Breeder’s Choice Gelbvieh Bull Futurity will be live on Facebook Live this year. Follow Breeder’s Choice Gelbvieh Bull Futurity on Facebook and watch live.

Members that are not present will be watching on Facebook Live and voting remotely this year via email and text. Remote voting members will have a ballot sent to them to be voted while watching the Facebook Live online. The ballot will be filled out and submitted for members votes to be counted. Members voting remotely will be sent separate ballots for each voting respectively as the bulls enter the ring.

Proxy voting as in the past no longer exists as a new By-Law change to the futurity rules effective this year of 2024. Please contact Chris Mitchell to set up your remote voting at 334-695-1371

General Information The Breeder’s Choice Gelbvieh Bull Futurity was initiated by Gelbvieh breeders and supporters to increase participation in the National Gelbvieh Show, the National Gelbvieh Sale and to identify the most useful young sires in the Gelbvieh breed.

The sponsor of the annual futurity is the Breeder’s Choice Bull Futurity, Inc., a non-profit organization, not associated with the American Gelbvieh Association.

The Futurity winners will be selected by scored balloting of the participating breeder members.

Ballots must have a different bull in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd positions. Ballots must include all three positions. Member present will vote on site and members not present will vote remotely.

The consignor of the futurity winner shall receive the greater of approximately 80% of the net futurity funds or the net proceeds from the sale of the bull in the National Sale . Two runners-up will be identified to receive approximately 10% respectively of the net futurity funds.

The Futurity winner will be sold in the National Gelbvieh Sale. The lesser of the net sale proceeds of the winning bull or the net futurity proceeds will be given to one breeder/member who will be selected by a random drawing at the Futurity Social on Sunday night.

Each Futurity breeder member has the right to receive 20 (twenty) units of semen from the winning bull.

The voting will be held at the Performance Arena (PER), Sunday, December 31, 2023, at 3:00 pm.

The top 3 vote winning bulls in the initial voting will come back to the arena for a second voting to select and announce The Breeder’s Choice Gelbvieh Bull Futurity Champion.

Breeder’s Choice Gelbvieh Bull Futurity drawing will held at Performance Arena (PER) following the voting of the bulls Sunday, December 31, 2023. Refreshments will be available at the Arena for all present following the voting of bulls.

The 2024 Futurity is limited to 53 breeder memberships. We are selling 1 membership during the Futurity Final Events in the Performance Arena following the voting of the bulls. Buyer of the new memberhip will be included in the drawing.

All bulls entered in the 2024 Breeder’s Choice Gelbvieh Bull Futurity have been DNA tested for HD Genomic EPDs and are tested for the following genetic defects: AM; NH; CA; and DD. The winning Breeder’s Choice Futurity bull is AI qualified and all tests have been completed to meet the AGA requirements for AI sires.

King’s Ransom 250K is a massive, mature-patterned, cattlemen’s-kind-ofbull; the type that can work in many different environments and programs. 250K embodies what the ProHart program has been selecting for generations, cattle with excellent calving ease and birth EPDs, that also deliver growth traits. King’s Ransom ratioed 110 for weaning and 107 for yearling and excels in the breed’s maternal trait values. His FPI, another economically important trait, ranks in the top 25%. Top Notch 3313L is a bull we are excited to showcase as our futurity entry. He encompasses the foundational Gelbvieh traits of growth, maternal, and fertility into a true 99% homozygous black and homozygous polled purebred package. On paper, he sports a solid EPD profile. His growth numbers and 4 carcass trait EPD’s are in the top 2%. This bull weaned at 758 pounds, with no creep feed, to ratio 117. He did this coming off the driest summer pasture conditions we’ve ever had. A big part of this is due to his amazing Dam of Distinction, who brings home a top prospect year after year. She’s a moderate, easy fleshing Sam daughter with a beautiful udder even at 11 years old. She’s been a Dam of Merit or Distinction every year of eligibility. His Dam is one of the best registered purebred cows I’ve been fortunate to raise and own! Very attractive in every angle you look at him! Just like his name, we feel lucky to be able to offer this unique breeding piece to our fellow futurity members. His sire needs no introduction, as he has been a steady breeding piece since his introduction to the Gelbvieh world by Eddie and Wanda Marsman a few years back. His dam is one of the best-bred females on our farm, with BCC Red Oscar 63Y and Hart Farms Trevor Trixie as her parents. She is as easy on the eyes as they come and makes every bull you breed her to even better. Not only is Luck of the Irish royally bred, but his unique combination of calving ease and growth figures make us feel he will certainly create generational swing as a “big spread” bull. We are proud he completes his unique pedigree and progressive genotype with a phenotype that combines more intangible traits than we have ever been able to assemble in one package. He has all the muscle and shape we expect in a true purebred bull. Where he stands out in our minds is his impeccable foot and structure quality and extra presence from the side.
