The classic by Linke, Nussbaumer, and Portmann has been completely revised to reflect the latest research and expanded with new content (on cultural and discourse linguistics and empirical methods). Volume 1 on contemporary language will be available from July 2025 and will also be available as a practical eBook for the first time. A second volume on historical linguistics is currently in preparation. The goal of this volume is to explore language use in the eighteenth century, providing access to the people, discourses, and contexts of a bygone century. This book investigates Old Spanish and Old Portuguese bare partitives (‘take of the X’), frequently attested until the 16th century. Based on an analysis of more than 6,000 tokens, it shows that such nominals contain representative object supersets that are headed by non-maximal definite articles with type readings. In der Mathematik stammen viele Fachwörter aus der Gemeinsprache. Deshalb liegt es nahe als Hilfsmittel beim Arbeiten mit fremdsprachlichen Texten gemeinsprachliche Wörterbücher zu nutzen. Diese decken aber oft nicht die mathematischen Lesarten eines Worts ab. Auch didaktisch evaluierte Fachwörterbücher gibt es für die Mathematik bisher nicht. Hier wird daher ein Prototyp für ein e-Wörterbuch der Mathematik entwickelt und evaluiert.

A lot of technical terms in mathematics come from standard language, which is why it makes sense to use general dictionaries when working with foreign-language texts. However, these dictionaries often do not cover the specific mathematical meaning of words. Moreover, no didactically evaluated technical dictionaries exist for mathematics. This project develops and evaluates a prototype for an e-dictionary of mathematics.

Smart speakers – stationary language assistance systems like Alexa and Google Home – can be controlled verbally through voice inputs and outputs. In addition, they deploy voice user interfaces (VUIs). This study sheds light on VUIs from the perspective of media and conversation linguistics. It begins by analyzing linguistic practices from dyadic dialogues with VUIs, before examining VUIs in multiparty interactions.
