The Milwaukee Road had a major railroad yard and roundhouse in Deer Lodge until the 1970’s. Located in the parking lot of the Old Prison Museum is a collection of railroad artefacts, including two engines, a caboose, signals and the Last Spike display. The caboose is open to visitors during the Summer. Frontier Montana has one of the largest and most impressive collections of handguns, spurs, chaps and other cowboy collectibles in the American West. Includes Native American, General Custer and Civil War displays. Powell County Museum contains mining exhibits, local collections and an impressive display of wood carving. Both museums are open during the Summer only.
