Development, in collaboration with the Pixley ka Seme District Department of Social Development and the Department of Home Affairs, commemorated World Adoption Day in De Aar as they hosted an interactive community dialogue that aimed to create more awareness about adoption and the services pertaining to it Adopting a child is a complex and life changing intervention that coincides with a permanent and generally irreversible legal action that effects the child, her or his biological

parent(s), and the adoptive parent(s). The process must adhere to both the constitutional right and the principle of the child's best interests It requires a high levelofprofessionalexpertise in legal and ethical checks and balances. The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (Article 21)requiresthatstateparties take responsibility to ensure that the best interest of the child is served by providing adoption services that meet specific laws and legal procedures.
