Residents are strongly encouraged to maintain a 72-hour emergency supply of water, non-perishable food, and medicine for each member of their household, including pets. Reserves should be built in advance of an emergency to ensure provisions are available as stores run out of supplies in the days leading up to a major weather event or other emergency. Sufficient resources may not be immediately available to assist everyone negatively impacted by a disaster. Self-sufficiency for a minimum of 3 days is a consistent recommendation from all levels of government, with encouragement to store these items for longer periods. A 72 hour amount of stock will assist your household with bridging the supply gap between the time a disaster occurs and the time additional resources arrive. Visit www.ready.gov/kit for more information about emergency supplies that should be kept on hand.

PowerOutageTracker–TCSBass

9-1-1 should not be called to report a power outage unless the loss of electricity has resulted in an emergency. The police department's dispatch center is overwhelmed with calls when the electricity goes out, but does not have any more information about power restoration than is given to the public by service providers. Please contact your service provider directly about power restoration or refer to CenterPoint’s power outage tracker at http://gis.centerpointenergy.com/outagetracker/. Contacting power providers directly will assist with keeping 9-1-1 lines free for true emergencies, and keep our public safety dispatchers focused on handling emergency calls

EmergencySirens–TCSBass

The City of Deer Park tests its sirens every Saturday at noon. The sound of the siren is the same for an emergency as it is for the test, but the siren will sound longer during an emergency. Sirens are set off for Shelter in Place and Tornadoes. There is no public address (PA) system on the sirens. The city will not attempt to communicate a verbal message to the citizens via a siren speaker. Citizens should monitor city websites and social media accounts, watch local news, and enroll in the city's emergency notification system (CodeRED) for ongoing updates during an emergency. Sign up for CodeRED notifications at http://www.deerparktx.gov/338/EmergencyNotifications.

CAEROnline–TCSBass

The Community Awareness Emergency Response (CAER) Online website contains information about industrial accidents and planned events. Community members are encouraged to visit www.ehcma.org/public-safety/caeronline/ for updates about flaring, chemical releases, alarm testing and other refinery related activity.

Pool Safety – TCS Bass & Sheila Plovanich, Community Liaison

According to www.poolsafety.gov, drowning is the leading cause of unintentional death in children aged 1 - 4 years of age. This website provides tips, tool kits and pledges to help reduce drownings.

• Designate a water watcher every single time children in your care are swimming or near water. Never leave children unattended. If a child is missing, check the pool first.

• Keep a charged phone close by at all times.

• Make sure you know how to swim and the kids do, too.

• Teach children to stay away from drains.

• As a parent or guardian, learn CPR. Know how to perform CPR on adults and children. Learn the basics of life-saving so you can assist in a pool emergency.

• Keep lifesaving equipment such as life rings or reaching poles available.

• Always remove portable pool ladders when not in use.

• Ensure all permanent pools have a proper fence, gate, and/or barrier, cover, alarm and safe drain covers.

Install a fence of at least four feet in height around the pool perimeter. Use selflatching and closing gates

Install an alarm on the door leading from the house to the pool and use child safe locks on all doors so children cannot slip outside unseen.
