Sports & Athletics - Tennis, Racquetball, Pickleball, More Tennis at Sachs Recreation Center Two air-conditioned tennis courts are available for rental to the general public when they are not being used for lessons or other programs. Residents may reserve court time up to seven days in advance. Non-residents may reserve courts 48 hours in advance. Court time must be paid for at time of reservation. If a reservation is cancelled 24 hours or more prior to the scheduled court time, the fee will be refunded. If the reservation is cancelled within 24 hours of the scheduled court time, no refund will be given. All cancellations must be done by speaking with a front desk staff member. Voice mail, email, or faxes are not acceptable. Courts may be obtained on a walk-on basis when available.

Pickleball (for 50+ crowd) Learn the fastest growing racket sport in America! Pickleball combines tennis, badminton and ping pong for a fun game played on a badminton court with the net lowered to 34ȩ at the center. It is played with a perforated plastic baseball and paddles. Pickleball is easy for beginners to learn, but can develop into a fast-paced, competitive game for experienced players. Equipment is provided. Winter/Day Camp 2012

Dana Joseph and Chris Cabanban of First Serve Management and their team of instructors provide tennis services at the Sachs Recreation Center indoor courts and at the Deerfield Park District’s outdoor courts. The mission of First Serve Management is to nurture the love of the game of tennis. First Serve Management offers family-friendly programming that encourages students to play the sport for a lifetime and provides a path to pursue the level they wish to attain. From beginning recreational players looking for fitness and fun to tournament competitors, instructors understand that people of all ages play tennis for different reasons. They believe tennis brings people together –families, friends and new acquaintances– who then become friends through tennis. The quality and experience of their teaching distinguishes First Serve Management from their peers. Their entire staff is certified by either the USPTA or the USPTR and is constant from the start of a lesson session to the end. NOTE: All Winter Classes at SRC

Youth Class Descriptions Little Netters (Ages 4-5) Netters (Ages 5-6) Youngsters are introduced to the world of tennis in this basic skills class. Movement and tracking skills are taught. Emphasis is on having fun and establishing a positive tennis experience.

Half Volleys 1 (Ages 6-7) Half Volleys 2 (Ages 8-9) Beginners increase their net performance as they continue to learn tennis fundamentals. This class helps students enhance motor and racquet skills, while still allowing them to enjoy the game.

Baseliners 1 (Ages 9-11) Baseliners 2 (Ages 11-12) Students continue to develop their game, while refining their basic skills. Using situational drills and games, this class helps students establish a solid foundation for future development and incorporates strategy to help them build a lifelong love of tennis.

Excellence (Ages 11+) Experienced young athletes take a swing at understanding tennis strategies and how they are implemented in match play. Students learn to focus on their power, stamina, agility and accuracy to improve their performance. This class is for students with tennis experience.
