INFORMATION FOR PARENTS HOW TO BOOK By email: Please visit www.gov.je/sport and click on ‘holiday sport courses for children’. From here, select your sport and download a booking form, complete and email to sport@gov.je By Post: Please complete the form in full (applications will not be accepted without the consent section completed in full) and return the application form together with the correct payment to Course bookings, Sports Development, Fort Regent, St Helier, JE2 4UX. Payment is required at the time of booking. The consent form must be completed and returned. All applications are processed on a first come, first served basis. All activities have limited availability. Please book early to avoid disappointment. Course information is available on www.gov.je/sport

NOTES FOR PARENTS: All activities will start and finish at the times stipulated. Please ensure that youngsters arrive and are collected at the correct times. Instructors cannot take responsibility for children outside session times. • All activities have strict age group stipulations for safety and the enjoyment of all youngsters. • Please ensure plenty to drink is brought to all activities, (preferably non fizzy). • All equipment will be provided except where indicated. • Please ensure appropriate footwear and clothing is worn. • Please ensure that for outside activities youngsters bring sun protection cream, a cap or sun hat and waterproof clothing at all times.

The Department for Education, Sport & Culture reserve the right to cancel or amalgamate courses/sessions should there be insufficient demand. In order to ensure safety and enjoyment of all youngsters The Department for Education, Sport & Culture reserves the right to refuse applications or withdraw youngsters from activities. Parents/guardians will be informed should this situation arise by a member of the Sports Development Department. Please note that requests for refunds must be made in writing to the Sports Manager at least one week before the course start date. Due to administrative costs we are unable to process refunds for fees under £7. A receipt will be issued to confirm that you have been allocated a place on the requested course. “The organisers will not be responsible for any expense, consequential loss, legal liability, loss or damage to any property or person arising from any matters, acts and /or defaults outside its control.” Please note that Education Sport and Culture accepts no liability in relation to any loss/damage arising out of any service/course included in this programme provided by a third party.

The camp combines a range of adventurous sports such as surfing, stand up paddle boarding and doughnut rides with swimming, cycling and a range of team and individual sports and fun team games both at Les Quennevais Sport Centre and surrounding beaches. This programme is ideal if you love being outdoors and active All children must be competent swimmers and have the ability to swim a minimum of 50 metres unaided in the sea. The meeting and collection point each day will be the foyer of Les Quennevais Sports Centre. Please wear: tracksuit or similar and trainers and bring shorts for warm weather and also warm clothing if it is cold and a rain jacket and change of clothes in case it is wet. Please bring: plenty to drink, healthy packed lunch, healthy snacks, swimming costume, towel, sun cream and hat. Please note: it is compulsory to bring a bicycle on Wednesdays. Bicycles should be in full working order and cyclists will also require a helmet.

The aim of the programme is to develop young athlete’s tactical awareness and technical skills across a range of different sports. The sessions will be intense with a focus on trying to develop and improve. As a result, this programme is aimed at keen sports men and women who have the desire to improve. Sports confirmed so far are rugby, cricket, badminton, football, softball, rounders and end ball (based on netball) with others to be confirmed soon. Each day will also include work on athletes speed, agility and quickness in addition to strength, flexibility work and fun team tactical games. Children will also be swimming during the day and must be able to swim 50m unaided and happy to swim in both a swimming pool and the sea. Please wear: tracksuit or similar and trainers and bring shorts for warm weather and also warm clothing if it is cold. Please bring a rain jacket and change of clothes in case it is wet and swimming costume and towel. Please bring: plenty to drink, healthy packed lunch, healthy snacks, swimming costume, towel, sun cream and hat and a backpack or kit bag to carry gear in. Please also bring moulded football boots or astroturf trainers if you have them (don’t worry if you don’t have them) Please note: It is advised to book for the whole week to guarantee a place and the full range of sports. (there will be 2 main focus sports per day). In the event of a weekly and a daily booking occurring at the same time and causing the course to be full, the weekly bookee will take priority. If you are booking for an individual day, you must quote the course code for the week and the specific day you are looking for. We are unable at this time to confirm the specific sports that will take place each day.

The main focus of the sessions will be learning the game and skills required through short fun games. No experience is necessary. A racketball coach instructs all sessions. All equipment is provided. The squash courts can be found adjacent to the active gym and children should meet the coach there. Please wear: tracksuit or similar and non marking trainers. Please bring: plenty to drink and a small towel.

Activity mornings includes: trampolining, wall climbing, table tennis, team games, badminton and swimming. All sessions are fully supervised. Children will participate in at least 45 minutes of water-based activity each day and so it is essential that they are competent swimmers. Children attending should meet in the swimming pool foyer (top car park). During the summer holidays children may swim at Havre des Pas (ESC lifeguarded facility) subject to weather and tidal conditions. Please wear: tracksuit and trainers or similar and thick socks for the trampoline. Please bring: healthy snacks & lunch, plenty to drink, swimming costume, 20p coin for the locker and towel.

Sport Development in conjunction with Regent Gymnastics Club will offer a structured gymnastics class with the emphasis of teaching the basic fundamental gymnastics skills and your child will have the opportunity to use the gymnastics apparatus; vault, bars, beam, floor, trampettes and inflatable air tracks that the Club has to offer. The programme is suitable for children of all abilities and experience levels. Please wear: tracksuit or similar and non marking trainers and thick socks. Please bring: plenty of water, a healthy snack and a towel. Please report to the gymnastics area in the Queens hall at fort Regent.

Kayak Courses for Young People & Families

All equipment is supplied – including wetsuits.

Have fun kayaking both on and in the water with Jersey Kayak Adventures. Our sit-on-top kayaks are versatile and fun craft which allow rapid progression and build confidence. We also offer the opportunity to gain BCU PaddlePower certificates. To encourage children’s maximum enjoyment we introduce young people to paddle sports by using correctly sized youth wetsuits, kayaks and paddles. Our courses operate with a narrow age range, so your child gets a better experience with other like minded children.

All courses run with qualified and experienced local kayak staff afloat, who have undergone Police checks. Each course aims to operate from different venues during the week to allow for weather conditions and give a different experience of the coastline. Maximum of 10 children with two staff. Children should be water confident and expect to get wet! All equipment is supplied – including wetsuits.

The course is aimed at those who have never tried scuba diving before and will help participants learn how to swim efficiently with fins and their diving gear and gain confidence in using the equipment and communicating effectively. A fantastic introduction to the sport.

This is a progression from the taster sessions and participants must have attended a scuba taster or be able to show they have been scuba diving before. Divers will learn how to set up your scuba equipment, learn how to use regulatory recovery, buoyancy control and mask clearing whilst completing their dives.

4 DAY SCUBA COURSE

The 4 day course is for children in year 5 and above who have previously attended a scuba taster session with us. This course provides them with an opportunity to build on their existing skills and knowledge of scuba diving. Divers will develop throughout the week by taking part in a range of activities including skill circuits. Each day involves an interactive theory session either in the classroom or outside, followed by a dive in the pool to put their newfound knowledge into practice. For all Scuba courses, children will require a swimming costume, towel, 20p for the locker, healthy snacks, plenty to drink, a t-shirt or rash vest to wear in the pool. Children may bring wetsuits if they have them. Children should be competent swimmers able to swim 50m in deep water (2 lengths of Les Quennevais, Langford or the Aquasplash). Because of the ratios required to monitor the divers, children will spend some time swimming without diving equipment during each session. There is a requirement for a PADI medical questionnaire to be completed by all participants. This must be downloaded from www.gov.je/sport and follow ‘school holiday sport courses for children’ and click on ‘scuba diving’. Some medical conditions my prevent children from participating in scuba diving. If this is the case, instructors will let you know when they receive your form. Children to meet with instructors in the top foyer at Langford Sport Centre.

COURSES The year 1-4 course offers an introduction to the core netball skills and the rules of the game through fun games. The year 5-6 course will develop core skills, positional and game awareness through practices focused on team work and enjoyment. Coaches will be on site from 8.30am–3.30pm for an earlier drop off/ later collection option. Can children please wear suitable sports clothing and footwear and bring plenty to drink and eat for lunch and break times.

The Royal Life Saving Society’s National Pool Lifeguard Qualification is a professional qualification valid for 2 years after date of assessment. In order to maintain the qualification it is essential that you attend lifeguard training on a regular basis. You are required to have 20 hours logged training in order to re-take the exam. It is suitable for competent swimmers only aged 16 years and over. 100% attendance is required. Applications are processed on a first come, first served basis. The course covers topics such as resuscitation, pool management, defibrillation, spinal injury, first aid and water based rescues. All course materials and assessment fees are included. Assessment times will be arranged during the course. Please bring: Shorts and T-shirt to swim in, swimming costume, 2 towels, £1 coin for the locker, plenty to drink and a packed lunch with snacks for throughout the day. Jersey’s summer music and activities course!

20th - 25th July 2015 A fun and inspirational summer music course run by the Jersey Academy of Music, combining musical mornings with activity-packed afternoons. The course is available for children aged 9-17 who play piano, strings, brass, percussion, saxophone, or flute. Open island-wide, we welcome children of all playing levels from beginner to advanced level.

Each morning from 9am-1pm music tuition takes place, incorporating one-to-one lessons, chamber music coaching, and group workshops.

After the music is finished each morning, students can enjoy a picnic lunch on the lawn before the afternoon’s activities, including: Jersey Seafaris An opportunity to experience some high-speed thrills with Jersey Seafaris at St. Brelade’s Bay. Creepy Valley An afternoon of activities including Zip Wire and King Swing with Creepy Valley at Les Ormes.

Concerts will take place during the week, involving both the teaching faculty and the students.

Aquasplash An afternoon of swimming and fun at Jersey’s Aquasplash pool with waterslides.

Children need a road worthy bike, a cycle helmet that fits them that is up to EU standards and must be able to ride their bike (for instance ride with one hand without an undue wobble). Bikes will be checked and any defects will need to be rectified before the next attendance. Children should meet the instructors in the rear car park at Les Quennevais Sports Centre. The course includes road riding in traffic. There is also a theory test and some homework to be completed. Children must attend all lessons to gain the certificate. Please wear: clothes appropriate for the weather conditions. Please bring: a small rucksack with a drink, snack and sun protection cream.

Sessions will be focussed on Shot Skills (Technique ), Footwork, Routines/Tactics & Fun based Games. Please report to the coaches in the foyer area at the Gilson Hall, La Pouqalaye 10 mins before the session start time. All sessions can cater for players of all abilities and experience levels, so don’t worry if you are a beginner. The 5 day course will go in to more detail and an interest in racket sports is essential. Please wear: indoor sports clothing and bring a towel and water bottle. You must bring: a pair of clean non marking indoor shoes to change into once you get into the hall.

TERM TIME CASUAL ACTIVITIES - Come along for loads of fun! TRAMPOLINES, BADMINTON AND TABLE TENNIS at Fort Regent, Queens Hall. School years 3-10. £2.50 per session – pay at reception. Every Tuesday and Thursday (4.30pm to 5.30pm)
