Andrew Bingham Managing Director
Decora is proud to introduce a new leadership era as Andrew Bingham steps into the role of Managing Director and David Kent joins as Sales Director. This transition marks a strategic evolution for the business, moving beyond its family-run roots under the Dickson family to embrace a forward-thinking vision. With a wealth of industry expertise and a dynamic, customer-focused outlook, both leaders are poised to guide Decora into its next phase of innovation and growth.
In this issue of The View, Andrew and David share their thoughts, direction and ambitions for Decora offering insight into the future of the business and what it means for our valued customers.
With over 10 years at Decora, Andrew brings extensive industry knowledge. He’s focused on building strong teams, customerdriven strategies and sustainable growth through innovation.
What first attracted you to the industry and to Decora as a business?
Like many reading this, window coverings wasn’t on my “What do you want to do when you grow up?” list! At the time, it was the attraction of a graduate opportunity, and I grew up in a house where my Dad worked for another local manufacturing company so I was familiar with that environment and the textiles industry.
In your role as MD, what is the biggest opportunity for Decora moving forward?
Decora sits in a unique position where it can trade with our customers on a wholesale basis, supply manufactured blinds or a hybrid of both. There has been
significant investment in the business over the last 18 months in product and systems with a clear focus on supporting our trade customers and creating opportunities for them to grow their businesses.
Which decisions or strategies do you believe will have the greatest impact on Decora’s growth in the coming years?
In Decora, we have great people right across the business. By continuing to develop our teams and keeping customers central to our decisions, we aim to deliver the best service and quality. As part of the Mzuri Group, we’ll keep leveraging shared expertise to enhance our systems, product design and ways of working.
From your perspective, what has shaped Decora’s evolution into the brand it is today?
Various areas have shaped Decora and are ingrained in our culture and brand. A strong team and committed employees are at the heart of everything we do.
Over the years, clear reinvestment into the business, especially in product, has built the portfolio we have today. Across marketing, product, and technical teams, attention to detail from concept to completion gives our products the look, feel and quality our trade customers expect from Decora.
What drives you personally, and what continues to motivate you professionally?
For anyone that knows me, my personality is one of “All In” for everything I do. I continually have a drive to be better and ensure that anything I am part of moves forward with purpose. From a professional perspective, I have been entrusted with this new role in Decora and my motivation is to add value across the business and help it progress on the next stage of its journey.
Are there any upcoming products, service improvements, or innovations customers can look forward to?
It’s been a busy 12 months for product launches, including the latest Fabric BoxTM Roller & Vertical collection, our new Cruze® Pleated & Cellular System with FITtoFRAMETM, Cruze® Roller System, additions to the growing Hampton shutter range and the blinds and Curtains collection. Without revealing too much, customers should keep an eye on the Cruze® brand as we continue to expand and further expansion into the soft cloth market!
“By
continuing to develop our teams and keeping customers central to our decisions, we aim to deliver the best service and quality.”
OPERATION WITH A CLEAR MISSION:
ENSURE DECORA REMAINS THE UK’S NUMBER ONE TRADE SUPPLIER, DELIVERING EXCEPTIONAL VALUE AND SERVICE TO ITS PARTNERS.
With over 35 years in window coverings, David is known for his drive and dedication. He aims to enhance the customer experience and keep Decora as the UK’s leading trade supplier.
What are your key priorities for Decora moving forward?
We will continue to explore new ways to innovate within the market, whether through product development, enhanced services, or advanced technology. Our focus is on making our customers’ lives as simple as possible and ensuring that working with Decora is always straightforward, rewarding and efficient. Our goal is to become the go-to choice in the industry, a partner so reliable and forwardthinking that customers wouldn’t consider going anywhere else. We aim to be front and centre in the market, confidently setting the standard others aspire to.
In your view, which of Decora’s strengths stand out most in today’s market, and how do you see them evolving?
Our greatest strength is the scale of the business, but also the ability to be agile and adapt quickly to the needs of our customers. Our manufacturing capabilities are staggering. Customers love the fact that they can get products quickly. This is key in a market which is moving increasingly towards quick turnaround products. We have seen a significant transition in shutters. Historically, customers were prepared to wait 12 weeks for shutters. However, we are seeing greater demand for our UK made short lead time product.
I believe the appetite for getting products more quickly will continue. The great thing for me is that we have the infrastructure already in place to continue to meet this demand.
How do you ensure customer needs remain central to key business decisions?
It is important that we continue to listen to our customers. We are lucky to have customers from all parts of the industry, whether that be independent retailers, multi-channel retailers, customers who trade online and those that manufacture products using our wholesale service. The great thing about Decora is that we are able to attain feedback from all of the key sectors in the industry. This provides us with an excellent opportunity to ensure that our business provides the right products and services to keep Decora at the forefront of the industry. It is vital that we continue to act on input and keep developing great products, supported by market leading service.
Can you share one of the most defining or proudest moments in your career so far?
I have been in the industry for over 35 years, I left school without any qualifications and fortunately I managed to get a role on a youth training scheme with a local blinds company in Nottingham (Hillarys). I guess it is all I have known. I feel extremely fortunate to have met some amazing people in that
time, and through a lot of hard work and determination, I have managed to enjoy a long career in blinds! I guess the most recent defining moment was a message out of the blue, asking if I would be interested in a conversation about a sales role at Tropical Blinds back in February 2023.
Thankfully, I got the job and made the decision to return to the industry. Without that message or my experience at Tropical, I wouldn’t be at Decora today. I’ll always be thankful for my time there and for working with such an incredible team.
Looking to the future, what are you most excited about when it comes to Decora’s direction?
The journey! Decora has an incredibly successful past and I’m proud to be part of the team that can build a really successful future.
“I want to harness Decora’s scale to stay industry leaders. With the right people, technology, and innovation, we must keep striving to be best in class.”
