Mr. and Mrs. Levy were active in several civic and charitable organizations throughout the Shreveport-Bossier community. Mr. Ben Levy, Jr. was a lifelong resident of Shreveport and a World War II veteran, earning a bronze star and two purple hearts at the Battle of the Bulge. Mrs. Mary Louise Levy grew up in Little Rock, Arkansas. Throughout their lives, the Levys continually invested their time and talents in Shreveport to the benefit of its citizens. The Mary Louise and Ben Levy Jr. Visiting Professorship was instituted by the Levys in 2004 as an enduring gift to the community. Each year, the Department of Neurosurgery invites a renowned neurosurgeon to serve as keynote speaker for the event, providing the local medical community the opportunity to gain new insight and increase knowledge in the field of neurosurgery.
