Directions to Widener • From Philadelphia: Take I-95 South to I-476 North and MacDade Boulevard. Turn west onto MacDade Boulevard. Follow the Widener University sign. MacDade Boulevard will become East 22nd Street. Turn left onto Providence Avenue, Route 320 South. Follow the Widener University sign. Turn left onto East 14th Street into the main entrance of the university. From Western and Northern Pennsylvania: Follow the Pennsylvania Turnpike to Exit 20, I-476. Take I-476 South toward Chester to Exit 1 (MacDade Boulevard). Turn west onto MacDade Boulevard. Follow the Widener University sign. MacDade Boulevard will become East 22nd Street. Vince Touey • Men’s Head Coach Vince Touey is in his 27th season as Widener’s head coach of the men’s cross country and track and field teams. He took over the men’s and women’s programs in 1987 and coached the women for 23 years. Touey has taken a near last-place finisher in the Middle Atlantic Conference and turned it into one which consistently is among the front runners in the conference each season. Under Touey’s watch, Widener has won 21 track & field championships between the men and women and one cross country title. Widener won the 1997 men’s cross country title for its first crown in 24 years. Touey has coached numerous individual Middle Atlantic Conference champions and has produced 47 All-Americas, including a six-time national champion in Macharia Yuot and 12 of Widener’s 45 national Academic All-Americas. After guiding the men’s outdoor track and field team to the 1999 conference title for the first time in his career, Touey was named the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Mid-Atlantic Region Coach of the Year. He again was selected region Coach of the Year after the team won their fourth straight Middle Atlantic Conference Indoor Track and Field title and fifth in six years.
Widener in 2006 won another MAC championship, capturing the men’s outdoor title. For his effort, Touey was named the league’s Coach of the Year. The 2010 campaign witnessed the start of something really special as the Pride won the MAC indoor and outdoor championships. The squads repeated the double in 2012 and 2013, and won the indoor crown in 2011, giving the indoor team four straight MAC titles. For all of those championships, Touey was named the MAC Coach of the Year. In 2013, he was tabbed USTFCCCA Mideast Region Coach of the Year. Touey previously taught at St. James High School, coaching the cross country and track and field teams. The outdoor track team placed first at the Delaware County Championships in 1983. In 1986, his freshmen cross country team won the Catholic League Championship. Touey, holder of a 1996 Masters of Education from Widener, received a Bachelor of Science in Labor Relations from La Salle University in 1980. He was a member of the school’s 4x800-meter relay team, which held the school record for nine years. Another personal honor was achieved in 1983, when he won the Penn Relays Marathon. Touey also competed in the 1999 Boston Marathon, placing 206th in his age group of over 2,500 competitors and 905th overall in a field of almost 13,000.
Kevin Cunningham • Women’s Head Coach Kevin Cunningham, a former standout athlete for Widener, is in his third season as women’s track & field/cross country coach at his alma mater. Cunningham took over after serving three years as an assistant coach and recruiting director for Widener’s men’s and women’s track & field and cross country programs. Among his many duties included designing strength and conditioning programs, serving as manager in charge for its home meets, coordinating fundraising activities and conducting annual alumni events. His work paid big dividends as the men’s indoor and outdoor track & field teams won the Middle Atlantic Conference titles in 2010. This was Cunningham’s lone year as the program’s top assistant coach after serving as a graduate assistant from 2007-09.

Cunningham was a vital part of the team’s growth as a studentathlete from 2001-06. Participating primarily in distance events, he helped the squad capture the 2006 MAC outdoor championship. Cunningham in his senior year was an assistant coach at Cardinal O’Hara High School, his alma mater. He is certified on the USATF Level 1 since 2009 and on Level 2 in jumps since last July. Cunningham since 2007 served part time as a staff accountant for James Flanagan and Associates. He also was a staff auditor for Ernst and Young from 2006-07. A nine-time member of the MAC Academic Honor Roll, Cunningham graduated Widener in 2006 with a double major in Accounting and Economics. He earned his Master’s of Education in December 2009.
