CHAIRMANS MESSAGE

Greeting and Happy Holidays,

Welcome to our 24th Annual Christmas Gala, the first in person since 2019. The past few years have been challenging for everyone. The young scholars that we are supporting with this event have been especially affected. Many have missed traditions like prom and their senior year in high school has looked like no other. Despite those obstacles they have persevered and overcome those challenges. This year the Diablo Black Men's Group is very excited to continue our tradition in supporting such worthy young men. Along with your support we have impacted hundreds of lives by providing scholarships to young African American men attending college for the first time Since our group ' s inception we have raised over $200,000 in scholarships for young men living in Alameda and Contra Costa counties

As I near the end of my tenure as Chairman of the DBMG, I’m proud to reflect on our accomplishments in keeping our mission alive Some of which include; our participation in community events like the Martin Luther King Day Celebration as well as the Juneteenth Celebration which actualizes full citizenship among African Americans and other minorities in the Diablo Valley Our monthly meetings which include informative, guest speakers not only allows us to stay connected as a group, and it encourages and promotes fellowship amongst Black men Our Health & Wellness Education along with many other vital connections throughout the Tri Valley area allow us to remain a relevant footprint in our community

Tonight's Gala is essential to providing an incredible need for support to the often marginalized African American male students who wish to attend college. With your generous contributions we can all have a sense of pride in contributing to this effort.

In closing, I would like to personally thank each of you for your attendance tonight. Your presence will impact the lives of so many. The Diablo Black Men’s group could not do it without you.

Sincerely, Horace Gipson Chairman DBMG

Lift every voice and sing Till earth and heaven ring Ring with the harmonies of Liberty

Let our rejoicing rise

High as the listening skies

Let it resound loud as the rolling sea

Sing a song full of the faith that the dark past has taught us

Sing a song full of the hope that the present has brought us Facing the rising sun of our new day begun Let us march on till victory is won

Stony the road we trod Bitter the chastening rod

Felt in the days when hope unborn had died Yet with a steady beat Have not our weary feet

Come to the place for which our fathers sighed?

We have come over a way that with tears has been watered We have come, treading our path through the blood of the slaughtered Out from the gloomy past Till now we stand at last Where the white gleam of our bright star is cast

God of our weary years God of our silent tears

Thou who has brought us thus far on the way Thou who has by Thy might Led us into the light Keep us forever in the path, we pray Lest our feet stray from the places, our God, where we met Thee Lest, our hearts drunk with the wine of the world, we forget Thee Shadowed beneath Thy hand

May we forever stand True to our God True to our native land Our native land

OUR MISSION AND ROOTS

To promote fellowship among Black men, to help African Americans and other minorities in the Diablo Valley actualize full citizenship, including liberty, good health, social equality and economic vitality.

The Diablo Black Men’s Group began in the mid 1990s as an outlet for Diablo Valley men. By 1999, the group had evolved into an organization of men who wanted to use our collective influence to enhance the lives of our members and families as well as make a contribution to the community in which we live. We encourage our members to appreciate liberty and all that it encompasses, including embracing community involvement

DBMG is committed to support activities with the goal of improving the health and welfare of our citizenry. DBMG was actively involved in promoting prostate cancer awareness and screening in collaboration with the Alta Bates Summit Ethnic Health Institute and American Cancer Society with support from the Chevron/Texaco Corporation Additionally, DBMG helps socially and economically challenged Bay Area youth pursue cultural and educational opportunities through our scholarship program.

TONIGHTS AUCTIONEER

Pacific Auction Company

Steven Godfryd is the founder and president of the Pacific Auction Company, which conducts and organizes 200 benefit auctions annually and plays a central role in generating millions of dollars each year for organizations making a better world Having worked as a professional non profit fundraiser for 15 years, the combination of being both an auctioneer and a fundraiser makes him a powerful force in encouraging people to exercise their hearts and bid generously at fundraising events

Steve became an auctioneer the old fashioned way, by studying auctioneers. He has a reverence for country cattle callers and their high speed auction patter, yet appreciates the sophistication of auctioneers at the world’s finest auction houses such as Christie’s & Sotheby’s His style is a bit flashy, and a true hybrid of old fashioned country combined with high brow city flare.

Steve’s diverse background reflects his passion for giving and helping others He served as a beekeeper in the Peace Corps in Paraguay, where he taught impoverished farmers how to produce and sell honey. After three years in Paraguay, he subsequently worked in Brazil, Argentina, Chile & Nicaragua, spending a total of seven years working with bees and rural people in Latin America
