The aim is to design a net-zero student hostel and faculty housing with required amenities , respective design decisions were made by following the griha manual , ECBC , bye-laws , passive strategies.

"Vansarthika - A Sustainable Community Housing Project"

The aim through 'Vansarthika' was to attempt a redevelopment project without social uprooting of its residents, and creating an ecosystem that was not just architecturally sustainable, but would use vernacular building material and technology, developed under existing political housing schemes. Through the design, we hoped to preserve the community, empower the community. and inculcate socio-economic sustainability as well.

The aim was to design a cafe which defines and gives the goan vibe from the materials to design , a comfortable and easily accessible cafe for every need.

BACK ENTRY TO KITCHEN ( used for loading and unloading things. ADJACENT PROPERTY

ENTRY FROM THE RESORT

● Two entries were provided for easy access from the beach and resort.

● One way from kitchen to unload the waste from back.

● A retail shop is provided to sell snacks , swim costumes and locker facility.

● One washroom with ramp has been provided at ground level contour for universal access , another one for easy access to the ones on top.

● Shower has been provided as they enter from the beach to cafe.

● Indoor and outdoor seating has been provided.

● Orientation has been taken in mind while designing the cafe.

Vernacular Materials

Climate Study

The chief building materials involved in a typical Goan house is all about going vernacular. Laterite and stone are widely used and locally available. For ornamentation purposes, mother of pearl is used on window linings. Wood is one material you’ll see in abundance.

Key features

•It has uniform temperature throughout the year

• the summers have a maximum temperature around 35 ⁰C ,while the minimum temperature is below 20⁰C in winters

•Average temperature of the place is around 27⁰C.

• It gets a lot of driving another

"Sakshi - A Vernacular Housing Project" Malkaram , Telangana

The aim through 'Sakshi' was to design a home using vernacular building materials and techniques . The family consists of a grandfather , father , mother and two children , the house was designed in a way that the residents of the house aren't taken away from the village and its roots yet stay close to the contemporary times.

The site can be access from three ways

Used to save rain water underground , this was placed in the courtyard of a house.

SITE ( Malkaram , Telangana ) AREA : 830 sqm ( 36m X 23m )

This were used to save water for regular usage.

Stone flooring

There is Granite flooring in front of some of the houses.

A rectangular depth was made to grow plants in the courtyard.

The site is exactly in between vernacular and contemporary houses , the concept of the design is to show the transition between the two types .
