Now,Iknowthatinthesecases,traditionallymalepronounswereusedtorepresentall membersofagroup,regardlessofgender Thespeakerhadnointentionofoffending anyone

However,“traditional”istricky.Onecouldarguethattraditionally,womendidn’thaveareal voiceinbusinessanyway,orthattraditionally,menwerethebreadwinners*.Theproblemis that“traditions”aresafe-havenswhereunconsciousbiasthrives Andactionsfollowwords

Soifwewanttochangeorganizationalbehaviorandactions,weneedtochange organizationallanguage

Here’smychallenge:Iwantorganizationalleaderstoslashbiasedlanguagefromtheir vocabulariesstartingnow BelowisalistofwordsthatIcommonlyhearleadersuse,along withnon-biasedalternativeterms Let’sallmakeacommitmenttogethertoeliminatethese basicbiasedwordsfromourvocabularytoday Itwilltakepracticetomakethehabitstick, yetitwillmakeahugedifferenceinorganizationalinclusiveness
