Kharkiv has a large musical community, both professional and amateur. This is due to the fact that there are many musical educational institutions in the city, as well as concert venues of various typologies. However, the use of these buildings is limited to their primary function.
Therefore, the main goal of the project is to create a multifunctional building that would become a place for maintaining and developing the musical community of the city, as well as a place for its interaction with ordinary citizens.
The project is located in one of the city parks, in the Gorky Central Park of Culture and Leisure.
The main element of the project is a concert hall, and the building also includes additional spaces, such as a music club, a cafe and public multifunctional spaces.
In order to emphasize the relationship of the building with music, the composition of the plan is based on the graphic work of the outstanding Kharkiv avant-garde artist Vasily Yermilov.
The form of the building is continued through the landscaping in to the surrounding park, which appears to gradually grow from the ground. Therefore, the building becomes accessible to everyone, not only to direct visitors but also to passers-by who can move around the buildings shell.

A currently vacant site at the foot of the volcano, required an intervention to connect it to the visual and physical infinity of the surrounding landscape. As you approach the site an obstacle arises; a wall, and this visual interruption begins the users journey through the space. The construction is organized around the wall by defining it as a guide and adding spaces of a certain character.
The shape of the building as well as the flow of traffic inside is determined by the horizontal landscape and the presence of the volcano as the main visual focus.
The slate-finished wall which goes beyond the interior and is located inside and outside
of the building at the same time, together with panoramic glazing, provides a link between the interior spaces and the environment.
The view of the cafe from the height of the volcano causes the emergence of the fifth facade, that is, the explicit geometry of the roof covered with pebbles.
The wall leads us to path to the volcano. Thus, the cafe becomes the beginning of the user’s journey. Now the representation of the building and the volcano merge.
The cafe is located in such a way that the internal spaces focus towards the panoramic view revealing the volcano. The entrances to the cafe provide convenient movement from the car park to the exit to the hiking trail.

The project of a Multifunctional Building was developed as part of a more detailed aspect of a proposal for the reconstruction of one of the historical districts of the city of Kharkiv.
The first part of this project was designed as part of a group, the result of this work is shown within the master plan. This shows the multifunctional residential complex, as well as its volumetric and spatial solution, which became the basis for further work.
As the main methods of constructing the composition, the methods inherent to early modernism, in particular, constructivism,
Prof., D.Sc. in Architecture Alexander Bouryak
were chosen. This decision made it possible to avoid quarterly development and create more interesting and diverse spaces. Each building of the project is individual and has its own characteristics. A key feature of the proposed building is the terraces, which are for residential use. The remaining parts of the building are commercial spaces, such as offices, hotel and a visitor centre.
Like the first phase of the project, the building was designed using constructivist artistic principles. The main prototypes were the works of Yakov Chernikhov.

The Residential Building project was developed within the framework of the architectural competition Rebuild Ukraine, aimed at creating innovative solutions for the reconstruction or replacement of destroyed houses in Kharkiv, Ukraine. One of the main requirements of the competition is the use of prefabricated building modules called Speedstack, developed by the Canadian architectural firm WZMH specifically for housing reconstruction in Ukraine. The site is located in one of the residential districts of the city. After a full-scale invasion, this particular area of Kharkiv suffered the most, with nearly all residential
buildings in this part of the city being damaged or completely destroyed.
As part of developing a re-building solution, one of the existing blocks were selected to focus on.
The project involves preserving parts of the existing building while demolishing damaged entrances and constructing new 18-story towers. The new structures have their own foundations for stability, and structural frames connect them to the existing building, transferring loads more evenly. The damaged sections on the building’s façade are repurposed as public spaces, and the existing roof becomes functional.
