Our commitment lies in listening, adapting, and ensuring that we remain a vital resource for businesses and entrepreneurs.
As we turn the page to a new chapter at the Parkland Chamber of Commerce, I want to take a moment to reflect on where we’ve been, where we’re going, and the incredible people who have shaped our journey.
First and foremost, I want to extend my deepest gratitude to Stephen Chychota, who has dedicated the past 10 years to serving this Chamber with passion, perseverance, and an unwavering commitment to our business community. His leadership has been instrumental in guiding the Chamber through growth, challenges, and countless successes.
While we are sad to see him go, we celebrate this next incredible opportunity in his career and wish him nothing but success. He has left an indelible mark on our organization, and for that, we are forever grateful.
As we move forward, we recognize the importance of reimagining how the Chamber operates with a renewed focus on the needs of the Parkland business community. Our commitment lies in listening, adapting, and ensuring that we remain a vital resource for businesses and entrepreneurs. Additionally, we want to acknowledge and give greater recognition to the incredible leaders—both past and present—who have played a vital role in the Chamber’s succession and development over the years. Their dedication and vision have built the foundation upon which we stand today, and their contributions continue to shape our path forward.
Equally important is our investment in the next generation of leaders. By fostering mentorship opportunities, encouraging youth engagement, and creating platforms for emerging entrepreneurs, we aim to cultivate a strong foundation for the future. The success of our community depends on those who step forward with new ideas, energy, and passion, and we are committed to supporting and empowering them as they take on leadership roles in the Parkland region.
At the heart of the Parkland Chamber of Commerce is a commitment to connection, collaboration, and growth. Together, we will navigate these changes, celebrate our successes, and build an even stronger foundation for the future. Thank you for being part of this journey—we are just getting started.
Sincerely,
Jon Yerama
Well folks, after 10-and-a-half years with the Parkland Chamber of Commerce, the time has come for me to say farewell. It’s hard to put into words just how much this journey has meant to me.
From the early days as the Dauphin & District Chamber of Commerce to the transformation into the Parkland Chamber, we’ve grown in ways I couldn’t have imagined. I am so proud of the growth—not only for myself in my career—but what we’ve been able to accomplish with this incredible organization. Being part of that evolution has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career. We’ve increased our capacity, elevated our profile, and solidified our role as a true champion for businesses in this region.
As curious and excited I am to explore life outside of a Chamber and being in a new community, this isn’t an easy departure. Dauphin and this region have always been home for me. The Chamber has also been a huge part of my life and—as you could imagine—leaving behind something that you’ve helped shape is never simple. But when a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity presented itself for a spouse, they have to be taken.
As we embark on that journey together, I’m looking forward to the next adventure. Going forward, my focus will now shift fully to my role with the Manitoba Chambers of Commerce (MCC) where I’ll continue supporting Chambers across the province (with maybe some special attention for the Parkland Chamber. Shhh).
The position of Chamber Relations Coordinator is something I developed for MCC a couple of years ago and have been fulfilling it part-time for a year now. I am very excited to be able to focus solely on that project and build more capacity so that I and MCC can better serve the local Chambers across the province. This has been a big passion of mine as I’ve gotten to know the Chamber network.
This Chamber is in great hands, and I know that with the incredible team and network in place, it will continue to move forward. The strength of this Chamber has always been in its people—the various individuals, partners, members, and supporters that have helped shape the Chamber.
We have built something very special. To everyone who has been a part of this journey, thank you. Thank you for your trust, your collaboration, and your passion for making the Parkland a better place to do business. I can’t properly express the
gratitude I have for the board members, partners, and individuals that I have worked with over the years. There are some amazingly talented folks in this region who are truly passionate about making each day better than the last.
It has been an honour to serve as Executive Director, and work along side you all! I can’t wait to see what the future holds for the Chamber and the entire region. This isn’t goodbye—it’s just a new chapter.
To those reading this—whether you’re a current or future member, a current or future board member, a current or future partner, or supporter—don’t ease off the gas now. In fact, punch it! The Chamber is a powerful vehicle for driving progress, and the more you fuel it with your support, engagement, and investment, the farther and faster it can take this region. Keep pushing, keep building, and keep making the Parkland stronger. It’s been a slice.
Sincerely,
Stephen Chychota

grounded in print. redefining communications.
It has been an immense honour to promote what our region has to offer.
After numerous visits with locals from across our region, the beauty of the Parkland continues to amaze me. From our rich heritage to our vast landscape and tight-knit communities, our rural region has immense potential.
With the looming threat of American tariffs, our enduring spirit has been most special. Residents of the Parkland have done their part by standing strong and supporting local.
In these times of immense uncertainty, Canadians deserve their federal government work diligently to deliver a plan that puts Canada first and addresses continued economic insecurity.
I will continue to promote our rural region in Ottawa and advocate for policies that deliver real solutions. This starts by harnessing our entrepreneurial spirit and allowing the Parkland to share its talents right across this great nation.
To unleash the full potential of the Parkland, our government should remove red tape on economic development and promote policies that harness Canada’s abundant natural resources.
To spur growth, our government should reduce crushing taxes and interprovincial trade barriers for our entrepreneurs and workers to thrive.
This includes repealing taxes on energy and investment, including the punitive carbon tax and capital gains tax hikes – which have set Canada back compared to our neighbours to the south.
I have heard countless stories about the impact of crime on our region – especially from businesses and entrepreneurs. From having to bar windows and doors—to installing costly security measures, and dealing with theft—rising crime by repeat offenders is yet another blow to businesses already feeling the pinch.
Our federal government should address rising crime with commonsense solutions to bring back the safety of our communities. I have no doubt that the Parkland region will continue to weather this moment in our history with the strong rural spirit we all know and love.
Times like these present us with the opportunity to do our part, working with our neighbours across Canada and ensuring our nation is strong on the world stage.
Spring is a season of renewal, growth, and hope. Here in rural Manitoba, the change in season highlights the resilience of our agricultural sector.
As life is once again restored on our fields and farms, it’s a great opportunity to reflect on the crucial role agriculture plays in sustaining our province’s economy. For agricultural producers in the Parkland region and across Manitoba, spring represents a time to prepare for a productive year ahead, navigating the challenges of fluctuating weather patterns and making strategic decisions that impact both short-term production and long-term sustainability.
In my role as MLA, it’s a privilege working alongside the farmers, business owners, and organizations who are the backbone of our local economy. One particular organization that stands out for me is the Dauphin and District Chamber of Commerce, a cornerstone of economic development in our region since 1903.
Over a century later, the Chamber continues to be a vital partner in supporting local businesses and fostering growth throughout the Parkland. Going forward, the collaborative efforts of local councils, Indigenous leadership, and community organizations will be essential to ensuring the continued success of the Parkland and its economic development.
At the same time, we must recognize how the roller coaster of economic challenges that the on-again-offagain tariffs on Canadian agricultural products add uncertainty to our agricultural sector. I believe these challenges are not insurmountable. Despite the obstacles posed by fluctuating trade relationships, especially the impact of American tariffs on Canadian exports, our commitment to supporting Manitoba’s farmers and businesses remains unwavering.
As your Minister of Agriculture, I will continue to advocate for the interests of our farmers on both provincial and national stages, working tirelessly to find new opportunities that ensure Manitoba’s agricultural exports remain competitive on the global market.
Spring also offers us an opportunity to celebrate the incredible potential and innovation that continues to thrive in our region. I’m proud to share that consultations with our partners in Dauphin reflect our government’s commitment to the establishment of a new Justice Centre facility in the community. These efforts, along with capacitybuilding for labour market support, and our dedication to improving rural healthcare, are bringing about real and meaningful changes for Parkland families.
This spring, I’m excited to see initiatives like the rebranded
Parkland Business Expo continue to expand. Looking ahead, this summer promises vibrant events, including Dauphin’s Countryfest and the 60th anniversary celebration of Canada’s National Ukrainian Festival.
As we embrace the renewal and growth that spring brings, I remain hopeful and optimistic about the future of the Parkland. While we undoubtedly face challenges, the resilience of our community, its spirit of collaboration, and our collective commitment to innovation will continue to guide us towards a prosperous future. Together, we will celebrate and protect the economic, cultural, and natural treasures that make the Parkland such a remarkable place to live.
As the MLA for the Dauphin Constituency and Manitoba’s Minister of Agriculture, I am proud to be working alongside our Premier and I share his tireless efforts to honour and support rural Manitobans. With help from the continuing efforts of our municipal and Indigenous partners, we are succeeding.

The objective of this program is to recruit and select foreign skilled workers for the region.
The Parkland Chamber of Commerce, Regional Connections, and the Rural Manitoba Economic Development Corporation, launched the successful Immigrate Parkland program in 2024.
The Parkland Regional Immigration Committee consists of seven municipalities: the City of Dauphin; Rural Municipality of Dauphin; Municipality of Grandview; Municipality of Gilbert Plains; Municipality of Mossy River; Municipality of Ste. Rose; Municipality of Roblin; and three strategic partners.
The objective of the program is to recruit and select foreign skilled workers for the region in hopes of supporting the immediate and longterm labour market needs of the region.
The pilot program kicked off in early 2024 with a goal of selecting 50 qualified skilled immigrants within the first 12 months. The goal was met (and surpassed) with a waiting list of candidates for 2025.
To date, the focus has been on endorsing applicants with confirmed employment within one of the participating municipalities. The program provides endorsement letters on behalf of clients who are interested in applying for permanent residency through the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP), making it a key resource for those looking to build a future in the region. By enabling immigrants to bring their families, Immigrate Parkland also fosters community integration and encourages longterm settlement.
The immediate impact of the program is the ability of local businesses to successfully recruit and retain employees, addressing
critical labor shortages and ensuring continued business operations and growth. Long term, the program can have a significant impact on the region’s ability to experience population growth, contributing to a more vibrant and diverse community. As more skilled workers settle in the area, businesses thrive, and the local economy strengthens. Additionally, the increasing cultural diversity enriches our communities, fostering inclusivity and a greater sense of belonging for all residents.
Looking ahead to 2025, the program aims to increase the number of successfully endorsed candidates and to expand its reach and impact by securing additional resources to connect interested candidates with open employment vacancies. This will further strengthen the region’s ability to attract and retain skilled workers, ensuring local businesses have the workforce they need to thrive.
By continuing to support skilled immigration and enhancing business attraction efforts, Immigrate Parkland is not only addressing workforce gaps but also contributing to the economic growth and sustainability of the Parkland region. To learn more, visit www.immigrateparkland.ca.

The Parkland Chamber of Commerce is taking a proactive approach to online accessibility through its Accessible Communications project, funded by the Manitoba Accessibility Fund.
This initiative is designed to support the Chamber in meeting legislative requirements, while also positioning the organization as a leader in inclusive communication practices.
While many businesses and organizations have focused on physical accessibility, digital accessibility remains an area that has not been widely reviewed or considered. The Parkland Chamber recognizes that true accessibility goes beyond compliance—it’s about
fostering a welcoming and inclusive business environment for everyone, both in physical spaces and online.
The Chamber’s Accessible Communications project is structured in two phases. Phase 1 wrapped up in March 2025 and included audits of the Chamber’s online marketing tools, staff training, a public workshop, immediate implementation of some key learnings, and the development of a roadmap with recommended action steps for 2025 and beyond. This foundational work has provided critical insights into how the Chamber and its members can improve digital accessibility and
ensure that communications are more inclusive.
Phase 2 will focus on further implementation of these accessibility improvements and will feature an information session for Chamber members. This session will serve as a platform to share insights and learnings from the Chamber’s efforts, using its own experience as a case study. By openly sharing best practices and challenges, the Chamber aims to help local businesses take meaningful steps toward more accessible communication.
“We want to empower our Chamber and our members to not only meet legal standards but to embrace accessibility as a daily action,” says Stephen Chychota, Executive Director.
“This project is about leadership— ensuring that our region is ahead of the curve when it comes to inclusive communication.”
The Parkland Chamber of Commerce is setting a standard for accessible communications, demonstrating that inclusivity and economic growth go hand in hand. Businesses interested in learning more about accessibility are encouraged to contact the Chamber office and to review the resources and funding information available through the Manitoba Accessibility Office at www.accessibilitymb.ca.
By Zoey Jebb, Chairperson, West Central Manitoba Immigration Initiative
The West Central Manitoba Immigration Initiative is a collaborative pilot program between eight neighbouring communities. We are dedicated to selecting and supporting newcomers with specific skill sets who are well-positioned to successfully integrate and contribute to our region.
Through a refined screening and selection process, we seek candidates from around the world with established ties to our communities that have the
ability to help fill local labour market shortages. We are excited to have officially selected our first candidates for endorsement and continue to work with the province as we move forward in this endeavor.
Inspired by the success of similar initiatives, like the Immigrate Parkland program, we have had the privilege of learning from their experiences and applying their insights to our own efforts. We greatly appreciate the connection
and collaboration with neighbouring regions, which strengthens our ability to help this initiative thrive.
Many of our first applicants have been individuals already living and working in the region that are seeking an avenue to stay and build long-term futures within our “Great 8” communities. As we move forward into 2025, we are excited to expand our reach and extend the opportunity to join our communities to others around the world.
“We greatly appreciate the connection and collaboration with neighbouring regions, which strengthens our ability to help this initiative thrive.”
Ron Kostyshyn MLA for Dauphin Constituency
JUNE 26-29, 2025
2024 was a big year for the RM of Dauphin! This year we took a significant step by launching the Immigrate Parkland initiative with the Parkland Regional Immigration Committee.
This partnership with the Province of Manitoba, seven municipalities in the Parkland, and the Parkland Chamber of Commerce has been a huge success for our region. This multi-agency initiative has helped to strengthen relationships and has demonstrated the value of working together. We look forward to the continued growth of this program!
Council also began the process of creating the Municipality’s first strategic plan. This plan will outline Council’s vision for the future and create a roadmap to ensure success.
This project demonstrates Council’s commitment to the future, and we are excited to reveal our plan later this year!
There are two major accomplishments that we are very proud of in the Mossey River Municipality.
• We purchased a new fire truck that will serve and meet the needs of our municipality for many years to come,
• We worked together with the Winnipegosis Golf Club and did a major Greens replacement project at the Winnipegosis Golf Course.
One major goal for 2025 is to establish a local dock area and waterfront recreation project that will benefit fisherman and tourist and, in turn, increase tourism and economic opportunities.
Accomplishments and Vision for 2025: South-End Development and Infrastructure Enhancements
One of the most significant achievements in 2024 was the major infrastructure improvements in Dauphin’s south end, a project that will undoubtedly bolster both economic growth and public safety.
This multi-faceted initiative included substantial upgrades to Provincial Trunk Highway (PTH) 5A, transforming it into a divided highway with new service roads and a signalized intersection at the mall entrance.
This project—not only enhances traffic safety—but also supports the area’s expanding commercial sector, which is seeing the arrival of a Shoppers Drug Mart, the Anishinaabe Aki Petro-Can Gas Bar, and a shiny new Twin Motors dealership.
Another key highlight for 2024 has been the strong, united leadership demonstrated by Dauphin’s City Council and Administration.
This collaborative approach has led to unanimous decisions on major
community initiatives, including the adoption of a progressive new Animal Services Bylaw, investments in Maamawi Park, strategic tax and budget planning, and thoughtful decisions around recreation and a new childcare centre.
The alignment between Council and Administration ensures consistency with decision-making, allowing Dauphin to move forward with projects that truly benefit residents.
Building on the momentum of 2024, Dauphin is setting ambitious goals for the upcoming year. Priorities include the development of a Craft District along 2nd Avenue NW, which is poised to become a vibrant public space designed to support local artists, entrepreneurs, and cultural events.
The City is also establishing a Development Reserve Fund to facilitate strategic growth, enhancing active transportation networks for a more walkable and bike-friendly community, and advancing critical infrastructure projects such as the $20 million Lagoon Expansion and scheduled construction of Prairie Park Place – a new childcare facility that will bring new life to a dormant Dauphin Recreation Services space.
With a clear vision and strong leadership, Dauphin remains committed to growth, economic development, and community wellbeing.
After over a decade of success, Go Beyond Games, Dauphin’s local gaming store, has taken a major step forward with an exciting expansion. The store’s new location at 223 Main Street North has been a longanticipated move, made possible by a community that has enthusiastically supported the business since its humble beginnings.
Co-owners Joe Houston and Jeff Schulz opened Go Beyond Games in 2013 after realizing a shared passion for gaming and a noticeable gap in the market. The two were long-time friends who noticed the absence of a local game store after the closure
of a similar shop in the area. They started small, experimenting with garage sales to gauge interest.
“Jeff was in the city taking a business diploma and working, and there was an opportunity for us to do a series of garage sales to test the waters. That’s kind of how we felt out the pulse in Dauphin,” says Houston.
“When we had our first garage sale that advertised what we were doing, we clogged up the street and got complaints from our neighbours. So that was an indicator to us that there was interest.”
Go Beyond Games originally opened
By Shayna Wiwierski
at 112 Main Street North in Dauphin, but had seen steady growth over the years, including during the COVID-19 pandemic. During that time, Go Beyond Games pivoted to an online sales model, offering free delivery across the city. This move helped them stay connected with their customer base and ensured they could continue serving the community’s entertainment needs during difficult times. By the end of 2022, the store had outgrown its space, prompting Houston and Schulz to pursue a larger building to accommodate the demand for events and products.
When the Prairie Supply building became available, the two partners seized the opportunity. After purchasing the building in November 2024, they opened their doors just two weeks later. The new store boasts a modern, spacious layout, providing a much better shopping experience for customers and an event space that has quickly proven to be a hit with the community.
The event space, which can seat more than 30 people, already fills up regularly, showcasing the strong demand for such a facility in Dauphin. The space is designed to serve the need for more activities in the community and is part of the company’s broader vision of offering a more immersive experience for
customers, as well as a place for residents to hang out and have fun.
“There’s no question that with good entertainment options in town, people are less inclined to leave Dauphin for an evening of entertainment and say, go up to Riding Mountain or go to another town or city to spend their money,” says Houston. “So ideally we’ll keep some more entertainment dollars in Dauphin.”
The board game library currently offers more than 200 titles, with customers able to pay a daily fee and soon sign up for monthly or annual memberships. With an evergrowing library of games, Go Beyond Games is poised to provide hours
of entertainment at a price point that cannot be matched by most alternatives. The goal is to offer something that appeals to all ages and interests, creating a welcoming environment for everyone who walks through the door.
While the expansion has opened exciting new possibilities for the store, Houston and Schulz remain focused on what makes their business unique: their connection to the community.
“We wouldn’t be here without our community. There is no store without the people that play in it and the people that engage with it,” says Houston. “People in our community understand what we were bringing to the table and have been very excited about the expansion.”
This philosophy of prioritizing community is integral to the store’s success and continues to guide its growth. Go Beyond Games has become a “third place” for many residents of Dauphin— a space that is outside home and work where they can come together, share experiences, and form lasting friendships.
Houston shared that one of the most
gratifying aspects of the expansion is seeing the community engage with the business in new ways. He says that people who might not have been familiar with board games or video games are leaving with a much better understanding of what they do. The inclusive atmosphere at Go Beyond Games has encouraged diverse groups to gather, from families to retirees, all enjoying the sense of camaraderie and fun that the store has fostered.
As Go Beyond Games continues to grow, plans for future expansion are already in the works. The next step is to complete renovations to add more bathrooms, with the long-term goal of offering alcohol service to enhance the gaming experience further. With this addition, customers will be able to enjoy a beverage while playing their favourite games, making it even easier to spend a relaxing evening at the store. As Houston noted, the expanded space has already helped the team become more efficient, with fewer obstacles in their dayto-day operations, allowing them to better meet the needs of their customers.
Looking to the future, the team
Go Beyond Games’ expansion is not just about more space and products— it’s about giving the people of Dauphin a place to connect, share their passions, and experience something new.
also plans to hire additional staff to manage the new space and provide even more hours of operation to accommodate growing demand.
Go Beyond Games’ expansion is not just about more space and products— it’s about giving the people of Dauphin a place to connect, share their passions, and experience something new. It’s a vision that Houston and Schultz have nurtured from the very beginning, and as they continue
to evolve, the store remains committed to providing a welcoming environment for everyone in the community.
“We’re here because we saw there was a need for this,” says Houston. “It’s been nice engaging with the community and having them learn about us and seeing them come back with a greater understanding and appreciation. It’s really one of the most enjoyable parts of having a business in Dauphin.”

Located just southeast of Dauphin, North Mountain Adventures has evolved from a single-focus outfitting business to a multifaceted venture offering cabin rentals and a TV show.
Founded in 2014 by Craig and Melanie MacCarthy, the company has been shaped by their deep passion for the outdoors and their commitment to providing unique, hands-on experiences for their guests.
North Mountain Adventures started off as a specialized outfitting operation, catering primarily to American hunters seeking guided trips for black bear and whitetail deer. While they are licensed to host local hunters, the majority of their clients come from across the U.S. The success of the outfitting business is due to Craig’s background in the outfitting industry, as growing up in an outfitting family, he always dreamed of running his own business. North Mountain Adventures provided the perfect outlet for that passion.
“We started with outfitting, running primarily American clients for bear and deer hunts,” says Melanie. “It’s been a good fit for us, and we’ve built a loyal client base over the years.”
But like many businesses, North Mountain Adventures
faced unprecedented challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic. With international travel restrictions in place and a halt to many tourism activities, the MacCarthys were forced to pivot. That’s when they decided to expand their operations and open their property to cabin rentals.
“We had a cabin here for outfitting guests and we always thought about having them as rentals. It was just never a priority until COVID, and it was kind of out of necessity where it was like we have this real estate sitting right here and we’re not really utilizing it to its full potential,” says Melanie.
“We have trails right here, some trails on site, as well as snowshoes and soccer nets. It’s a nice space to relax but it’s also close to lots of things.”
The two cabins, located on their property, have proven popular with guests. They offer a quiet, rustic experience with easy access to local attractions like Rainbow Beach Provincial Park, Northgate Trails, and Clear Lake. The cabins come with all the necessary amenities, making them a perfect spot for families and outdoor lovers looking for a peaceful retreat. On-site trails for hiking, snow-shoeing, and other outdoor activities are also available to guests, allowing them to connect with nature in a tranquil setting.
However, the most significant shift came in 2021 when the MacCarthys launched their TV show, North Mountain Adventures, on Wild TV. The show documents the family’s hunting, fishing, and trapping adventures, taking viewers across North America to experience the great outdoors through the MacCarthy lens.
What started as a personal project to film their outdoor experiences during the pandemic quickly gained traction. Craig had always dreamed of sharing their outdoor life on camera, but it wasn’t until COVID that he had the time to start filming. Six months into the project, Wild TV reached out to the family, asking to feature their footage on the channel. The show quickly took off, with the fourth season airing and the family already filming season five.
“The idea for the TV show came from Craig’s dream of filming our outdoor adventures,” says Melanie. “When COVID came along, he started filming our hunts and trips, and six months later, Wild TV reached out to us. It was pretty exciting to see it all come together so quickly.”
Each episode of North Mountain Adventures features a different outdoor adventure, from hunting trips in Manitoba to fishing excursions in Missouri, and even family hunting trips in Texas. The show showcases the family’s love for the outdoors and the lifestyle they’ve built around it, but it also highlights the important role that their children—aged 11 and 14—play in the business and their adventures.
“The kids have become more involved as we’ve gone along,” Melanie shares. “Having them increasingly involved in all parts of the business [has been amazing]. Also getting to take our kids and travel with them to new places, and film and show them the world still through the lens of what we love to do.”
Despite their success, the MacCarthys acknowledge the challenges of running a business in a competitive industry. Factors like weather, the economy, and global events can have a major impact on their operations, from hunting seasons to international tourism. But rather than being deterred, the MacCarthys have learned to adapt and find creative solutions to stay on track.
“We’ve had to navigate a lot of things out of our control,” says Melanie. “The economy, the weather, and COVID have all had an impact on our business, but we’ve found ways to push forward and keep things moving.”
As for the future, the MacCarthys are excited about what’s next for North Mountain Adventures. They are exploring opportunities to expand their cabin rentals and develop additional offerings on their property. In addition, the TV show is expected to continue growing, with more episodes featuring the family’s adventures and new destinations.
North Mountain Adventures is a prime example of a family business that thrives on passion, adaptability, and a love for the outdoors. What began as an outfitting operation has transformed into a multi-dimensional enterprise that offers hunting trips, cabin rentals, and a TV show. With a strong foundation and a growing audience, the MacCarthys are well on their way to making their mark in the outdoor adventure world for years to come.
“We’ve got a lot of exciting things planned,” Melanie hints. “We’re always looking for new ways to grow and offer more experiences to our guests. We’re looking forward to what the future holds.”
What started as a trial event during the 2015 Homecoming celebration, it has quickly become one of the community’s most anticipated gatherings.

For the people of Grandview, Man., the Grandview Kinsmen Mud Bog and Homecoming event is a beloved tradition that brings the whole community together for a weekend filled with excitement, nostalgia, and pride.
In 2025, the event will mark a monumental milestone— the 125th anniversary of the town’s founding—making it an even more special occasion for everyone involved.
The Grandview Kinsmen Mud Bog and Homecoming is a vibrant, action-packed festival that spans a full weekend, typically running from Friday to Sunday after the August long weekend. This year, however, the festivities kick off early, starting Thursday, August 7, 2025. Co-hosted by the Grandview Kinsmen Club and the Grandview and District Recreation Commission, the event has evolved from its humble beginnings into a major celebration of Grandview’s culture, history, and community spirit.
“It’s a community-oriented, family-friendly weekend that celebrates Grandview’s history and culture,” says Pierce Cairns, chairperson and treasurer for the Mud Bog and Homecoming Committee. “It’s a great opportunity to meet up with friends for the party of the year!”

sports event, the Mud Bog now features a diverse mix of activities, from live concerts and kids’ games to a grand parade and fireworks. For many attendees, it’s the highlight of the year—a chance to reconnect with old friends, share memories, and enjoy the energy of a thriving community.
The Homecoming element of the event is a largerscale celebration that takes place every five years, coinciding with Grandview’s significant anniversaries. With 2025 marking 125 years since the town was unofficially founded, this year’s Homecoming promises to be the most spectacular one yet. The weekend’s cornerstone events include the highly anticipated High School Reunion, which welcomes former students from Grandview High School (1944-1989), as well as the traditional concert or social evening integrated with the Mud Bog.
The event’s origins trace back to a conversation in 2010, when a newcomer to the town expressed excitement for the next Homecoming, only to be told, “You must mean in five years…” The energy and excitement generated by the event led to the suggestion that it should be an annual gathering. Five years later, the idea came to fruition with the first Kinsmen Mud Bog in 2015, which was an instant success, attracting over 400 attendees.
What makes the Grandview Kinsmen Mud Bog and Homecoming truly special is how it fosters a sense of community.
While the Kinsmen Mud Bog started as a trial event during the 2015 Homecoming celebration, it has quickly become one of the community’s most anticipated gatherings.
Since then, the event has grown steadily in popularity, drawing between 1,200 to 1,600 visitors annually. In 2022, the combined Homecoming event saw a peak attendance of 1,700 to 2,000. Organizers anticipate even larger crowds for this year’s celebration, with up to 2,000 attendees expected—along with an army of around 250 to 300 volunteers and organizers, who make the event possible.
“We expect about that 2,000 mark for this year, more if this readership decides to come check it out,” says Cairns. “It’s right around the perfect size for maximizing energy while retaining that safe, small community feeling.”
This year’s milestone event promises an exciting lineup of activities, catering to all ages and interests. Thursday night will feature an early start to the festivities, with a live music event at the Grand Vieux Liquor Company.
On Friday, attendees can enjoy an outdoor craft sale, the iconic Grand Parade, a chainsaw carving showcase, quad pull, tire burnout, and the high school reunion. The evening culminates with a live concert by Shania Twin, North America’s top Shania Twain tribute band.
Saturday’s events will be packed with fun for the whole family, including the 5K Fun Run, a chainsaw carving auction, and the 10th anniversary of the Kinsmen Mud Bog, now hosted at a new and improved pit. Kids can enjoy inflatable activities and mechanical bull riding, while adults can relax with a live DJ at the park. The highlight of the night will be the CanFire Pyrotechnics fire-works show, a breathtaking display that will light up the night sky.
Sunday brings even more excitement, with the classic car and sled “Show ‘n Shine,” Museum Days and BBQ, the Bone Rattler Pedal Pull, and a downhill slip-and-

slide. The Grandview Lakers’ baseball game provides an opportunity to cheer on the local team, and the weekend wraps up with a whole hog roast dinner at the Grandview Kinsmen Community Centre.
Perhaps what makes the Grandview Kinsmen Mud Bog and Homecoming truly special is how it fosters a sense of community. The event draws together people from all walks of life to celebrate the town’s rich history, culture, and traditions. It also gives back to the community, with all proceeds donated to local causes through the Grandview Kinsmen Club, which is dedicated to serving the greatest needs of the community.
The Mud Bog and Homecoming have become more than just an event—they are a symbol of Grandview’s unity, pride, and spirit. As the 125th anniversary of the town approaches, the 2025 celebration promises to be a grander, more energetic affair than ever before. Whether you’re a life-long resident or a first-time visitor, the Grandview Kinsmen Mud Bog and Homecoming is a weekend you won’t want to miss!
“The Mud Bog and Homecoming brings people together, both to enjoy the festivities and to be a part of them as volunteers, participants, organizers, sponsors, or vendors,” says Cairns. “It gives everyone a chance to celebrate our culture and history; to forget our worries for a weekend in a friendly and energetic environment, and to give back to the community through the Kinsmen and Recreation Commission. Very simply, it gives us something to look forward to every summer instead of every five years!”

This Thunder Bay-based company has been in business for a decade and shows no sign of slowing down.

Kasper Transportation owner Kasper Wabinski never thought he would have a career in the business industry. In fact, he thought he would be a pilot.
“The world will tell you what it is willing to offer you,” he says. “You can’t force things to happen, but you have to try and make all the mistakes. Most people want to be safe and comfortable and don’t want to take risks. That’s how the bus industry chose me.”
In business now for 10 years and based in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Wabinski says entrepreneurs need to be persistent and overcome obstacles.
Starting with one route in Manitoba from Dauphin to the Pas, today the company has 40 employees and five routes: Thunder Bay, Ont. to White River, Ont.; Thunder Bay, Ont. to Gladstone, Mb.; Thunder Bay, Ont. to Sioux Lookout, Ont.; Winnipeg, Mb. to Sioux Lookout, Ont.; and Winnipeg, Mb. to the Pas, Mb.
Kasper Transportation “relaunched” its WinnipegDauphin-The Pas return bus route last December. This brings back bus service between northern and southern Manitoba for the first since the Mahihkan Bus Lines ceased operations last September.
In an interview with the Winnipeg Sun last November, he said Manitoba’s intercity transportation history had
significant setback, including the 2018 cessation of Greyhound Canada operations, and the shutdown of Mahihkan Bus Lines, leaving many communities without essential transportation options.
“This milestone marks, not just the resumption of service, but the beginning of a new era in Manitoba’s intercity transportation, addressing decades of challenges, with safety, reliability, and modernized operations.
What some people may not know about are the amenities available on the buses. It is clear that comfort comes first. For example, travelers receive complimentary water bottles, free wi-fi, USB chargers and electrical outlets. This allows travelers to catch up on social media or chat with friends and family.
Kasper Transportation’s new AI-powered chatbot –named Chelsea – also helps customers check their schedule, book trips, get ticket prices, and ask questions without speaking to a person.
Additionally, the seats have been designed to provide comfort with their soft and ample cushioning and are positioned at an angle, allowing for ample legroom—even when sitting in the centre.
“We are committed to doing things properly and safely.”

And when it comes to luggage space, there is plenty. Drivers also assist travelers in loading check-in luggage.
“This service is not just about getting from point A to point B; it’s about reconnecting families and supporting northern Manitoba’s economic and social fabric,” said Wabinski, in an interview with the Winnipeg Sun for an article that was published on November 27, 2024. “We are committed to doing things properly and safely.”
When asked what change he would like to see in the bus industry, he says public transportation faces a disservice as it is treated like a social service.
“I would like it to be treated as a business rather than a

social service. And if the Canadian dollar gets stronger and exchange rate is lower, this will help with costs. This could also cause a change in consumer spending.”
As for what the near future holds, he says he will continue to focus on solutions.
“I’m only 35 years old so I have a long future ahead. It’s like being an apprentice in this business. My strategy is to focus on our own niche.”
When not working, Wabinski and his partner are busy with their newborn son, Victor, who was born just a few months ago. Perhaps Victor will follow in his father’s footsteps. Only time will tell.
