Preparing Your Home For Photography

This guide was created to help you prepare your home so that every detail, texture, and space is captured at its best. Together, we’ll ensure your property stands out with imagery that commands attention and tells a compelling story.

General Preparation

☐ Deep clean the entire home: Floors, baseboards, windows, and surfaces.

☐ Remove clutter and excess décor from all rooms.

☐ Hide cords, remotes, and personal items.

☐ Remove personal photos, paperwork, and visible valuables.

☐ Replace burnt-out bulbs; use matching light temperatures throughout.

☐ Open blinds and drapes to bring in natural light.

☐ Turn on all lights for even brightness.

☐ Straighten rugs and furniture for balanced visuals.

☐ Tidy the entryway: Remove shoes, mail, and clutter.

Kitchen

☐ Clear countertops of all items except one or two decorative pieces.

☐ Wipe all surfaces, especially stainless steel and glass.

☐ Remove dish racks, magnets, and notes from the refrigerator.

☐ Hide trash cans, pet bowls, and cleaning supplies.

☐ Align stools or chairs neatly at the island or table.

☐ Add a bowl of fruit or fresh flowers for a natural accent.

☐ Remove floor mats and hanging dishtowels.

Living & Common Areas

☐ Fluff pillows, smooth throws, and align furniture

☐ Minimize items on coffee tables and shelves.

☐ Conceal cords, remotes, and everyday clutter.

☐ Remove excess décor to keep focus on architecture and space.

☐ Add a touch of greenery or fresh flowers for warmth.

Bedrooms

☐ Make all beds neatly with coordinated bedding.

☐ Remove items from nightstands except lamps or a small accent piece.

☐ Store away clothing, hampers, and personal items.

☐ Keep closet doors closed.

☐ Straighten curtains, rugs, and artwork.

Bathrooms

☐ Clear counters and showers of all toiletries and personal items.

☐ Remove bath mats. Close toilet lids.

☐ Hang clean, neatly folded towels.

☐ Polish mirrors, faucets, and glass.

☐ Hide trash cans and cleaning tools.

Exterior & Outdoor Spaces

☐ Sweep patios, porches, and walkways.

☐ Hide hoses, trash cans, and yard tools.

☐ Arrange outdoor furniture neatly with cushions in place.

☐ Mow the lawn, trim plants, and remove debris.

☐ Clean pool, spa, and any water features.

Pets

☐ Remove pet beds, bowls, litter boxes, and toys.

☐ Ensure pets are off-site during the shoot if possible.

☐ Clean up fur and pet marks.

☐ Tidy any outdoor areas used by pets.

Day of the Shoot

☐ Open all interior doors for visual flow.

☐ Turn off ceiling fans, TVs, and screens.

☐ Hide vehicles from driveway and curbside.

☐ Double-check all lights are on and blinds are open

☐ Turn on water/fire features, pool and landscape lighting.

☐ Do one final walkthrough with your agent or photographer.
