This year's alumni speaker is Dr. Cedric Shorter, renowned neurosurgeon with a specialty in complex cranial procedures and 2012 graduate of the LSU Health Shreveport Neurosurgery Residency Program. Dr. Shorter has a passion for treating complex cranial pathology. He sees and treats a variety of brain tumors and pituitary tumors along with compressive nerve syndromes, such as trigeminal neuralgia. He has also treated numerous cerebral vascular conditions such as cerebral aneurysms and arteriovenous malformations (AVMs). Dr. Shorter graduated with a degree in Biology from Northwestern State University in Louisiana in 1997. He went on to receive an additional degree in Biochemistry from Louisiana State University in 2000. In 2005, Dr. Shorter received his medical degree from LSU Health Shreveport, and completed his Neurosurgery residency at LSU Health Shreveport in 2012. After his residency, he went on to complete a fellowship in Skull Base/Cerebrovascular surgery at Goodman Campbell Brain and Spine in Indianapolis under the mentorship of Dr. Troy Payner in 2013. He is an active member of the American Association of Neurosurgeons (AANS), Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS), and the North American Skull Base Society (NASBS). Dr. Shorter was also appointed to the NASBS Surgical Simulation Task Force 2016-2018. He has numerous publications and has presented at regional and national meetings.
