Developmental Studies Award: NONE Length: Variable Purpose: The Virginia Community College System (VCCS) requires that each campus assess student readiness for college-level work. Based on assessment outcomes, a student may be required to take developmental courses in mathematics, reading and writing. These courses do not carry college-level credit but are designed to develop essential skills necessary for college-level work. By obtaining these skills, students increase the likelihood of successful completion of their chosen program of study. For more information about student readiness assessment options, contact the Office of Admissions. Program Requirements: All program-placed students are assigned to an academic advisor. College-level course enrollment requires advisor approval, and students must complete all required developmental prerequisites before taking college-level courses. Students demonstrating developmental needs are encouraged to complete Developmental Studies course requirements as early as possible in their college enrollment. Academic advisors are available to assist students with questions regarding developmental course needs and scheduling. Developmental Studies Prerequisites Students should not enroll in the following courses until they have shown adequate college readiness.
