Obituary Elder Yerimyah Ben Ysrael Jerone Edward Dodd, Sr., 70, was born on August 31, 1949, in Toledo, Ohio. He departed this life on June 18, 2020. Jerone, lovingly called “Ronny,” was a devoted Dad and the oldest of six siblings. He graduated from Scott High School in 1967, and later served in the U. S. Air Force in Istanbul, Turkey. Upon his return, he worked at IBM as a Project Manager in Toledo, Milwaukee, and Atlanta for 18 years and later started a consulting business as an Executive Management Trainer. In 1995, he moved to Detroit, MI, serving for five years as Vice President and General Manager of Integrated Steel, Inc. He later worked for several corporations as a Management Consulting Professional. His college experience includes the University of Toledo and the University of Phoenix, with a Bachelor of Arts in Management.

As a young adult, Ronny enjoyed playing baseball, football, and basketball. He was an avid golfer who also loved watching sports, especially the O-H-I-O State games during football season. He loved to bake and was known for his famous carrot cake and chili. He was the owner of “The Cakery,” a bakery that sold cakes and sweet potato pies to local restaurants. Music was food for his spirit and mind. He enjoyed listening to Earth Wind and Fire (favorite group), the Temptations, the Gap Band, and James Brown, to name a few. He swore he was the real David Ruffin.

Jerone, a Hebrew Israelite affiliated with the Messianic Sinaitic Congregation located in Charlotte, NC, later became known as Elder Yerimyah Ben Ysrael. His search for truth and knowledge was relentless and unending. As a fervent researcher, he was tenacious and persistent in his pursuit of information supporting his point of view. He authored three books, (1) Redemption of a Stiff Neck People, (2) The Narrow Path (The Salvation of Yah), and (3) Return to Me and I’ll Return to You. As Big Brother, years ago, he ruled through his military style of tough love, often lining the siblings up on the sofa and daring them to move. As a Dad, although hard on his kids at times, he taught them the definition of strength, love, and support. His goal was to encourage them to be the very best and teach them about his creator, the Most High.

Jerone was born to the union of Edward and Odessa (Thompson) Dodd, who both proceeded him in death.

He leaves to cherish his memory sons Emmanuel Dedan Kimathi-Dodd, and Jerone (Miho) Dodd Jr., and daughter Somer Dashon Dodd, all of Atlanta, GA, from his first marriage to Brenda Dodd as well as daughter Zoe Elise Dodd, of Southfield, MI, from his second marriage to Angela Threlkeld Dodd, one brother Kevin (Lavell) Dodd, of Wayne, MI, and four sisters Geralda (Thomas) Sellers, of Detroit, MI plus Lisa (James) Scott, Neder Dodd, and Cheryl (Melvin) Acuff, all of West Bloomfield, MI; five grandchildren Jada Harrell, Sade Harrell, Onyx Dodd, Isis Dodd-Tokunaga, and Taborn Kimathi-Dodd, a host of nieces and nephews, family and friends.

Dad, you were my first definition of strength, my first definition of cool. You gave me my name and set me on my course. You always gave me the encouragement and validation I needed for all of my life pursuits. Your posterity will know your name and your works. Your transformation over the years gave all of us inspiration and pride in your journey. This journey has etched countless lessons for us and drew us closer over the years. Words can not express the understanding and love you had for your children and family. Instead of sadness, remorse, or depression, we celebrate you and embody your will and spirit of truth in our lives to carry on the covenant of love with our own families. We give all grace to the Most High Creator and pray that your works and life be a blessing to not only your children and family but that they propel you to your next stop in this forever quest. I love you and know that we are one.

Although it makes losing you that much harder. I wish we had more time, but your body was so tired after months of fighting, and I get it. I'm glad you're not suffering anymore, but I hate to see you go so soon. Watch over us as we continue to make you proud. Thank you for everything. See

One fond memory was Big Mama helping me write letters to you while you were in the Air Force. You were the Big Brother and father figure to us all. Your presence made an impact on my life and our family unit as a whole. Before and after Dad passed, it was you, when Mom passed, you stepped up, and you took charge, and you handled everything.
