DAY 01 22nd SEP (MON) ATHENS / DISTOMO / ARACHOVA On arrival at Athens Intl Airport, be met by your English-Speaking driver escort and then drive onwards to the village of Distomo where we marvel at the Distomo Memorial, built by Aggelika Korovessi in remembrance of the Distomo massacre of the Nazi war during the Axis occupation of Greece in World War II. Then, we continue to the Monastery of Hosios Loukas, designated a UNESCO World Heritage site. The Byzantine monastery is built on the scenic slopes of Mount Helicon and was founded in the early 10th Century by the hermit Venerable St Luke. Largest of the three monasteries including Daphnion and Nea Moni, it is one of the finest Byzantine monasteries ever built and well-preserved till this day. Thereafter, we drive to Arachova where we will stay for the night.

Visit the legendary Temple of Apollo, where the mysterious Oracle of Delphi breathed her enigmatic ‘words’. Continuing north, we stop at Thermopylae, site of one of history’s most famous last stands in 480BC where King Leonidas and his 300 Spartans were vanquished. We then continue through the market town of Trikala to Kalambaka. Enjoy an unique dining experience tonight.

DAY 03 24th SEP (WED) KALAMBAKA / PAPIGO Early morning rise this morning as we admire the sunrise over the Monasteries of Meteora. Enjoy light breakfast and coffee as we learn some interesting snippets. Thereafter, we visit the Monasteries “Moni Agias Triadas” and “Moni Megalou Meteorou”, incredibly perched on top of pinnacles of rock and enjoy the stunning views over the Peneios Valley. Later, we leave Meteora and continue our journey to the Zagoria area through the Egnatia Highway. Arrive into the Aristi village and check in into your beautiful hotel.

We visit the Acropolis, designated an UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the most iconic ancient sites of the classical world. Explore the Parthenon, dedicated to the maiden goddess Athena. Thereafter, we continue to visit the Acropolis Museum which showcases artefacts and relics from the archaeological site of the Acropolis.

We then continue to the site of the Temple of Olympian Zeus, a colossal ruined temple dedicated to Zeus, king of the Olympian gods. From there, we visit the Panathinaiko Stadium where the first modern Olympics were held and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, built to commemorate the endeavours of Greek soldiers during the WWI. We end our tour in atmospheric Plaka where there is an abundance of restaurants, taverns, shops and cafes. DAY 08 29th SEP (MON) SANTORINI Today is at leisure to explore Santorini, probably the most breath-taking of all Greek islands. Santorini is a natural masterpiece indeed , spun from the earth’s heart. Around 1500 B.C., a volcanic eruption destroyed the center of the island, leaving a crescent shaped rim of cliffs around a harbor formed in the volcano’s caldera, where the town of Fira sits today. Fira is a site not to forget: whitewashed houses, narrow streets, open-air cafes and glittering boutiques cling to these cliffs, accessible by cable car or donkey. Consider visiting the most important archaeological site of Akrotiri, where famous paintings such as the “boxers” and “fisherman” where found.
