INTRODUCTION TO THE NORTHERN REGIONAL CONSTRUCTION ASSOCIATION Northern British Columbia is a vast and unique area with a wealth of the province’s natural resources. Distance, geography and weather contribute to the distinctness of the region.

Northern Regional Construction Association is dedicated to the promotion of construction investment, standard practices and high standards in the construction industry. The Association speaks on behalf of all sectors of the industry on construction concerns with government, design and tendering authorities and the public.

NRCA is committed to the principle that industry participants share a common interest and believes that united action will provide benefits to the construction industry and the economy. Membership in the Association is open to any firm that either directly or indirectly engages in construction and to any firm that manufactures or supplies goods or services to the construction industry.

From its regional office located in the traditional grounds of Lheidli T’enneh First Nation in Prince George, NRCA delivers services throughout the north to members located within Bulkley Valley, Peace Country, Cariboo-Chilcotin, Skeena Bulkley Valley, Stikine, North Coast and Haida Gwaii.

NRCA ADVERTISING SERVICES Do you know all the ways you can advertise through NRCA? The NRCA Membership Directory and Buyers’ Guide has a publication of 1,200 copies, which are distributed to member firms, local associations and buyers of your construction services. This is published once a year.

NorthWORKS magazine is the official publication of the Northern Regional Construction Association and is published once a year. Two-thousand copies are distributed to member firms, potential members, the design community, government officials and public and private construction buyers.

NRCA also produces a monthly newsletter, The Northern Construction Connection, which has space available for member advertisements and company profiles.

Additionally, our new website and the NRCA job board have room for advertising.

MESSAGE FROM THE NRCA CEO

The Northern Regional Construction Association was looking forward to celebrating many things in 2020 and 2021; however, our industry, like so many, was affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. In our 50-plus years in the northern region of British Columbia as the voice of the construction industry, we’ve never encountered anything like COVID-19.

Indeed, it seems that amidst the pandemic, our members and community leaders adapted through difficult times to ensure safety of their workers and meeting the continued need of construction activities.

As an organization, we continue to build on the strengths of our partnerships to further inspiration, support and resilience. As we all navigate the uncertain future brought on by COVID-19, there is one thing we know with certainty – our collective focus remains on the key issues impacting the construction industry.

To that end, it’s been important that we keep our attention on long-term planning and innovation that provide the construction industry a sense of steadiness and pride, and we continually focus our ongoing efforts in NRCA to boost advocacy on key issues, such as prompt payment and consistent, fair and open bidding practices in the public sector.

Construction procurement in B.C. continues to shift to the activity of pursuing strategic opportunities for a business or organization, identifying new markets for products or services or cultivating partnerships with others. The new BidCentral platform implemented in mid-2020 continues to support immediate access to public and private projects throughout B.C. In B.C., the level of public sector projects underway coupled with proposed projects is valued at $125BN, and the major projects in Northern B.C. account for $57BN or 42 per cent of that total. The construction and operations of the major projects, such as LNG Canada, Site C Dam and Coastal Gaslink, continually to generally significant economic and social benefits through out Northern B.C. through job creation, economic development and ancillary infrastructure to support the demand of workers in the region.

Your professional team at the NRCA office continues to serve you well, and to provide the much-needed services and programs for members as possible to ensure we got it right.

Thank you to our members and partners for their continued support and desire to engage in their association. As we look to the end of a long and difficult time in our lives, it is important to remain vigilant and safe.

Our board of directors and CEO continue to focus the key issues, like prompt payment, as we feel that all contractors and suppliers must be paid on time. We look forward to our continued partnership with our industry partners to advocate our provincial elected officials to make “prompt payment” legislation a priority in 2021.

It is with great pleasure to serve as a director on the BC Construction Association and currently as the chair of the Northern Regional Construction Association.

Northern Industries Innovation Fund FUNDING PROGRAM
