Thief smashes truck window to get mail South Delta Crime Beat

The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in South Delta and other files of interest. If you see anything occurring that you believe to be suspicious, call 911 for inprogress crimes and emergencies or 604-946-4411 for other assistance. The following are some of the calls the Delta police responded to in the previous week:

TSAWWASSEN

• Jan. 3, 3 p.m., 400block of English Bluff Road: School liaison officer reported a student’s bicycle had just been stolen from the bike rack. A young teen male was observed riding the bike away from the school. The bike is described as a Haro Downtown model BMX style with green tires. Bike later recovered and returned to owner. • Jan. 5, 1:30 p.m., 1300-block of Beach Grove Road: Complainant reported observing a male smash the driver’s side window of a Canada Post truck and steal a tray of mail/packages. Suspect fled the scene in a dark coloured vehicle. • Jan. 5, 4:36 p.m., 1300-block of 56th Street: Complainant reported that while they were shopping someone keyed graffiti into the right fender of their truck, causing approximately $1,000 in damage. • Jan. 5, 5:02 p.m., 1900-block of 56th Street: Complainant reported

the theft of four tires from their van left in the parking lot. Lug nuts from tires found at the scene. A battery also stolen from a nearby trailer. • Jan. 6, 6 a.m., 500block of Centennial Parkway: Report received from complainant that someone smashed their vehicle window and gained entry to their garage with the garage door opener from the vehicle. Items stolen include tools and the garage door opener. Garage to be manually locked until opener replaced. • Jan. 8, 9:21 p.m., 200block of Copsefield Drive: Complainant reported their unlocked vehicle parked in the driveway was entered and rummaged throughout. Items stolen include sunglasses and a flashlight. • Jan. 8, 8:51 p.m., 1100-block of 55th Street: Complainant reported the theft of their bicycle from their condo storage locker sometime over the past several days. Suspects unscrewed the hinges on the wooden door to gain entry to the locker. The bike is described as a gray 2017 Cannondale Slate hybrid.

Unknown suspect(s) broke into the building by pulling boards from a doorway sometime over the past several days. Suspect(s) stole various tools, including a Titan paint sprayer, DeWalt batteries and chargers, extension cords and a yellow string of lights. • Jan. 6, 3:58 p.m., 5200block of Ladner Trunk Road: A business reported that sometime over the past several days a male selected a computer and left the store without paying. The computer is described as a Certify Data PC worth approximately $800. • Jan. 7, 2:35 p.m., Maple Crescent and 44th Avenue: A citizen found a Samsung Galaxy cell phone and brought it into police headquarters. Owner can claim on identification at headquarters, 4455 Clarence Taylor Crescent. • Jan. 7, 11:57 a.m., 4900-block of 58B Street: Report from complainant of the theft of the rear license plate from their vehicle while parked in the area. • Jan. 8, 3:48 p.m., 4800block of 47th Avenue: Complainant reported the theft of the rear license plate from their vehicle while parked in the area sometime over the past several days. • Jan. 8, 1 a.m., 4800block of 57th Street: Complainant heard banging and when they looked outside they saw a male breaking into the complex mailboxes. When the complainant yelled, the suspect fled the scene in a dark coloured SUV with two other males. Mail stolen from most boxes and any remaining mail seized for safekeeping.

• Jan. 3, 4:07 p.m., 4800block of Delta Street: A business reported the theft of a heater valued at $72. Two witnesses observed the theft and the suspect flee the business. A witness recognized the suspect and provided this information to the business which resolved the matter through civil processes. • Jan. 3, 1:10 a.m., 4800block of Delta Street:
