Northeast Florida Scholastic Art Awards February 13, 2021 Premiere

Meet Mike Wimmer, our 2021 NEFSAA Keynote: Mike Wimmer was born in Muskogee, OK and received his BFA from the University of Oklahoma and had the opportunity to study with Don Punchatz at The Sketch Pad Studio in Arlington, TX. Mike Later completed his MFA at the University of Hartford in Hartford, CT. Mike is Professor of Illustration at Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) in Savannah, GA and formerly served as the Distinguished Visiting Artist at the School of Visual Arts in the Petree College of Arts and Sciences at Oklahoma City University. He maintains his studio in Savannah, GA with his wife Jime. Together they have 4 children and two grandchildren.

Mike has been featured in an Emmy Award winning production of the television series “Gallery” which runs on OETA. He has produced artwork for some of the largest corporations in the world, including Disney, Proctor and gamble. RJR Nabisco, Kimberly Clark, and has had the honor of painting the portraits of some of America’s most prestigious citizens.

His work has recently been seen on packages of Celestial Seasons Teas, and has painted some 300 covers for almost every major publisher in the United States.

Mike’s goals have remarkably stayed the same throughout his career: “The details help tell the story.” The details are not only found in his paintings, but in his life as a teacher, a husband and a father. These goals are wrapped up in his personal motto; “Learn It, Live It, and Teach It.”

The Northeast Florida Art Education Association is the proud parent organization of the Northeast Florida Scholastic Art Awards. Since 2009, we have been a regional affiliate, representing students from Baker, Clay, Duval, Flagler, Nassau, St. Johns, Union, and Volusia Counties. Our regional program provides a venue for the celebration of our most creative youth.

The works of our Gold Key winners will progress to national adjudication where their work can earn national recognition. National medal winners are recognized and celebrated by the National Scholastic Headquarters. National notification day is Wednesday, March 17th!

A huge part of these awards is being able to offer opportunities for students to continue their visual art studies beyond high school.

Through partnerships with colleges and universities with strong visual art programs, we are able to offer scholarships to our award winning student artists.

Through Red Coat Grants, The Players Championship gives back to the community in an effort to improve the quality of life for families and individuals and to make a positive difference in the lives of those who live in northeast Florida. This year, NEFAEA was awarded a Red Coat Grant for arts education in NE FL. We are proud to be able to support art education and the work of art students and educators in northeast Florida!
