Assistant Coaches Megan Brady is in her 12th season as an assistant coach at her alma mater. Brady graduated in 2002 after starting 93-of-106 career games over four years at catcher and third base. She batted a team-leading .404 as a senior in 2002, starting all 35 contests, and was tabbed the squad’s Most Valuable Player. During her career for Widener, Brady traveled to Belgium and Holland in the summer of 2000 with an amateur Team USA squad. A 2002 alum of Widener with a B.S. in Business Administration, Brady is a staff accountant for the school’s accounting office. Brady also is a board member for Widener’s Blue & Gold Club.

Tom Phillips

is in his sixth year as an assistant coach for Widener. Phillips served as an assistant coach at Sun Valley High School from 2010-11 and also was an assistant JV coach for the Vanguards from 2003-09. He also has been an assistant coach with the Delco Diamonds since 2004 and both a head coach and assistant with the Aston Athletic Association since 2002. Phillips’ daughter, Meg, competed for the Pride from 2008-11 and served two years as Widener’s graduate assistant sports information director from 2011-13. She was named first team All-Commonwealth Conference as well as second team All-ECAC South Region in 2011. Billie Relyea is in his second season as an assistant coach for the Pride. Relyea is an ASA Certified coach who coaches the 14U Lady Muckdawgs tournament team. He is also a hitting and catching instructor at Maple Zone in Garnet Valley. WIDENER PRIDE

PREVIEW There were many great moments in the 2013 campaign, highlighted by AllCommonwealth Conference picks and head coach Fred Dohrmann notching his 500th career victory. The Pride bring back nine returnees among a talented group that should make plenty of noise in the league. The lone returnee among the all-league picks is sophomore Alie Alkins, a gifted all-around competitor who makes the move to shortstop after playing center field last season. Picked second team all-conference, Alkins a season ago led the Pride with a .393 batting average, 44 hits, four home runs, 13 walks and nine stolen bases. She also tied for the team lead with 24 runs, and was tied for second with four home runs and 18 RBI. Jackie Korang has been a durable player the last three seasons and hopes her senior campaign is her finest. Closing last year with a 6-6 record and pacing Widener with a 2.88 ERA, Korang hope to regain the same form from 2012 when she amassed a 12-8 mark to go with a 2.61 ERA. The Delran, NJ product also is a key member of the squad at the plate after batting .330 a season ago and leading the Pride with 12 extra-base hits. Liz Carpino is back for her senior season and also should be a key member in the starting rotation. After sitting out 2012, she showed no rust last season in picking up five victories with 18 strikeouts and only nine walks over 59 2/3 innings. Junior Carissa Harris has started every game she has played over two seasons and again gets the nod at first base. She sports a career .311 batting average with 25 RBI. Senior catcher Amber Jackson saw playing time a season ago behind the plate and the same could hold true this year. A determined worker with a team-first attitude, she looks for more time in the field this season. Sophomore Heather Forward is a multi-dimensional outfielder who can play any position and be a major factor both at the plate and in the field. She notched a .343 batting average last season to end fourth on the team and also amassed a .903 fielding percentage. Emily Corson saw playing time a season ago in the outfield and seeks more time in her sophomore campaign. She gives the Pride many options after playing in 20 games last season. Whether it is at catcher or in the infield, sophomore Taylor Church should be a valuable player for Widener this season. Even with limited playing time a year ago, she still made a huge impact and her .929 fielding percentage from 2013 will make her tough to keep out of the lineup. Junior Jamie Williams (pictured) also is a multi-faceted player, whether at pitcher or in the infield. She batted .269 last season and the fact she had a 2:1 strikeout-to-walk ratio (16 strikeouts and eight walks) should prove vital in her playing time this year. The Pride welcome 11 newcomers this season in Nicole Burt, Liz Antonucci, Devin Coyne, Nicole Cavalier, Bree Vanreenen, Ally Horvath, Angela Hood, Michelle Hedricks, Kristen Kozak, Alexis Schengrund and Salina Allebach. Widener opens its campaign March 3 in Clermont, FL against Elizabethtown, 2014 Home Games which no longer is a league opponent. The Pride will play six contests in Florida as Tue. Mar. 18 Swarthmore (DH) 4:00 pm part of their 40-game schedule. Mon. Mar. 24 Eastern (DH) 4:00 pm Conference play begins March 22 against Lebanon Valley and ends April 26 vs. Wed.
