Board Approves Dry Storage Policy and Agreement The DCCA Board approved a revised dry storage policy and agreement at its January meeting. The revision was in response to members’ requests to improve the layout and usage of the dry storage areas. Boat Storage 3 and 4 are located on Firehouse Street and Boat Storage 1 and 2 are located on Construction Road. This is the first revision to the policy and agreement which was originally adopted in 2007 when the dry storage agreement was first implemented.

• • •

Owners must be current in assessments and/or fines with the DCCA;

The new layout features larger lots for ease of parking and navigation, as well as to insure maximum use of space. The spaces have also been increased to accommodate trailers, and are now available in two sizes Small (up to 26-ft.) and Large (26-ft. and larger). Additionally, the spaces will be identified by numbered curb markers to facilitate parking in the correct spot.

• Spaces are forfeited once DeBordieu property is sold.

A change in the rental agreement includes paying a small annual fee for the storage facility. Spots at Dry Storage “A” (Firehouse Street location) will be $200/yr. and a space in Dry Storage “B” (Construction Road location) will be $100/yr. Additional amenities available at the Firehouse property will include additional lighting, and automatic gate openers via a RFID tag reader. Both lots will have clearly designated and delineated spaces. Temporary spaces will be made available for up to 30-days for a minimum weekly fee of $20. Funds raised as a result of these fees will be used to offset the expenses associated with lighting, installation of the automatic gate openers, etc.

• Owner may store one of the following in the space provided that the size of the item stored fits within the space: non commercial trailer, recreational vehicle or one boat on a trailer.

The updated policy allows for temporary storage of 30 days or less to accommodate owners and guests who bring their boats. Some of the other changes include:

If you are interested in leasing a space, please contact Amanda Elliott (843.527.4436). Spaces are available on a first-come, firstserved basis.

An owner on the waiting list has 10 days from the date of notification that a space is available to accept the space or forfeit his/her rights to use such space. Multiple owners of a single DeBordieu property may share a single space. Otherwise, spaces may not be shared.

• Temporary spaces are valid for no more than 30 days. • Payment of fees are required when a space is assigned and WILL NOT be refunded for any reason.

• Any property stored must be in good working order, properly registered with the DCCA and any applicable authorities. The full policy and lease agreement are available on the DeBordieu Colony Community website (www.debordieucolony.org). Notification letters are being sent to all owners who have property in the storage areas, as well as those on the waiting list. The new policy and agreement are being implemented as of March 1, 2018.

AROUND THE COLONY DeBordieu Colony Home & Garden Club donates Funds to Tara Hall

Tara Hall, a Georgetown County non-profit, was the appreciative recipient of a $4000 donation from the DeBordieu Home & Garden Club. The club designated Tara Hall as its beneficiary for its holiday fundraiser, which consisted of a dinner and raffle called “Fill Your Stocking and Tara Hall’s Too.” Tara Hall began in 1969 and more than 600 boys from Georgetown and surrounding communities have passed through its doors. The school’s mission is to accept “neglected, troubled and abused boys, in an effective, Christ-centered, long-term residential school that develops moral, social, educational and life skills, thus building responsible contributing adults, while providing services to their families.” Each year we choose a local charity to be the recipient of funds raised at one of our events. Those events have included Christmas Homes Tours, Fashion Shows, and this year the Dinner and Raffle. “Our members are committed to supporting the many needs we see in our community,” said Becky Mann, DeBordieu Home & Garden Club Co-chairman. “We are honored to give back,” she added.

DeBordieu Beach Permit Progress Report The DeBordieu beach nourishment/groin permit application was submitted to the state and federal regulatory agencies in midNovember. The permit was then put out on public notice for comments with the comment period ending in late December. Letters received by the US Army Corps of Engineers are then provided to CSE, the DCCA consulting engineer, for answers to questions and comments. The permitting process is expected to take several years.

Presentation of funds. Tom Shortt, Sassy Tugwell and Jane Lott of the DeBordieu Garden Club present a check to John Kenny, Board Chair of the Tara Hall Homes for Boys.

Firewise Update Thank you to all who participated in the 2017 Firewise Event – ‘Good Neighbor Underbrush Program’. A total of 12 lots were underbrushed this year even amid the complications of Hurricane Irma. This brings the total number of lots underbrushed during this annual event to 37 since its inception in 2015. Relative to the storm, the ARB thanks all lot owners who willingly responded to ARB Administration letters requesting removal of fallen, hazardous trees and limbs. Please call the ARB office for lot underbrushing, clean-up, leaning or fallen tree removal, upturned root or stump removal, information and permitting policies.
