tion (Sports Management) and a Minor in Marketing. Before joining Southwest Airlines, he worked for the Frisco RoughRiders, a Texas Rangers Minor League Affiliate, and also worked for the Dallas Mavericks. Garrett left the sports world to join the aviation industry about six years ago and has been with Southwest Airlines ever since. He is excited to join the NDTA Board of Directors and looks forward to developing the Young Leaders Program to attract folks in the logistics and transportation enterprise.

We have also added a Bus Committee under the Government Passenger Travel Advisory Council (GPTAC), established thanks to the initiative of Lt Col Donna Johnson, USAF (Ret.), Chair, NDTA Chapter Support & Membership Development Committee. Ms. Andrea (Andi) Davis, Vice President of Beltway Transportation, and Ms. Lauren Gibson-Hartman, President/CEO and Managing Director, StarForce National Inc., have been sworn in as the Chair and Vice Chair of the Bus Committee. It is amazing to see how many bus companies are used to move troops and other service members around the country.

Regarding the NDTA staff, Ms. Patty Casidy, our VP of Finance, recently retired. Ms. Claudia Ernst has taken her place on the NDTA staff. Claudia has an MBA from Wharton, so we are grateful to have her on board. We will miss Patty and as many of you know, she is our catalyst for our participation in USMC’s Toys for Tots Program.

In terms of our educational programs, Mr. Irv Varkonyi, who manages the Transportation Academy and Travel Academy will be replaced by Ms. Pamelyn Lindsey. In the near future, Pamelyn will be arranging for instructors and pulling together these programs that have become so important to the NDTA educational fabric.

In this Almanac edition of the DTJ we always emphasize the importance of relationships. I want to thank our industry members for their involvement in NDTA and for the many ways in which they are involved. They serve on committees, and in other venues that highlight the importance of the logistics and transportation enterprise, as well as the value that is delivered to DOD and the government by industry. COVID has increased our dialog with key DOD and government stakeholders. The collaboration has been a positive outcome of the pandemic—and is something we definitely want to maintain. Please give me a call or send me a note if I—or anyone on the NDTA staff—can be of any assistance to you. DTJ
