Our athletic program is second to none and it serves as an extension to our educational programming. Welcome to Harlem High School. I am excited to begin the 2022-2023 athletic seasons!

We are honored to have you as our guests today. The NIC 10, in conjunction with the IHSA, has been working to stress the importance of sportsmanship at all athletic events in our conference as well as across the state. We ask that everyone present today demonstrate good sportsmanship throughout this contest as well as throughout the season. I am hopeful for a safe sports season. Educational based athletics provides children with the opportunity to grow in many different areas, but most importantly success beyond what the scoreboard says. I ask the question of “Why do I coach?” to the coaches. I believe that high school athletes should ask themselves a similar question, “Why do I play?” Sports can build character, but it can also tear it down. It is important that athletics make a positive impact on a student, rather than a negative. Thank you for supporting Harlem Athletics. I ask that you continue your support with positive and uplifting cheers. I ask that you exhibit the highest level of integrity and pride for our athletes, and that we represent Harlem with dignity and class.

Welcome to Harlem High School! I am so honored and proud to be serving this community as your principal. We have a long tradition of providing great experiences for athletes and spectators by ensuring we have positive and strong competition in excellent facilities. We invite you to contribute to that tradition by following guidelines and behaviors listed below:

• Remember that high school athletics are learning experiences for student-athletes and that they make mistakes. Praise them in their attempts to improve as students, as athletes, and as people. • A ticket is a privilege to observe the contest, not a license to berate others, including coaches and officials, or to exhibit inappropriate or disruptive behavior. Show respect for our opponents, their coaches, and their fans. They are our guests, and we want them to remember Harlem for the strong, united, positive community that it is. Respect the integrity, expertise, and judgement of the game officials. Understand that they are doing their best to promote student-athletes and admire their willingness to participate in full view of the public. • Recognize and appreciate outstanding play by either team. Refrain from any banned substance, including drugs, alcohol, tobacco, and vape devices before, during, and after the game while on our grounds. • Use only cheers that uplift the teams and student-athletes. Thank you for helping make this an enjoyable event for student-athletes, coaches, and your fellow fans. You play a vital role in making Harlem Athletics a strong and respected program. ! hope you enjoy your experience watching our student-athletes compete.

Coach Blecker is entering his first year as the Head Coach and 12 years in the program. Coach Blecker works at Rosecrance in the Rockford area. He has been married for 30 years & has two daughters, Kaitlyn (28) & Bailee (21).

Coach McCloy is entering his 7th year as Head Coach and 14th with the program. Coach McCloy is a physical education teacher at the high school. He has been married to his wife, Nicole for 17 years and they have a 14 year old daughter, Addison and 10 year old son, Maddux.

NATHANIEL DODSON

HEAD VARSITY GIRLS TRACK

Coach Dodson is entering his 2nd year as Head Coach and 11th with the program. Coach Dodson graduated from Harlem High School in 2007. He is in his 2nd year teaching special education at Harlem. Coach Dodson graduated from NIU in 2021 with his LBS 1 as well as graduating in July 2023 from National Louis with his LBS 2.

BILL DREDGE

HEAD VARSITY TENNIS

Coach Dredge has been coaching in the Harlem School for the past 33 years. He has had many different coaching assignments during that time. He has been the boys varsity coach for 27 years. The highlights of his coaching career include developing many lasting relationships in and around the community. Bill graduated from Aurora College and has a Masters Degree from Northern Illinois University.

His family includes his wife, Gayle, daughter Cathy and a son, Joe.

JARED RICHARDSON

HEAD VARSITY BOYS TRACK

Jared enters his third season as the Harlem boys distance coach, and his second season as the head boys track and field coach. He is a 2006 graduate of Harlem High School and a 2010 graduate of the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana. He was a standout track and field athlete at Harlem, earning all-state 3 times and breaking 3 school records. He was also all-state once in cross country. He went on to earn 4 varsity letters at the University of Illinois across both sports. He currently works as a building sub/support staff at Loves Park Elementary and also serves as the head boys cross country coach at Harlem. He enjoys spending time with friends, traveling, and reading in his spare time.

Coach Kuchinski is entering her 3rd year as Head Coach. Coach Kuchinski is also the Girls Volleyball Head Coach and a preschool teacher at Rockford Lutheran Academy. Coach Kuchinski has a 6 year old daughter, Avery.

HEAD VARSITY SOFTBALL

Kurt Head begins his 7th year as Harlem Varsity coach. He was head Varsity coach at Hononegah for 4 years, 6 years as the assistant coach. He has been NIC-10 coach of the year 3 times. He also coached 3 years at Rock Valley as the assistant softball coach, 4 years as a travel ball coach for Stateline Fury where they were 2 times State Champions for 13U and 16U, and 16U National Champions. He was a 1997 Harlem Graduate.
