Historical Sketch

DeloneCatholicHighSchoolisaregionalhighschoolnamedforCharlesJ.Delone,Esq.,aprominentCatholic attorneyofHanover,whodonatedthelandandthefundsfortheconstructionoftheoriginalbuilding Thefacilities thathadbeentheeducationcenterforelementaryandhighschoolweredestroyedbyfirein1938whichprecipitated Mr.Delone'sgenerousdonation. Thecornerstoneofthenewschoolwaslaidin1939andthenewbuildingwas dedicatedbyArchbishopAmletoGiovanniCicognanni,ApostolicDelegatetotheUnitedStates,onSept2,1940. As atributetoMr.Delone,theschoolbearshisnameanditsathleticteamshaveadoptedhistitle"Squires"and "Squirettes"

FatherCyrilJ AllweinwasappointedthefirstPrincipalofDeloneCatholicHighSchool TheSistersofSaintJoseph werejoinedonthefacultybytheSistersofMercyand,in1941,bytheSistersofChristianCharity.

In1952thehighschoolwasaccreditedbytheMiddleStatesAssociationunderthedirectionofFatherWilliamR. Lyons,Principal1948-1977. Twoadditionalwingswereaddedtotheoriginalbuildingin1955andin1963. Achapel, bearingthetitle,"OurLady,QueenofPeace,"wasconstructedin1966 Thechapelwasmovedin2007andrenovated throughagiftfromtheestateofDonaldWandMaryE Small The1963ScienceandMathwingwasrenovatedinthe summerof2011.TheLawrenceB.(Sonny)Sheppard,Jr.Memorial,agymnasiumcomplex,thegiftofMr.andMrs.L. B.Sheppardinmemoryoftheirson,wasbuiltin1968. The1940buildingreceivedacompleterenovationinthe summerof2013andthe1955wing,library,cafeteria,bandroomandoldgymwererenovatedin2016and2017.

DeloneCatholicHighSchoolcontinuestoservetheyouthofparishesinHanover,McSherrystown,Littlestown, SpringGrove,Abbottstown,NewOxford,Bonneauville,Gettysburg,Fairfield,Westminster,Emmitsburg, Reisterstown,TaneytownandGlyndonaswellasnon-CatholicsfromtheAdams/Hanoverareaandnorthern Maryland. TherearealsointernationalstudentsenrolledatDeloneCatholic.

TheCatholicChurchandthisCatholicSchoolrecognizeparentsastheprimaryeducatorsoftheirchildren;the educationofstudentsisapartnershipbetweenparentsandtheschool Ourschooliscommittedtoprovidingan environmentthateducates,nurturesandsupportsstudentsaccordingtothebasicChristianprinciples.Everyone involvedinthedevelopmentofchildrenandyouth parents/guardians,teachers,theschool’sleadership,familyand friends isexpectedtobehaveinaccordancewiththeseprinciples.

Admission Policy

1. Studentspromotedfromanaccredited8th-gradeprogramareeligibleforadmission.

b. Returningstudentsmustrenewtheirenrollmentannuallyusingtheprovidedonlineform.

c. Adecisionwillbecommunicatedbasedonthelikelihoodofthestudent’ssuccessatDeloneCatholic.

d. Allrequireddocumentationisduewithin3daysoftheenrollmentdate.

3. EnteringfreshmenareencouragedtotaketheStarTestorHighSchoolPlacementTestforEnglishandMath placement,alongsideelementarygradesandrecommendations

4 Admissionisopentoallstudentsregardlessofsex,disability,race,color,religion,ornationalorigin,given:

a. Theschoolcanmeeteducationalneedsandhasspace.

b. Parents’consenttofeesandtuitionpayments.

c. Allstudentsmusttakereligionclassesandattendrelatedfunctions.

TheregistrationprocessofDeloneCatholicHighSchoolincludesapastor'srecommendation Thepastor's recommendationplacesthestudentwithintheparishofrecordforpaymentanddistributionofinformationincluding reportcards. Inthecaseofachangeinresidencyduetoamoveorduetothechangeincustodialparent,anewpastor's recommendationofthestudentmustberequestedusingtheformprovidedbyDeloneCatholicHighSchool. This formistobecompletedbythepastorofthenewparish Thepastorisrequestedtodocumentinwritingtheregistered statusofthefamilyasparishioners. Theformerpastorisrequestedtodocumentthewithdrawalstatusofthefamilyas parishioners. Changeofparishstatuswilloccurwhenallnecessarydocumentationisreceived. Student Withdrawal Policy

UnderPennsylvanialaw,allchildrenofcompulsoryschoolage(uptoage17)mustattendaschoolthatmeetsstate educationstandards,whichDeloneCatholicHighSchooldoes.Towithdrawbeforeage17,permissionfromlocal publicschoolauthoritiesisrequired.

IfastudentortheirparentswishtowithdrawfromDeloneCatholicHighSchool,theymustreporttotheDirectorof Admissions.Acounselorwilldiscussthereasonsforwithdrawalandexplorealternatives.Afterthis,theschool's leadershipwillbeinformed

Student Visitors Policy

TheDirectorofAdmissionsandOutreachcoordinatesclassvisitationsforstudentsfrompartnermiddleschools. IndividualvisitsfornewortransferringstudentsarealsoarrangedbytheDirectorofAdmissions.

Tuition and Payment Policies

Tuition Policy

DeloneCatholicHighSchoolchargestuitionsetyearlybytheBoardofDirectors.Studentsbecomeregisteredupon completingformsandpayingthenon-refundableregistrationfeewhichcountersasadeposittowardstuition.

Liabilityfortuitionbeginsuponreceivingtheclassschedule.Withdrawalduringthefirstsemesterincursliabilityfor onesemester'stuition,whilewithdrawalinthesecondsemesterincursliabilityfortheentireyear'stuition.Parents shouldmakethedecisiontoattendthoughtfully,asfinancialobligationsremainregardlessofwithdrawal Hardship casescanbeappealedtotheDirectorofAdmissions.

Tuition Payments

Tuitiondoesnotcoverthefullcostofeducation;familiesreceiveassistancethroughparishsubsidies.Paymentplansare available,andallpaymentsmustbecompletedbytheendofApril.Earlypaymentsareencouraged,andanychangesto thepaymentplanrequireparentalrequestandFinanceCommitteeapproval

Disciplinary Code of Conduct

DeloneCatholicisdedicatedtodevelopingwell-roundedChristianyoungmenandwomenwhoembodyChrist's teachingsofloveandlaw.Weprovideasafe,inclusiveenvironmentprioritizingstudentwelfare.

StudentsrepresentingDeloneCatholicdisplayunwaveringschoolspiritandmaintaintheintegrityofourinstitution, bothonandoff-campus.Ourmotto,"EstoteFactoresVerbi"–"BeDoersoftheWord"–emphasizestheimportanceof genuinecommitmentbeyondbasiccompliance

Continuedenrollmentdependsonproperconduct,whichisexpectedonschoolgroundsandwithinthecommunity Misconduct,evenoff-campus,canleadtoexpulsion.Inappropriatebehaviortowardsstafforatschooleventswillalso beaddressedseriously.

Anyseriousallegationsoutsideschoolmayresultinhomestudyuntilresolved.Allstudentsmustmaintainbehavior standardsatschool-sponsoredeventstoavoiddisciplinaryaction.

StudentsaresubjecttoMcSherrystown'sOrdinance1996-4,withfinesfornoncompliance.DeloneCatholicmaytake actionforillegalorinappropriateactivitiesonschoolproperty,includinginspectionsofpersonalitemswhen warranted.

Discipline Code

Adisciplinenoticewillbeissuedtostudentswhoarefoundtohavecommittedaminorormajorviolationofschool rules.Onlyteachers,staff,andschoolleadershiphavetheauthoritytoissuetheseinfractions.Followinganinfraction, theschoolleadershipwilldeterminetheappropriateactionasspecifiedintheTableofInfractions Forserious infractionsrequiringreferraltotheschoolleadership,notificationswillbeissuedassoonasfeasible

Private Detention

Teachershavethediscretiontoassignprivatedetentionsforspecificbehavioraloracademicoffenses.Thelengthof thesedetentionsisnottoexceed30minutes

General Detention

Generaldetentionswilltakeplacefor1hourimmediatelyaftertheregulardismissaltimeonWednesday’stypically from2:50p.m.to3:50p.m.

Studentsareexpectedtoattenddetentionasittakesprecedenceoverallotherschoolresponsibilities, employmentandextracurricularactivities.

● Requestsforexceptionsmustbesubmittedinwritingbyaparentorguardianinadvance Therewillbeonly one“dayofgrace”grantedperacademicyeartoeachstudenttorescheduleadetention.

○ Studentsarestronglyadvisedtoavoidbehaviorsthatcouldjeopardizetheircommitments.

1. InitiationofPlan|Whenastudentfacespotentialexpulsionduetobehavioralissues,ameetingwillbe scheduledinvolvingthestudent,theirparentsorguardians,anddesignatedschoolleadership.

Academic Attendance Policy for Extracurricular Activities & Athletics

Studentsmustmeetthefollowingattendancerequirementstoparticipateinactivities:

After School Supervision Policy

Afterschool,thelobbywillbesupervisedbyschoolstaff Thesestaffmembersareresponsibleforoverseeingall studentspresentinthelobbyarea.Studentswaitingforextracurricularactivitiesorathleticeventsmustadheretothe followingrules:

Student Failures and Extracurricular Involvement

Inordertoparticipateinanextracurricularactivityprogram,inanyonequarter,astudentmaynotbefailingtwoor morecourses FailurelistsarecompletedeachThursdaybyteachersandstudentswillbeinformedoftheirineligibility nolaterthanFridayviaemail. Ifastudentappearsontheineligibilitylistforaperiodof3weeksconsecutively,he/she maybedismissedfromtheactivityatthediscretionofthecoachand/ormoderator.

c. Studentspectatorsrepresenttheschooljustasathletesdo.

d. Spectatorswhoconsistentlyshowpoorsportsmanshipmaybeaskedtorefrainfromattendingfuture events.

e Alldecisionsmadebyofficialsmustberespected,eveniftheyseemunjust

Athletic Behavior Policy

Allathletes,coaches,andsupportersareexpectedtoadheretothefollowingbehavioralexpectations:

RespectforOthers|Allparticipantsmustshowrespecttowardscoaches,teammates,referees,andopponents. Disrespectfulbehavior,includingbutnotlimitedto,taunting,arguing,derogatoryremarksorusinginappropriate language,willnotbetolerated.

PositiveSupport|Spectatorsandsupportstaffshoulddemonstratepositivityduringevents.Negativecommentsor behaviordirectedatofficialsoropposingteamswillnotbeaccepted.

ConsequencesforBadBehavior

Intheeventofaviolationofthispolicy,thefollowingconsequenceswillbeimplemented:

● FirstOffense|Averbalwarningwillbeissuedbythecoachoreventsupervisor.

● SecondOffense|Theindividualwillbeaskedtoleavetheeventorpracticeandmayfacesuspensionfrom futuregamesorpractices

Code of Conduct and Policy on Drugs, Alcohol, and Performance Enhancing Drugs

ProhibitionAgainstDrugs,Alcohol,andTobacco

Wemaintainastrictpolicyregardingthepossession,use,anddistributionofsubstancesthatcanharmourcommunity andindividualstudents Allstudentsareexplicitlyprohibitedfromthefollowing:

● Possession,use,ordistributionofalcohol,tobacco,illegaldrugs,andrelatedparaphernalia

● Possession,use,ordistributionofprescriptionmedicationsinamannerinconsistentwiththedirectives providedbytheprescribingphysician.

Sanctions for Violations

Anyverifiedviolationsofthispolicywillinvokethefollowingsanctions,whichareinadditiontoanyotherrelevant rulesoutlinedintheStudentHandbookandDiocesanPolicy.

Use/PossessionofAlcohol,Drugs,orParaphernalia

● FirstOffense|Thestudentwillfaceanimmediatesuspensionfromparticipationinallathleticactivitiesand competitionsforaperiodoffourteen(14)calendardays.

● SecondOffense|Asuspensionfromallathleticactivitiesforsixty(60)dayswillbeenforced,commencing fromthedateoftheoffense

● ThirdOffense|Therewillbeatotalprohibitionfromallathleticactivitiesforonecalendaryearfromthedate oftheoffense,unlessthestudenthasbeenexpelledfromtheschool.

StudentAssistanceProgram(SAP)

Inconjunctionwiththesanctionsmentionedabove,anystudentfoundviolatingthispolicyisrequiredto engageintheStudentAssistanceProgram(SAP)andadheretoanytreatmentrecommendationsprovided Non-compliancewiththeevaluator'srecommendationswillresultinthestudentbeingbarredfromallathletic activitiesuntilcomplianceisachieved.

DistributionofAlcohol,Drugs,orParaphernalia(ifnotexpelled)

● FirstOffense|Thestudentwillfaceasuspensionfromallathleticactivitiesforone(1)calendaryearfromthe dateoftheoffense.

● MandatoryReporting|Theprincipalisrequiredtoreportallinstancesofstudentsdistributingalcoholor drugstolawenforcementorappropriateauthorities.

3 Ifcredible,aninformalmeeting/hearingwillbeheldwiththestudentandparentstodiscussthesituation, allowingthestudenttorespondbeforeadecisiononsuspensionismade.

4. Parents/guardianswillreceivewrittennotificationifastudentissuspendedduetoaviolationofthispolicy.

5. Ifparentschoosetoappeal,thematterwillbereviewedbythebuildingprincipal,DeanofStudentsandthe DirectorofAthletics,withthesuspensionremainingineffectduringtheappealprocess Theappealboardwill assesstheinitialdecisionbasedonverifiedinformation.

ChromebookcomputersarethepropertyofDeloneCatholicHighSchool.Studentsdonothaveownership,interest, orrighttotitleintheChromebookcomputersuntilfurthernoticefromDeloneCatholicHighSchool Ownershipof theChromebookwilltransfertothestudentupontheirgraduationfromDeloneCatholicHighSchool.

DeloneCatholicHighSchoolholdstheexclusivelicenseforthesoftwareincludedwiththeChromebooks.Students areprohibitedfromcopying,modifying,merging,ordistributingthesoftware,includinganywrittendocumentation. Studentsmustadheretoallhardware,software,andserviceproviderlicensingagreements,termsofuse,andthe applicablestateandfederalcopyrightlaws Violationsofanysuchagreementsorlawswillbeconsideredabreachofthis policy.

General Care Procedures

StudentsareexpectedtotreattheirChromebookswithcareandrespect.WhiletheyarethepropertyofDelone CatholicHighSchool,studentsshouldensuretheyarekeptcleanandfreeofmarksatalltimes.Ifdamageoccurs,the studentwillberesponsibleforthecostofrepairs WhentransportingtheirChromebooktoandfromschool,students shouldsecureitinaprotectivecase,suchasalaptopbackpackorsleeve Chromebooksshouldbesafeguardedagainst extremetemperatures.Theymustneverbeleftinacar,eveniflocked,asheatcancausedamage. Noitemsshouldever beplacedontopoftheChromebook,includingbooks,musicalinstruments,orsportsequipment. Studentsshould exercisecarewhilepluggingintheirpowercordstoavoidtripping,whichcouldresultindamagethatmustbepaidfor bythestudent AnyinstanceofinappropriateorcarelessChromebookuseshouldbereportedimmediatelytoa teacherorschoolstaffmember.Powercordsaredelicateandshouldbemanagedwithcare.Theyshouldnotdangle freely,andcautionmustbetakenwhilenavigatingaroundplugged-incords.

DeloneCatholicHighSchoolreservestherighttomonitororaccessthestorageofitsChromebookcomputersforany reasoninaccordancewiththelaw ThisrighttomonitorincludesbutisnotlimitedtocircumstanceswhereDelone CatholicHighSchoolsuspectsorisadvisedofpossiblebreachesofsecurity,harassment,orotherviolationsofother schoolpolicies,rules,regulations,directives,orlaw,orevidenceexistswhichdemonstratestotheschoolthatitslaptop computersmaycontaininformation,data,orotherintellectualpropertythatbelongstoanotherperson.All communicationsandinformationtransmittedby,receivedfrom,storedwithin,orthatpassesthroughDelone CatholicHighSchool’sfacilitiesmaybearchived,deleted,monitoredandreviewedforcontentorusageatanytimeby DeloneCatholicHighSchool.Studentsdonothavearighttopersonalorconfidentialelectronicinformationor communicationsthatareexemptfromthisguide.DeloneCatholicHighSchoolalsoreservestherighttoinvestigate suspectedinappropriateusesofitsresourcesorsystemsusingitsresources

At-Home Use

StudentsareencouragedtousetheirChromebooksathomeforcompletinghomework,conductingschool-related research,andworkingonschoolprojects.Connectingtohomeinternetandprintersforthesepurposesispermitted.

Daily Requirements and Expectations for Use

● StudentsareexpectedtotaketheirChromebookshomedailyandreturnthemtoschoolwithafullbattery

● Becauseoftheirdelicatenature,Chromebooksmustbeusedonlyonstablesurfaces,suchasadeskortable,to avoiddamagefromdrops.

● TeacherswillprovideguidanceonwhetherChromebooksshouldbeopenedorclosedduringeachclass.

Ifastudent-issuedChromebookisdamagedormalfunctionsduringschoolhours,thestudentmustbringthedeviceto theTechnologyOfficeforassistance.

Shouldrepairsbenecessary,studentsmaybeprovidedwithaloanerChromebooktousethroughouttheschoolday, whichmustbereturnedattheendoftheschoolday.Ifastudent’sdeviceneedshardwarerepairorreplacement,the studentwillberesponsiblefortheassociatedcosts.IntheeventofalostChromebook,itisessentialtonotifythe DirectorofTechnologyimmediately

Incasesoflossortheft,studentsandtheirparentsorguardiansmustinformtheschoolrightaway Fortheftthat occursoutsideofschool,familiesshouldfileapolicereportand,ifapplicable,initiateaclaimwiththeirhomeowner’s orrenter’sinsurance.Awrittensummaryoftheincidentmayberequestedforinsurancepurposes.Iftheftoccurs withintheschool,itiscrucialtoinformastaffmemberassoonaspossible.

Student Email Accounts

DeloneCatholicHighSchoolwillprovideeachstudentaschool-managedemailaccountinthedelonecatholicorg domain.Theseaccountsaretobeusedforeducationalpurposesonlyandmustbeusedinaccordancewiththe guidelinesstatedinthisPolicy.Allcorrespondencewiththeseaccountsisarchivedandreviewedbyschoolleadership. Anyimproperuseofaschoolmanagedemailaccountissubjecttothesanctionsbelow.

Disciplinary Measures

Theschoolcommunicateswithfamiliesthroughvariousmeans,mostcommonlyemailandtext,thecalendaronthe schoolwebsite,theFamilyHubonwww.delonecatholic.org,thePlusPortal,emailnewsletters,andtheMyDCHS mobileapp.Parentsareencouragedtocommunicatewithteachersandschoolleadership.Ifthereisaconcernwiththe teacher/coach,resolutionshouldbesoughtdirectlywiththatindividualbeforeinvolvingthatperson’ssupervisoror theschoolleadership Ifsatisfactoryresolutionisnotreached,parentsshouldcontacttheDepartmentChair/Director ofAthleticsasapplicable,followedbytheschoolleadershipwhennecessary.Parentscanreachtheschoolat 717-637-5969.
