in my personal life, what values usually guide me?
2.) When I’m making decisions as an officer, what additional responsibilities or considerations should I use to shape my choices for the chapter?
3.) Before making a chapter-related decision, who should I involve or seek input from, and why?
4 ) What types of decisions can I confidently make on my own as an officer, and what types should always be communicated to or approved by the executive board?
5 ) What decisions should always be made as a full executive board, because they impact the entire chapter’s direction, culture, or standards?
Once everyone has answered, share your responses to questions 3-5 with your executive board. How do those responses compare? Are there places where your team is not in alignment with each other on decisions?
The mission of Delta Tau Delta is Committed to Lives of Excellence.
The principles of Delta Tau Delta are Truth, Courage, Faith and Power.
Truth is vital in the relationship between an organization and the outside world. If an organization cannot be trusted, it will perish. Truth begins within the organization. To truly become brothers, men must be truthful to themselves and to one another. They must hold one another accountable.
Courage takes heart Those who are courageous thrive As you navigate through life, you will be confronted with many difficult decisions. Courage helps a leader understand the best option and take it, regardless of the popularity of that choice Courage has a distinct relationship with truth One must know the truth to stand for it.
Faith is belief. Faith grows, develops and changes. It means trusting yourself and believing your actions are appropriate. Faith will help you trust decisions you make and believe that given information is correct. A lack of faith drives a wedge through organization and friendships.
Power begins as inner strength Power is a combination of talents and inherent abilities and wisdom. Through united individuals, we can do so much more as a brotherhood than we can alone. The power of an organization, when combined with courage, faith, and truth, leads us into the future and ensures success.
The five value statements of Delta Tau Delta are:
Integrity is Essential: Integrity means doing what you say you will do. Integrity establishes credibility for yourself and the Fraternity and having it means others can trust you, believe you, and count on you.
Accountability is Fundamental to all Commitments: Accountability means holding to your promises, making you responsible for both your words and your actions.
Lifelong Learning and Growth are Vital: There is no status quo in the pursuit of excellence – you are either moving ahead through continuous growth and learning or going backward and slowly narrowing your choices and opportunities in life. There is no point in today’s world where one can afford to stop learning and growing.
Strengthening Community is Essential to our Vitality: The pursuit of a life of excellence must occur through constant interaction with many different communities Therefore, a strong community is vital for your future, as well as the Fraternity’s.
Brotherhood Sustains Us: Delta Tau Delta is an organization that relies on Brotherhood to hold us together. Brotherhood involves individual responsibility to oneself and to others.
Your chapter’s main topic/issue (that you want feedback on):
What are you already doing as officers to address it?
What Delt values or principles are impacted by this issue?
Where do you need additional support from? Advisors? Campus? The Central Office?
What should each executive board member do in this scenario?
What are your chapter’s greatest strengths?

What are your chapter’s opportunities for improvement?
Where is your chapter’s biggest potential?
What are current threats to our chapter, preventing us from being successful?
What are four priority areas your executive board can focus on this year? 1.) 2.) 3.) 4.)
Based on what you have discussed today, set some goals for the rest of the semester or year. If your entire executive board is not present, plan to discuss these goals at your next executive board meeting and finalize your goals as a group. Once you have finalized your goals, share them with your advisory team and your leadership consultant so they can help you accomplish them.
What are goals that can help my chapter succeed in each area?

What resources are available to help your chapter?
Now that your chapter has discussed goals for the semester/year, take a few moments to think about what you can do to help achieve those goals. If a goal was specific to your position in the chapter, brainstorm what you can do to move that goal forward. Even if you do not have direct responsibilities for a goal, think about things that you can do to support the chapter and your brothers in achieving those goals.
