DeBordieu Boulevard

How to Navigate the Pedestrian Path The first two phases of work along DeBordieu Boulevard were completed in early May. The pedestrian path is located on either side of the median, and is able to accommodate golf carts, bicyclists, pedestrians, and the like. While common sense and the golden rule should prevail, here are some suggested tips for using the pedestrian path: • Those using the pedestrian path should follow traffic. The graphics on the path will indicate the appropriate direction; • Allow faster traffic to pass you. Pedestrians should allow golf carts to pass, slower walkers should move over to let bikes and runners pass, etc. • Please do not park or dump yard debris on the newly landscaped median. • Use caution and good judgment as you navigate the path.

Memorial Day weekend marks the start of the summer season in DeBordieu Colony. Along with the beautiful weather comes an influx of guests, renters, and wildlife activity. Here are some tips that will help everyone stay safe while enjoying our beautiful community. Share the road Be aware and share the road! Whether you are on two wheels or four, there is plenty of room for everyone to travel safely in DeBordieu Colony. • • • •

Pedestrians are encouraged to walk, jog, or operate golf carts on the pedestrian paths. Bicycles and Golf Carts traveling on roads have the same rights and responsibilities as any other vehicle driver and should travel in the right-hand lane. Pedestrians should always stay to the left-hand side of the road so they can be aware of approaching traffic. Please reduce your speed and be cautious while passing bicyclists/ golf carts/pedestrians.

Golf Carts • SC law requires golf cart operators to have in their possession a valid driver license, and be at least 16yrs old. Parents please do not allow your underage children to operate a golf cart. • Operation of golf carts is limited to daylight hours only. • Be mindful of all traffic signs and stop/yield where posted. Wildlife We share our beautiful community with an abundance of wildlife. To maintain the safety of our residents and visitors, as well as that of the wildlife, please keep the following in mind: • Alligators: • Do not feed or harass alligators. A FED ALLIGATOR IS A DEAD ALLIGATOR • Do not throw fish scraps, chicken necks or bait into ponds when fishing or crabbing. • Alligators are not relocated - they are destroyed. • Surf Fishing: • Do not fish in populated areas. • If you want to swim, avoid waters being fished or those with lots of bait fishes.
