The Chestnut Hill Conservancy and Night Kitchen Bakery (NKB) raise over $16,000 to support two community treasures
The Chestnut Hill Conservancy and the Night Kitchen Bakery joined forces last week, raising over $16,000 to help with the immediate stabilization and eventual restoration of the firedamaged Hiram (Mitchell) Lodge #81 building, and support Night Kitchen Pastry Chef Angela Jarmon in her battle with multiple sclerosis. Close to 100 people attended the fundraiser, which took place on Wednesday, Nov 2 at the Venetian Social Club in Chestnut Hill. In addition to the beef, beer, and baked goods, attendees enjoyed a silent auction and a raffle, with prizes donated by almost a dozen local businesses.
A member-supported organization, the Chestnut Hill Conservancy works to sustain and celebrate the architecture, history, and nature of this beautiful urban village. So, after learning about the devastating fire that damaged the Lodge building last August, the Conservancy contacted the Lodge’s leadership. The Conservancy published information on the building’s history, and invited community members to get in touch with any offers of support, so that the Lodge could focus all of their efforts on rebuilding.
Amy Edelman, Owner of the Night Kitchen Bakery, responded to the Conservancy’s call and suggested combining efforts to also help Angela Jarmon, Chef at the Bakery, in her battle against multiple sclerosis. The two organizations started working with Lodge member Jim Clancy, and together threw a beef, beer, and baked goods fundraiser that raised over $16,000, all of which will be split between the Lodge and Angela Jarmon.
The Chestnut Hill Conservancy expects that these funds will help the Lodge stabilize, preserve, and rebuild this significant part of the fabric of Chestnut Hill.
