NEW SALE LOCATION AND SALE PROCEDURE Cattle will be on display at Kist Livestock Auction, Mandan, North Dakota for viewing. The auction will be held in conjunction with the North Dakota Gelbveih Association Events at the Baymont Inn and Suites, Mandan, ND on Sunday night, January 27.

The cattle will sell on video at the hotel with a video of each animal playing on large screen TV’s while each respective animal is sold.

Settlement will be made at the Baymont Inn and Suites following the auction. Cattle may be loaded at Kist Livestock Auction Sunday night following the sale or Monday.

CHOICE OF CRANVIEW GELBVIEH 2018 OPEN HEIFERS

CRANVIEW GELBVIEH We are proud to offer choice of our 2018 born heifer calves which includes everything from our ET, AI and natural service calves. Over half of these heifers are from an ET mating and most of the others from a female that came from our ET program. Donor dams include CRAN Z251 Buttercup (1225850), DCH Z133 Zula (1226373), CRAN A313 Princess (1259724), CRAN C557 Zula (1330353), and BSF W2 Princess (AMAN 16497760).

CRAN Z251 Buttercup - We sold a limited Embryo interest to Eagle Pass Ranch, Jumping Cow Gelbvieh and Beastrom Ranch in the National Sale and she is dam to several past Futurity nominations. She is an extremely beautiful TC Total BA50 female with an excellent carcass portfolio.

She has Sam 971B and Secret Brand calves in this offering.

DCH ZULA Z133 • Donor dam of Lot 1.

DCH Z133 – The decision to purchase this cow back in 2013 might be one of my best decisions.

She has produced females that we have added to our herd and progeny that have sold into Canada and a number of other states. Her Game Changer heifer calf led our 2018 heifer calf sale and sold to Shad Ludeman in SD for $6000. CRAN C557 (Sandhills donor female) is one of her most talked about progeny as she had many friends during her show career.

CRAN A313 – One of our goals with producing Balancers is to produce females that we can use to build better high percentage Gelbvieh. We took one of the best Angus cows (Princess W2) and mated her to a Futurity winner to produce this female. A313 had many friends in the US and Canada while we showed her and has produced females that we have added to our herd.

CRAN C557 – This cow is a spitting image of her mother, Z133, except she is red. This Sandhills heifer was part of one of the most profitable flushes we ever sold to include flush mates that were sold to Warner Beef Genetics and Cedar Top Ranch. C557 is a 5.5 frame cow with a huge amount of volume.

Princess W2 – This cow has a tremendous amount of volume and bone. She has as much phenotypic similarities to our Gelbvieh cows as I could find in an Angus package. Combine that with her genetic package and we have a tremendous opportunity to produce some excellent Balancer progeny. She is the dam of the 2-time NWSS Reserve Champion Angus Bull-BSF Opportunist and the extremely popular Hot Lotto Angus Bull owned by Bull Barn Genetics.

Sires used to create these heifers include Jackpot 7551B, JRI Probity, Lazy TV SAM U451, DLW Sam 971B, FHG GrandSlam 128D, DDGR 95D, CRAN Fillmore B553, EGL Lock & Load, and DLW Alumni. Most heifers are Balancers ranging from 38% - 75% with a handful of heifers being PB. Your pick must be completed prior to our March 23rd Sale date. EPD DEFINITIONS CALVING EASE DIRECT (CED): Percent of unassisted births of a bull’s calves when he is used on heifers. A higher number is favorable, meaning better calving ease. This EPD can be vital to a rancher looking to decrease the amount of calves pulled in his herd.

BIRTH WEIGHT (BW): Predicts the difference, in pounds, for birth weight of the calf.

WEANING WEIGHT (WW): Predicts the difference, in pounds, for weaning weight (adjusted to age of dam and a standard 205 days of age). This is an indicator of growth from birth to weaning.

YEARLING WEIGHT (YW): Predicts the expected difference, in pounds, for yearling weight (adjusted to a standard 365 days of age). This is an indicator of growth from birth to yearling.

MILK (MILK): The genetic ability of a sire’s daughters to produce milk expressed in pounds of weaning weight.

CALVING EASE MATERNAL (CEM): Represented as percent of unassisted births in a sire’s first-calving daughters.

A higher number represents more favorable calving ease.

This EPD is important to a rancher’s bottom line because it predicts which animals produce daughters with a genetic pre-disposition to calve unassisted as heifers.

TOTAL MATERNAL (TM): An index that combines growth and milk information as a prediction of the weaning weight performance of calves from a sire’s daughters. As an index, this value is not reported with an accompanying accuracy. A greater TM value means a mother that returns comparatively higher weaning weights on her calves. TM Index = MK EPD + ½ WW EPD. YIELD GRADE (YG): Differences in yield grade score, which is a predictor of percent retail product. Smaller values suggest that progeny will have a better lean to fat ratio.

CARCASS WEIGHT (CW): Differences in pounds of hot carcass weight, adjusted to an industry standard age endpoint.

RIBEYE AREA (REA): Differences in ribeye area in inches between the 12th and 13th rib. Greater ribeye areas are preferable.

MARBLING (MB): Predicts the differences in the degree of marbling within the ribeye as expressed in marbling score units. Greater marbling numbers are preferable and are an indicator of higher carcass quality grades.Growth traits FEEDER PROFIT INDEX (FPI): An economic selection index designed to aid producers in selecting sires whose progeny will perform in the feedlot and are sold on a grade and yield standpoint. Well ranking sires for FPI have higher marbling and carcass weight than their contemporaries. As a terminal index, little emphasis is put on maternal traits such as stayability and calving ease.
