Paintball Paradise ABOUT US:

PAINTBALL

• Paintball Paradise Prince Albert started in 1994. We have four playing fields, with spectator viewing on two of them. We have a beautiful staging area with 10 to 12 picnic tables under tin shelters, and a large fire pit.

• In 2012, we added outdoor laser tag.

• We have a wonderful BBQ kitchen and can provide catering services for those who want more than just hot dogs.

• Mobile laser tag, where we can come to your event or function, was added in 2013.

• 2013 was a busy year with a haunted corn maze and pumpkin picking patch being added.

• The corn maze will open in late August and pumpkins will be ready in mid- to late-September.

• The haunted corn maze will be open in the evenings during October.

• For the science enthusiasts, we have a large solar-panel array and several smaller solar-powered items, perfect for anyone wanting to learn about solar energy.

And of course, for 10 years old and up we have PAINTBALL, PAINTBALL, PAINTBALL. • Again, we have a number of fields we can play on, accommodating small, medium, and large teams of up to 50 players at one time!

• We can even accommodate several different groups at the same time on their OWN playing fields!

• We have trained, certified referees, and player rules are strictly monitored to ensure everyone has a safe and fun time.

• We have hosted for hundreds of thousands of players and scored many tournaments. We have the experience to make sure YOU have the FUN!

MOBILE & PARK LASER TAG For ages five and up, we can bring mobile laser tag to you!

Basic mobile package includes: • Six laser taggers.

• Six inflatable bunkers.

• We come to your place and set up the area for play, and include 90 minutes of supervised time.

• If you have more than six players, they can easily take turns, or we can bring more taggers (up to 26 total).

• Additional inflatable bunkers are available for larger areas. We can set up in school gyms, or outside on grassy areas.

• Or play laser tag at Paintball Paradise. We have a number of playing fields to rotate through and around the farm yard, like the bin field, small field, big field, and the call of duty field.

The Souris Valley Museum The Souris Valley Museum’s Collection includes the Schneller Schoolhouse, a cook car, a homesteader shack, two of Estevan’s earliest fire trucks, and an outdoor Heritage Mining Equipment display. The Museum’s displays are designed to recreate shops, businesses and the rooms of a house.

The Museum provides educational programming and community events, including summer day camps, public events, school visits, and workshops.

The Souris Valley Museum is open every day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Victoria Day Weekend until the end of September.

Additional hours and special event bookings are available upon notified request.

The Souris Valley Museum is located on Highway #39 West, just outside Estevan, beside the Visitor Information Centre (look for the Heritage Mining Equipment display).

Discover Your Heritage Inside Our House Government House is the perfect spot for teachers who want their students to learn about Saskatchewan’s past through engaging programs.

Teachers: tour the historic Amédée Forget Museum, where students will experience a glimpse of life at Government House during the turn of the 20th century.

Students can dress up in Victorian clothing inside the J.E.N. Wiebe Interpretive Centre. Snap a picture with your phone and share it with us on Facebook (Facebook.com/governmenthouse) or Twitter (@Govt_House).

Wander through the Queen Elizabeth II Art Gallery, which has showcased everything from quilts to oil paintings. Explore our feature exhibit, Jewels of the Crown: Women of Government House, located at the front entrance of Government House, which highlights the important contributions women have made to Government House.

Students aged two to seven can play in our Once Upon a Time Room. The room is filled with books, toys, games and activity stations to keep students engaged. Younger guests love looking for Jocko, our stuffed Capuchin monkey, in the Amédée Forget Museum.

Don’t forget to find him before you leave!

In the spring and early fall, stroll through our Edwardian Gardens – beautifully landscaped with lilies, irises and roses. Or try geocaching, a modern-day treasure hunt activity using GPS devices. Maps and clues in hand, teams will learn about the importance of the gardens’ historical landmarks. If it’s too cool to head outside, teachers and students can participate in fact-finding scavenger hunts indoors.

Government House embraces the Christmas season. Every winter, we deck the halls – trim the Christmas trees, hang the mistletoe and put poinsettias on display! It’s a wonderful time of year to visit. We even offer Christmas-themed education programs from the middle of November until the end of December.

Government House, located at 4607 Dewdney Avenue, is open six days a week for most of the year – from Tuesday until Sunday, 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., Labour Day until Victoria Day. During the summer months, Government House is open seven days a week from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Tours are offered in both English and French. Admission and all programs are free of charge. Complimentary Wi-Fi is available on-site.

Come and explore the stories, photographs and maps of the Settlement of Southern Saskatchewan on the main floor, and the rotating exhibits in the lower level of the restored 1912 church building. See the pioneer schoolroom in the 1926 two-room country school that is currently undergoing restoration.

Discover our “Museum in a Suitcase” outreach program, suitable for grades two to six. The cases are available for loan for a nominal fee. Former exhibitions have been condensed into a scrapbook format and include tactile objects and activity sheets to provide an interesting and enjoyable school project. “Reading, Writing and ‘Rithemetic” and “Simple Fun” tells the story of the adventure of pioneer school days. “The Story of Grain” speaks of the history of farming and the growing of crops in Saskatchewan from the early days of the pioneers to the present.

T.rex Discovery Centre

The Royal Saskatchewan Museum (RSM) offers educational programs for students of all ages – from pre-Kindergarten up until Grade 12.

The T.rex Discovery Centre in Eastend is just the place for students and teachers who are wild about dinosaurs.

Starting in January 2015, teachers will be able to experience the RSM’s brand-new educational programs – their most engaging and interactive to date! Programs strive to align closely with the Saskatchewan school curriculum and relate closely to the museum’s areas of focus: Aboriginal Studies, Life Science and Earth Science.

Teachers are welcome to lead students through the galleries on their own. Just call 306-787-2815 or email education@royalsaskmuseum.ca to give us a heads up. Tours and programs are free. A suggested donation is $2 per student.

Donations help support all of the RSM’s programs, exhibits and services. The museum, located at 2445 Albert Street in Regina, is open from 9:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. daily.

It is the home of a full-sized replica of Scotty, Saskatchewan’s Tyrannosaurus Rex skeleton, one of the largest and most complete in the world.

Programs are offered for students from Kindergarten to Grade 12.

Classes can participate in a guided tour of the gallery, watch The Dinosaur Hunters – a documentary about the discovery of Scotty – in the Canada Discovery Theatre, and learn about Saskatchewan dinosaurs, fossils and micro-fossils through interactive programs that align with the provincial curriculum. Educational Programs are available in May and June and are free. Donations of $2 per student are encouraged to help support the museum’s programs and services.

Wascana Centre Wascana Centre is a place for education! With 2,300 acres of urban parkland in the heart of Regina encompassing the Saskatchewan Legislative Building, MacKenzie Art Gallery, University of Regina and more, Wascana Centre has a lot to offer.

The Habitat Conservation Area (HCA) provides a natural oasis in the midst of the city. Here you can make arrangements for guided programming or follow the self-guided tour. Mammal, bird and plant life checklists are available for those with keen eyes and inquisitive minds.

Open from May to September, the Waterfowl Park Display Ponds offer a great place to come to learn about wildlife, view our captive waterfowl up close, and feed the birds their greens and grains. Wascana Centre provides a great venue for bird watching.

Wascana Centre is full of walking trails and offers fun and play at the Skate Plaza and Candy Cane Playground, both near the Saskatchewan Science Centre. The Wascana Pool and Playground are southeast of the Royal Saskatchewan Museum, and there are picnic sites scattered all around Wascana Centre. There is also the opportunity to canoe or kayak on Wascana Lake.

In the winter, Wascana Centre users enjoy cross-country skiing on groomed trails, snowshoeing across snow-covered meadows and tobogganing on Wascana Hill.

Founded in 1949, the Swift Current Museum consists of two main galleries.

Our Permanent Gallery explores the relationship between human activities and the natural environment and resources of Southwest Saskatchewan from the post-glacial period to present day. Our Temporary Exhibitions Gallery features exhibitions on various topics pertaining to the natural and human history of Saskatchewan’s southwestern regions.

The Swift Current museum is also home to the Swift Current and District Archives. As well it maintains a small research library of local and regional history. The museum is also home to an extensive archival photograph collection of regional and local photographs dating to the late 19th century.

Youth Farm BIBLE CAMP

he Youth Farm Bible Camp is located east of Rosthern, SK, on highway 11 north of Saskatoon. We are a Christian faith-based organization, running a summer camp, a corn maze, and a year-round rental facility. We have an amazing camp yard with a farm atmosphere that has fantastic animals and tons of activities.

The setting at our camp is perfect for outdoor education and adventure! With a strong agriculture base of our programming, a trip to the Youth Farm Bible Camp can be used to greatly enhance current school units or curriculum. Bring your class for a couple hours, a school day, or overnight. We are flexible and will do our best to meet your needs and requests.

24 HOUR MINI-RETREAT EXPERIENCE (OR MORE DAYS) This package includes all of the Two Hour and Full School Day activities, plus time for riding horses and canoeing. Three meals and one snack are included with the overnight stay. Our corn maze is open September-October but overnight rentals are available from September-June.

Longer retreat rentals are available for up to five days with an option to arrange partial days.

Tunnels of Moose Jaw At the Tunnels of Moose Jaw, we aim to engage our guests with both facts and fun all rolled into one dynamic presentation. We offer two separate theatrically guided experiences:

• The Passage to Fortune tells the story of the Chinese immigrants’ journey into Canada in the late 1800s. The students learn about the Head Tax, the Chinese Immigration Act and how these brave men helped build the CPR. It deals with their ultimate survival despite racism and hatred they suffered on a daily basis.

• The Chicago Connection offers a glimpse into the days of prohibition, bootlegging and gangsters in the 1920s right here Moose Jaw. Moose Jaw at the time was rife with political corruption and bad behavior by many in power. The students learn about their country’s history and the way things were in the Roaring Twenties.

We offer packages to all teachers so their students can learn about Canadian history in a unique and memorable way. It’s a great way to supplement what is being taught in your classrooms.

The camp is used in the summer to provide hundreds of youth an opportunity away from the heart of the city and then is available year round to schools, youth groups and retreats. Beaver Creek Camp can accommodate groups of up to 100 people in seven fully winterized cabins. Each cabin is clean, with washrooms and comfortable sleeping facilities for 12–18 campers. The dining hall is equipped with a full kitchen and can seat up to 120 campers comfortably. There is a large program building as well as smaller rooms available. The large sports court, soccer field and sand volleyball pit offer a great opportunity for fun and exercise. The large fire pit area offers a great place to wind down for the evening with wiener roasts, campfire songs and skits.

Climbing covers the four fundamental general outcomes: Activity: Indoor climbing fits best into the area of activities in Alternative Environments but also can fit under Individual Activities and Gymnastics.

Benefits Health: Indoor climbing is an activity that works cardio, strength, muscular endurance and flexibility through the whole body! Climbing meets the requirements of Functional Fitness and Well-being.

Cooperation: Indoor climbing promotes positive interaction with others in many different ways from trusting a belayer (rope holder) to encouraging a partner to succeed on a climb. Climbing meets the curriculum requirements of Communication, Fair Play, Leadership and Teamwork.

Do It Daily, Do It For Life: This is where indoor climbing really shines, as it provides opportunities for students of all skill levels regardless of age, body type or gender. A rarity in other sports, climbing allows for the opportunity of Recreational and International Athletes to participate in the activity side by side. Climbing meets the requirements of Effort, Safety, Goal Setting/personal Challenge and Active Living in the Community.

Grip It offers school group classes that run for an hour to two hours. Prices start at just $6.75 per student, and fees include gear rental and instruction.

Table Mountain Regional Park Winter is Calling!

Want to warm up this winter with an action-packed day on the slopes? Table Mountain Regional Park has programs for every grade (4 to 12) and skill level! Skiing, snowboarding, lessons and tubing – the possibilities are endless.

• Rentals and Chalet open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Please stay on busses until 9 a.m.

• Lifts run from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

• School Programs 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Please note all students are required to participate in a lesson approximately one-hour in length.

All of our instructors are CSIA and CASI certified.

• Tubing Park is open 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. (additional fee) • All rental equipment must be returned by 5 p.m.

With a $2.6-million chalet expansion, there is plenty of space for a quick rest and a bite to eat. Expansion includes a larger kitchen and seating areas. Our kitchen serves everything from breakfast, lunch, snacks and everything in between!

Death Valley Paintball Death Valley Paintball is located less than an hour northwest of Regina. With mature, skilled officials, it is an excellent choice to take your school students. Paintball is a fun way to learn some of the skills of real life: leadership, teamwork, teambuilding and judgement – also, the realization that there are consequences for mistakes or not following direction. It also creates a stronger bond between teachers and students when teachers get involved in the games.

Duck Lake Regional Interpretive Centre Come and enjoy a guided tour of our centre, featuring our ongoing theme, “Frontier of First Nation, Métis and Pioneer Society from 1870-1905.”

Learn about the lifestyles of the Willow Cree First Nation, Métis and pioneer people, interpreted through artwork, artifact displays and interactive models. Our museum collection includes some impressive historic items, among them a gold watch belonging to Gabriel Dumont. Other items in our collection include costumes, beadwork, religious articles, pioneer tools and equipment from the Hudson Bay Company, the North West Mounted Police and local residents.

Tours are available in French and English, and interpretive texts are translated in English, French with some Cree and Michif.

The Heritage Christmas Program (November to December) includes cultural crafts and activities with a seasonal flavour. We can help plan

your group’s Christmas party with a catered meal, tour and activities.

Hours of operation are 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., seven days a week from Victoria Day to Labour Day. We are open by appointment during winter, and tours are available during winter months (please call for bookings). Pre-booked catered meals are also available for groups.

A gift shop, viewing tower, picnic area, free parking, art gallery and videos are all part of the Interpretive Centre experience.

Admission rates are as follows:

Seniors - $3.50

Students - $2.50 Family rate - $12 (two guardians and children under 18).

Wadena & District Museum Thanks to the hard work and dedication of many volunteers, Wadena’s original CNR Train station continues to welcome visitors since it was built in 1904. Now receiving visitors by car, the station is home to Wadena’s Visitor Information Centre and the Wadena Museum and Nature Centre highlighting the area’s cultural and natural heritage.

A number of buildings and exhibits portray pioneer life. Guided tours are available of the CNR station, a oneroom Schoolhouse, a teacherage,

a blacksmith shop, a NWMP post replica, a Doukhabour Banya (bath house), a general store, a Church, vintage farm machinery and the Brice House built in 1914, giving visitors a unique glimpse into our prairie history.

The Nature Centre has interactive maps of the Wadena Wetlands Viewing Area, computer games, exhibits featuring shorebirds and waterfowl and a large wetland diorama. Birders can learn all about the areas songbirds.

YoUr sCHool CoUld Help Us FInd oUT! University researchers in conjunction with Manitoba government want to learn how two predator species interact at the edge of the Arctic. Do wolves predate on bear cubs as they come off the sea ice in July? Are mother polar bears affected? Is climate change and early melting ice a factor?

This is new and fascinating (and fun!) research in an unstudied ecosystem. A few schools in North America can participate by sponsoring a GPS collar to track “their” wolf for a $400+ contribution. Students can learn about eco-systems, predators, biodiversity, GPS tracking, and link to participating schools. Deadline is Oct. 18/2014. Research begins in 2015.

Spirit Way Inc. Thompson, Manitoba has become the Wolf Capital of the World, with numerous wolf pro-jects underway in the areas of research, ecotourism, conferences, conservation, public art, human dimensions study, Aboriginal culture and more. Situated in northern Manito-ba’s wilderness boreal forest region, wolves have lived and preyed here for thousands of years. With no ranching and little farming, human/wolf conflicts have not been an is-sue, as in many other parts of the world.

There has been very little scientific study done in northern Manitoba on wolf movements, diet and population. There are many un-knowns. One wolf author stated, “You are living in a researcher’s dream world.”

Wolves and their prey (deer in the south, moose in the forest areas, caribou in the taiga region and polar bear interaction along the coast of Hudson Bay) in Manitoba’s biomes offer unique study opportunities. A research team has been gathered, with Dr. Marco Musiani and Dr. Paul Galpern from University of Calgary, to study the wolf and polar bear dynamics along Hudson Bay coastline at the edge of the Arctic.

A limited number of schools will be allowed to participate by receiving and tracking GPS data of radio collared wolves and getting reports from the researchers. To learn about wolves, polar bears and climate change in one study project is unique and somewhat ground breaking. Schools that participate from different provinces, states and countries will be able to link to each other and learn about northern predators, and also them-selves, living in different parts of the world. Schools from northern Manitoba, USA and Italy have expressed early interest. It will be a fascinating interaction at different levels. Options for study and learning will be discussed. We anticipate significant media attention.

Alfred Jenkins Field House The Alfred Jenkins Field House, operated by the City of Prince Albert, offers variety of programs and services designed to meet the recreation needs of Prince Albert and area residents. The facility features a multi-purpose indoor soccer turf, a 22-foothigh climbing wall, indoor three-lane track, and three multipurpose rooms. The Broda Family Fitness Centre includes cardio and weight machines and a full-sized gymnasium.

Located at 2787 - 10th Avenue West, the Alfred Jenkins Field House is open seven days a week from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., September to June, and from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. in July and August.

We can accommodate groups of up to 30 plus students at one time, and rotate through 3 water-based activities. Groups will move through activities with emphasis on enjoying the lakes and having fun. These activities start from the Hanging Heart Lakes Marina, and will be approximately 1 hour in length.

With our Guide in the stern of the canoe, paddle along the lake, listen to the sound of your paddle as it cuts through the water, and hear about the history of the voyageur canoe, as it was used in the days of the Fur Trade.

THE LAST TRUE WEST

T

HE GRAND STORY of the settlement of the West, and the conflict that accompanied it, echoes across the prairies, with tales of the Métis leaders; Louis Riel and Gabriel Dumont; Cree Chiefs Poundmaker and Big Bear; Sam Steele of the NWMP and Major General Frederick Middleton.

Travel the Trails of 1885 and experience the events, sites and stories that helped form our country.

Begin your quest in Winnipeg, Manitoba, where you can visit the St. Boniface Museum, with its amazing collection of Métis artifacts and stories, as well as the birthplace and gravesite of Louis Riel. Follow the Métis frontier and travel west across the prairies to the South Saskatchewan River.

Today, the city of Saskatoon makes a convenient starting point for the rest of your exploration.

Valleys of the Saskatchewan About 70 km north of Saskatoon, experience Métis culture and heritage at Batoche National Historic Site 1 . Learn more about this historic battle by exploring the Government militia trenches, Métis rifle pits, and battlefield. Along with the restored church and rectory, the Visitor Reception Centre has extensive exhibits, audio-visual presentation, and programming to bring the Métis people’s story to life.

In the cemetery, a large river stone indicates where Gabriel Dumont is buried overlooking the beautiful riverbank.

A short distance south of Batoche, is the Battle of Tourond’s Coulee/ FishCreek National Historic Site, where the first military engagement between the Métis and government forces took place. On the battlefield, view the silhouettes of government militia exchanging fire across Fish Creek with Métis and First Nations sharpshooters. North of Batoche, take the ferry across the river to scenic St. Laurent, an early Métis settlement and home of Our Lady of Lourdes Shrine which hosts an annual religious pilgrimage.

Back on Hwy 11, the Duck Lake Regional Interpretive Centre tells the 1885 story from three perspectives: settlers, First Nations, and the Métis. For expansive views of the area, climb the centres 24-metre tower. Explore the town’s colorful murals depicting local history, and visit the First Shots Cairn, where a skirmish between the NWMP and Métis fighters resulted in the first shots of the conflict. To the west, on Hwy 212, Fort Carlton Provincial Park 2 recreates the golden era of the fur trade, but some of its exhibits deal with the NWMP’s hurried evacuation of the post after the battle at Duck Lake, and the resulting destruction of the fort by fire.

Battle River Country Northwest of Saskatoon, at the scenic confluence of the Battle and North Saskatchewan Rivers, the twin communities of North Battleford and Battleford (once the seat of the North West Territorial government) are rich in history. At Fort Battleford National Historic Site 4 , learn about life as a Mountie, and hear the stories of Chief Poundmaker and the settlers during those eventful days. Follow the story by traveling west of the Battlefords to Cut Knife and visit the Chief Poundmaker Historical Centre and the Battle of Poundmaker Hill National Historic Site 3 , on the Poundmaker Cree Nation.

The North West Frontier North of Lloydminster, discover the fascinating story of Chief Big Bear and his clash with government forces. At Frog Lake National Historic Site in Alberta, about an hour from the city, grave markers are a grim reminder of the Frog Lake Massacre.

Back in Saskatchewan, Fort Pitt Provincial Historic Park tells of the misunderstanding that resulted in the killing of an NWMP scout by the Cree, and the subsequent departure of the Mounties and the burning of the fort. The story continues at Frenchman Butte National Historic Site, to the east, where Cree rifle pits and the government artillery site are reminders of the difficulties Canadian militia had when they responded to the Frog Lake Massacre by attacking the Cree’s more strategic location.

There are many more stories of the 1885 North West Resistance, and its aftermath, told at other sites and museums in Saskatchewan, Alberta, and Manitoba: at Humboldt, Sask., the site of the original Humboldt Telegraph Station and military camp; at Fort Edmonton (on their ‘1885 Street’), in the Sir Samuel Steele Collection at the University of Alberta, through exhibits at Fort Calgary and Calgary’s Glenbow Museum, and at the RCMP Heritage Centre in Regina. Visit them and experience the history of the last true west!
