Matt Oplinger ’14 is Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year

Tommy Muratore ’12 Signs With Quad City Mallards On March 22, Tommy Muratore ’12 signed with the Quad City Mallards, the ECHL affiliate of the NHL Vegas Golden Knights. Muratore made his pro debut with the Mallards after completing his senior season with the D-1 Men’s Hockey team at College of the Holy Cross.

Tommy Davis ’12: Not a Typical D-I Hockey Player A Princeton degree, a wife and two daughters...”Providence College’s Tommy Davis ’12 is not your typical Division I hockey player...” began a Providence Journal feature that appeared last September about the former Green Wave hockey player. Davis earned a history degree from Princeton University, where he played 97 games on defense, and graduated eligible to play another year due to a freshman year injury that kept him off the ice. He is currently a graduate student working toward an MBA at Providence College. Davis also is a husband and a father. He and his wife, Annabeth Donovan – who played to a first-team All-Ivy Princeton field hockey nod in 2013 – have two daughters, Esme, age 2 and Adeline, age 1.

Yale Senior linebacker Matthew Oplinger ’14, was named Asa S. Bushnell Cup recipient as the Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year. Oplinger was the leader and most dominant player on the league’s top defensive team, ranked 8th in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) with just over 15 points allowed per game. He also led the Ancient Eight and was second in the country in sacks this season with 11.5. “This is a team award,” said Oplinger, the third Yale defensive player to hold the Bushnell Cup. “I am just one eleventh of the unit.” His former Green Wave Brian Bowers said, “His attitude and passion are infectious to those around him, and there is no doubt his leadership played a major role in Yale’s championship football season. Matt is truly deserving of such an outstanding honor!” In May, Matt headed to the Arizona Cardinals Rookie Minicamp, having earned an official NFL invitation.
