DAVIS DIRECTION FOUNDATION

The mission of The Davis Direction Foundation is to Fight Addiction and Fuel Recovery while serving as a local, state and national role model for Building Communities of Recovery in the midst of a national heroin/opioid epidemic. The Davis Direction Foundation opened the doors to The Zone, a Recovery Support Organization, in 2016.
Letter from the Founders
Missy and Michael OwenRemaining positive during 2021 was quite difficult as the global pandemic of Covid 19 continued to ravage its way through our Community of Recovery We lost more beautiful people in one year’s time than we had ever lost before Isolation, a devastated economy, and the looming dark cloud of Covid continued to create an unimaginable silver lining for those of us living through it. We lost friends, brother, sisters, Moms and Dads, sons and daughters, aunts and uncles, grandchildren and even some that we didn’t know very well We watched as children became orphans and were placed in the custody of the state We offered all that we had available, detox, sober living, clothes, meals, literature, friendship and love, but it wasn’t enough. We made phone calls, checked in with those we were missing and extended grace and acceptance, but it wasn’t enough Unprecedented times created situations and experiences that we just plainly did not know how to deal with, but we trudged on giving it all that we knew
Because of our generous donors and supporters, we survived and provided support in ways that we never dreamed we would be providing to meet the needs of our community during this past year We offered Covid testing, Covid vaccines, Covid Boosters, flu shots, and HIV and Hep C testing We began serving 3 meals per day and providing Homeless Street Outreach We offered laundry services and hot shower; we even kept our doors open during the inclement weather which brought flooding and freezing temperatures We did all we knew how to do, and we would imagine we saved countless lives because of it
People changed their patterns to make their waking hours the hours that THE ZONE was closed at night, because they knew our Day Shelter was a safe haven where they could have their basic needs met each day We NEVER missed a day of being open for business as we were declared early on as essential workers and first responders
2022 is our year to RECOVER RECOVERY! We will not be defeated! YES, there were loved ones and aspects of face to face recovery that Covid took from us during the pandemic, but for those people and those aspects that are Recoverable WE’RE COMING FOR YOU…with outstretched arms.

The Zone Service Dog

Oli was a gift to THE ZONE from Southeastern Guide Dogs in the summer of 2016 soon after we opened the Recovery Support Organization. One of our amazing volunteers had been a puppy trainer for them for many years. She wrote a letter telling them about our organization and how she thought a service dog would provide a much needed service for those in Recovery. Oli was trained as a PTSD service dog, a Guided Sight Service Dog and a Facility Therapy Service Dog. After two years, no one had matched up with her, so she was gifted to THE ZONE and we were beyond thrilled. We changed her name to Olive, and we call her Oli. She loves to cuddle during meetings, play chase and hang out in the kitchen hoping some “newbie” might slip her a bite from the table! She works 5 days a week and she takes her job very seriously. When Michael leaves in the morning, he says “Oli, you ready to work?” Oli beats him to the car and couldn’t be happier to head to THE ZONE to love on all of the people who come looking for support. Oli is our Love Lab and we have been blessed beyond belief with her compassion and unconditional love.
