Die gemeenskap van De Aar was onlangs (Junie 2022) baie verheug en geweldig trots gewees, toe hulle verneem het dat een van hulle eie voormalige inwoners, onlangs die land, die dorp en die hele gemeenskap van De Aar, besig is om hulle naam hoog te hou anderkant die water. ‘n Voormalige inwoner van De Aar het onlangs ‘n Graad in Amerika ontvang. Om die kersie op die koek te sit, is Hendré Fichardt (du Toit), wat hierdié prestasie behaal het, boonop ‘n oud-skolier en 2009 se hoofmeisie van Hoërskool De Aar. Dit is juis ook die skool wat die geweldige goeie nuus op hulle sosiale media bekend gemaak het. Vergesel met ‘n trotse foto van Hendré, waar sy in ‘n pragtige raam spog met haar Graad, het die skool ook van die geleentheid gebruik gemaak om Hendré se prestasies oor die jare heen met lesers te deel. Hulle skryf: “Hendré matrikuleer in 2009 by Hoërskool De Aar en begin in 2010 by die Universiteit van die Vrystaat medies studeer. In 2014 verwerf sy haar MB ChB Graad Cum Laude. Sy doen daarna haar twee jaar internskap by die Vrystaatse Hospitaal Kompleks en daarna ’n gemeenskapsdiensjaar, in Khayelitsha hospitaal. Tydens haar gemeenskapsdiensjaar het sy haar Dip EC diploma voltooi en wen medaljes vir die beste kandidaat in SuidAfrika, in beide geskrewe en praktiese afdelings. Nadat sy haar verpligtinge in Suid-Afrika voltooi het, het sy na Amerika verhuis om verder te spesialiseer. Sy moes in Amerika die 3USMLE eksamens aflê om in Amerika te mag werk as dokter. Sy het ingekom om Interne Medisyne San Antonio, Texas in Amerika te voltooi. Hendré het haar graad in Interne Medisyne verower en begin volgende maand in Texas om verder te spesialiseer in Kardiologie.” Mede-studente, haar familie en vriende het haar grootliks geprys nadat die nuus op die skool se sosiale media blad bekend gemaak is. Giel en Estelle du Toit, haar ouers is ook hartlik geluk gewens met haar prestasie en dit wat sy bereik het met haar reistog in die lewe tot op hede. Een persoon, Tos van der Merwe skryf: “Veels geluk Hendré. Jou ouer mag trots wees op jou asook jou skool!” Party het geskerts en gesê, dis beslis “iets in die water!” Nóg iemand skryf: Klein dorpies se kinders is baie meer bevoorreg glo ek, rustig met minder kinders, klein skole gee beslis meer aandag, julle is tops!” Die skool het verder geskryf: “Dit wys maar net weereens dat maak nie saak of jy in ’n klein dorpie groot geword het en skoolgegaan het nie, jy kan steeds ’n sukses maak en groot hoogtes bereik. Couple found murdered, suspect being sought

BOSHOF | VELDBRAND TOKOLOGO The South African Police Service (SAPS) in the Free State has launched a manhunt after a couple was found murdered inside their car. “On Thursday, 07July 2022 between 15:00 and 16:00 police received information of shooting incident on the R64 road between Dealesville and Boshoff road. On
arrival they found a White Triber sedan parked on the side of the road. The car was travelling from Dealesville to Boshoff. Two people were found dead who were later identified as Lucas Moleme (52) and his wife Lyntjie Moleme (50),” said SAPS Free State spokesperson Sinah Mpakane.
■ KWAZULU-NATAL Four dead, eight wounded in Pietermaritzburg tavern shooting PIETERMARITZBURG | VELDBRAND KZN MIDLANDS Another four people are dead after a shooting at a Pietermaritzburg tavern in KwaZulu-Natal. Eight others were rushed to hospital. It's alleged two armed men driving a VW Polo stormed into the tavern
around 8.30pm on Saturday night and opened fire on patrons. Two were killed on the scene and two died in hospital. Police have launched an investigation.

Suspect nabbed 9 years later after woman loses R110 000 in forex scam BUTTERWORTH | VELDBRAND BUFFALO CITY An Eastern Cape woman lost R110 000 after investing it in a forex scheme on the premise she would receive a great return, which she never did. The Hawks moved swiftly and arrested Zanele Qasha, 39, at OR Tambo International Airport on Wednesday after nine years on the run. She appeared in the Kempton Park Regional Court on
Thursday for charges related to investment scheme fraud. Hawks Eastern Cape spokesperson Captain Yolisa Mgolodela said a woman invested the money after attending Qasha's forex trading investment presentation at Lilitha Guest House conference room in Butterworth on 4 April 2013.

Die Demokratiese Alliansie (DA) in die Emthanjeni Plaaslike Munisipaliteit het onlangs 'n stille betoging gehou by 'n gevaarlike en ontblote watergevulde put aan die buitewyke van De Aar, waar die sewejarige Lethabo Sanele Louw net meer as 'n paar weke gelede tragies gesterf het terwyl hy saam met sy vriende geswem het. Sy pa, Thapelo Marcus Mothlaping, het ook deel gevorm die dag se aktiwiteit. Die voorval het sy ouers verpletter, gemeenskapslede kwaad gemaak en het hulle geen ander keuse gehad as om druk op die Emthanjenimunisipaliteit te plaas omrede hulle voortdurend versuim om die gevaar wat die gat vir die gemeenskap inhou aan te spreek. Dit lyk of die dam gevorm het oor wat eens 'n onwettige stortingsterrein was, wat later 'n gevaarlike swemgat vir kinders geword het, naby 'n gemeenskap wat aan die buitewyke van die dorp woon. Selfs ná die dood van Lethabo, wie se liggaam onlangs uit die dam gehaal is, het die munisipaliteit nie eens die moeite gedoen om die gebied af te sper nie, wat nog te sê die terrein kom inspekteer om te bepaal hoe om hierdie gevaarlike situasie opgelos kan word vir
toekomstige voorvalle. “Die dood van een kind as gevolg van hierdie sogenaamde dam is een dood te veel. Die kind se dood kon voorkom word en dat enige toekomstige sterftes verhoed word.” Die DA het bevestig dat hulle ’n aanmaningsbrief aan die munisipaliteit ingedien het waarin hulle opdrag gee om die gebied dringend af te sluit terwyl hy met ’n plan vorendag kom om die groeiende watermassa dringend aan te spreek. Die oorsake van hierdie watergat, wat net groter en groter word, moet vasgestel word sodat vinnige en doeltreffende oplossings geïmplementeer kan word om dit so gou moontlik op te droog, of om dit permanent te omhein. Die Bo-Karoo se Kiesafdelingshoof, Fawzia Rhoda, het ook 'n brief aan COGHSTA LUR, Bentley Vass, oorhandig waarin 'n ondersoek na kriminele nalatigheid aan die kant van die munisipaliteit ondersoek moet word. Die DA het die gemeenskap in kennis gestel dat hulle die situasie fyn sal dophou en die druk op die munisipaliteit verhoog om die kinders van De Aar te beskerm. media@veldbrandmediasa.co.za

Raw Water Tariff Consultations Kick-off in Northern Cape

Director for Institutional Establishment in the Department of Water and Sanitation in the Northern Cape Mr. Tenda Rasikhanya, says two stakeholder engagement meetings are scheduled for the Northern Cape. “We are meeting with stakeholders in Upington at the
Desert Palace on 20 July 2022 and the Kimberley engagement is scheduled at the Kimberley Garden Court for the 21 July 2022 respectively. We are guided by the National Water Act 36 of 1998 which states that the Minster of Water and Sanitation is required to establish a pricing for raw water charges.” Rasikhanya further indicated that “supplying water to all people at an acceptable level of assurance and quality, costs money, both in terms of capital
investment in infrastructure, and the operation and maintenance associated with water treatment, bulk water distribution and reticulation in human settlements”. Northern Cape fourth quarter crime stats shows worrying increase NORTHERN CAPE | MEDIA STATEMENT

The Northern Cape has seen massive spikes in contact crime. Speaking during the presentation of the fourth quarter of 2021/2022 financial year, Northern Cape acting provincial commissioner, Major General Koliswa Otala, said there is a need to join efforts to deal with crime holistically as community. Otala said contact crimes such as murder increased by 20.3% and rape by 9%, compared to the same quarter the previous year. "Assault categories reflected increases of 152 cases for attempted murder, 335 for assault (gender based-violence), and 272 for assault (common), compared to the same period last year. Burglaries residential in Frances Baard and Namakwa Districts reflected decreases. Overall robbery at residential premises also reflected a decrease of 12. 1% in the province," she said. Otola commended the SAPS officers for the long, irregular working hours. She also thanked Premier Dr
Zamani Saul as well as MEC for Transport, Safety and Liaison, Me Nomanda Bloem and all other relevant partners and stakeholders that contributed to the fight against crime. Otala said the Justice Department was also thanked for the hefty sentences, especially on crimes bordering on gender-based violence, as this deters criminals from committing similar crimes in the future. "Let us all say no to taking of the law in our own hands and give our security cluster and justice to continue with their constitutional mandate of investigation and prosecution of criminals," she said. Otala added that police stations across the province are looking forward to the new police trainees who are currently being trained at police colleges. "They will also come and help fight crime in a positive way," she said.
