Bringing Academic Medicine to Austin
A Proposal for Kay and Jim Broaddus
SEPTEMBER 2025

The University of Texas Medical Center
Defining the Future of Health
Thanks to the generosity of leaders like you, UT Austin has been redefining what’s possible since 1883 Today, we stand at another historic threshold: the creation of The University of Texas Medical Center an unprecedented opportunity to transform Austin into a destination for world-class specialty care.
Austin has been the largest U S city without an academic medical center, despite being home to a Tier 1 research university and one of the fastestgrowing innovation hubs in the nation. As many as 1 in 4 Central Texans leave the region for complex medical care, unable to get the care they need at home. For those who can’t afford the travel and time off work, such care is simply inaccessible Now, that changes
The emerging UT Medical Center unites UT Austin and Dell Medical School with MD Anderson the nation’s No. 1 cancer center in a joint medical complex Anchored by Dell Med, it will include a state-of-the-art UT Austin hospital designed to address the most complex and serious conditions and a major new clinical and research presence from MD Anderson. This visionary campus will set a new standard for care, education and discovery, powered by the unmatched capabilities of a world-leading public research university
Kay and Jim, you have seen firsthand the promise of academic medicine in Austin: integrated, team-based care that considers the whole person. The care you experienced from Drs. John Wickman and Kevin Bozic at Dell Med’s Musculoskeletal Institute exemplifies the caliber of physician-leaders we need more of doctors who combine outstanding clinical skill with the ability to innovate and advance their fields.
Why Faculty Recruitment Matters Most Now
The success of UT Medical Center depends on attracting more physicianscientists like Drs Wickman and Bozic exceptional clinicians who also lead research that shapes the future of care. These leaders bridge the gap between discovery and treatment, bringing bold science directly to the bedside and informing that science with real patient experiences. It is this virtuous cycle that accelerates cures, improves outcomes, and changes lives
Recruitment is our greatest lever for rapid impact Every faculty leader we bring to Austin immediately expands access to complex, lifesaving care for Central Texans They elevate our reputation, attract further talent, and anchor programs that will serve generations.

Your Opportunity To Transform Health In Central Texas
We invite you to help shape the health system that the future requires and that Austin deserves. We respectfully ask you to consider a blended gift of $100,000 in current-use funding to support nearterm recruitment, along with an estate commitment of $1 million to ensure lasting impact.
Your current-use gift will allow us to bring the next generation of physician-leaders to Austin without delay Your estate gift will continue that momentum, sustaining the faculty excellence that defines world-class care. Further, an estate gift of $1 million will establish the Kay and Jim Broaddus Fund for Recruitment and Retention at UT Medical Center.
Years from now, people will look back at the leaders who transformed Austin into a premier destination for health. We hope your names will be among them remembered not only for strengthening our city’s economy and culture but for advancing the one thing that unites us all: health.
Thank you for your consideration.
