A branch of the Delaware Department of State, the Division is dedicated to cultivating and supporting the arts to enhance the quality of life for all Delawareans. Together with its advisory body, the Delaware State Arts Council, the Division administers grants and programs that support arts programming, educate the public, increase awareness of the arts, and integrate the arts into all facets of Delaware life.

The Arts Summit brings Delaware’s arts community together for a day of speakers, workshops, performances, and networking.

DelawareScene.com is a free online arts and cultural events calendar with

events in Delaware and within 25 miles of its borders. It also includes a special section for Arts and Job Opportunities from Delaware and select states.

Delaware’s Poet Laureate is an honorary position appointed by and serving at the pleasure of the Governor. The Poet Laureate serves as an advocate, educator, and presenter of poetry throughout the state. The Poet Laureate is available to attend or speak at an event based on the nature of the event, and the availability of funding for their time.

Delaware State of the Arts Podcast is a weekly podcast that presents

interviews with arts organizations and leaders who contribute to the cultural vibrancy of communities throughout Delaware. The podcast is created in partnership with NEWSRADIO 1450 WILM and 1410 WDOV.

Delaware State Employee Art Exhibition is a free, annual exhibition that showcases the work of

state employees and their immediate family members. Artists at all skill levels have the unique opportunity to exhibit their creative work and compete for cash prizes.

Governor’s Awards for the Arts began in 1970 to honor Delaware individuals and organizations that have had a profound and lasting impact on the state’s artistic and cultural life.

Mezzanine Gallery, located in the Carvel State Office Building in Wilmington, features one-person

exhibitions of Delaware artists in disciplines including painting, photography, sculpture, crafts, folk, and media arts. The Gallery is free and open to the public. Opening receptions are held the first Friday of the month from 5 to 7 p.m. Dates are subject to change.

Artist Fellowships: Support of individual artists in their work as visual, Artist Opportunity: Grants provide up to $750 to support individual

artists with unique professional and artistic development or presentation opportunities.

Writers Retreat is a low-cost, multi-day retreat, held in even years, that

education projects, programs, and activities that utilize the arts education resources of the Delaware arts community or support arts organizations’ capacity to serve as professional development resources for teaching artists and educators.

CBOs that assist in the growth of a vibrant cultural environment by encouraging the continued development of arts activities in communities throughout the state.

Arts Access: Supports small budget projects that include the presentation of performing, visual, literary, media, or folk arts in communities throughout the state.

Artist Residency: Grants for residencies with visual, literary, performing or media artists working with students in the classroom or in professional development workshops with teachers.

Education Resource: Grants to strengthen standards-based arts

education projects, programs, and activities that utilize the arts education resources of the Delaware arts community or support arts organizations’ capacity to serve as professional development resources for teaching artists and educators.

TranspARTation: Grants that support transportation costs for schools to travel to Delaware arts and cultural institutions and venues for students to attend arts performances, events, and exhibits.

Poetry Out Loud is a national arts education competition that encourages the study of poetry through memorization and recitation. The program is offered in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts, the Poetry Foundation, and the Division of the Arts.
