On behalf of ABTA, it is my pleasure to welcome our members, Partners, travel journalists and the wider industry to Costa Navarino in Messinia.
I would like to thank our destination hosts, the Greek National Tourism Organisation (GNTO) and Costa Navarino for their warm welcome and for supporting the event in many different ways; from hosting our refreshment breaks and lunches, to our welcome and host parties, and much more besides.
I would also like to thank our Lead Partner, easyJet holidays; our Headline Partners, Global and Intrepid Travel; our Trade Media Partner, Travel Weekly, and all the other organisations that have contributed towards the success of this year’s event through sponsorships and advertising.
This year’s business session theme, Shaping our future, will tackle the opportunities and challenges facing our industry leaders as they look towards 2025 and beyond, examining some of the major shifts that are transforming our world and understanding the implications for travel. Through the engaging presentations and discussions, we aim to shape an industry that leads with purpose and drives meaningful progress.
Costa Navarino has evolved significantly since it last hosted our Convention nearly a decade ago, with a new resort comprising the W Costa Navarino, Mandarin Oriental and the Navarino Agora marketplace, located just 15 minutes’ drive from Navarino Dunes. The two resorts continue to demonstrate the organisation’s commitment to sustainable tourism, and I look forward to hearing more about their future ambitions during the event.
Lastly, please do explore Messinia during your stay. The region offers incredible golden sand beaches, olive groves, vineyards, picturesque villages, historic castles and there are some wonderful walks, running routes and other sporting activities within Navarino Dunes for you to enjoy during your free time.
I wish you all an inspiring stay in Greece and look forward to seeing you over the next few days.
Mark Tanzer Chief Executive ABTA
Lead partner Trade media partner
Headline partners
It is with great delight that I welcome delegates of the ABTA Convention 2024 to the Peloponnese, where myth and history intertwine amidst the stunning landscapes of Messinia. The travel landscape has shifted significantly since we last hosted The Travel Convention in 2015, yet the timeless allure of this region remains.
In Messinia, every moment offers an opportunity to explore breathtaking landscapes and connect with local communities. Discover how history meets contemporary culture at the medieval sites of Methoni and Koroni, the remarkably preserved Mycenaean Palace of Nestor, and Kalamata’s vibrant International Dance Festival.
Our local communities are the guardians of the area’s cultural heritage and warm hospitality. As you savour the local cuisine, delight in traditional craftsmanship, and engage with regional customs, you will gain a deeper appreciation for the charm of Messinia.
Sustainable practices and preservation initiatives are not only at the local community’s core but also at the heart of our tourism strategy. Costa Navarino, as our co-host resort, exemplifies this dedication to responsible tourism, aligning perfectly with our national tourism goals. The resort’s ongoing partnerships with local communities ensure that tourism benefits are shared widely, fostering economic growth and cultural preservation.
In between business sessions and networking opportunities, I encourage you to immerse yourselves in authentic local experiences and the natural beauty that surrounds us.
Join us in shaping a future where tourism nurtures both the environment and local communities and discover why Messinia and Greece continue to captivate travellers from around the world.
Olga Kefalogianni Minister of Tourism
It is with great pride and pleasure that we once again extend a warm welcome to the delegates of ABTA’s Travel Convention at Costa Navarino. At the heart of everything we do is our unwavering commitment to promoting and preserving both the natural environment and the rich cultural heritage of this region.
This year marks an exciting period of growth for Costa Navarino, as we are in full operation with four world-class resorts: The Romanos, a Luxury Collection Resort, The Westin Resort Costa Navarino, W Costa Navarino and Mandarin Oriental, Costa Navarino. With four signature golf courses, the vibrant Navarino Agora marketplace, our Costa Navarino Residences, and an expansive array of sports and authentic experiences, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
We are deeply honored that ABTA has once again chosen Greece, and more specifically Messinia and Costa Navarino, as the host destination for the Travel Convention.
During your stay, we invite you to explore the unspoiled beauty, rich heritage, and diverse offerings that define this extraordinary destination.
We wish you an enriching and memorable time here.
