Overall Arrests
Compared to September, bushfires were significantly reduced with only 1 small outbreak attended to by the teams, which can be contributed to the start of the rains in the Tsavo Conservation Area. Similarly, human-elephant conflict saw fewer cases during October with only 12 elephants being redirected out of community areas and back into the safety of the Parks. In total 22 arrests were made in October, the majority of which were for illegal livestock herding, harvesting and logging, whilst 4 bushmeat poachers were successfully arrested and charged. 2 of these poachers were caught red-handed with a live pangolin, which the teams were able to safely release back into the park where it was found. Other rescues during the month included a dikdik and a buffalo. 4 veterinary treatments took place in October including 3 giraffe treatments; sadly, bushmeat poaching for giraffe was a reoccurring theme this month, but the teams were glad to successfully treat these 3 cases treating injuries and removing snares. 1 elephant treatment was also attended to by the teams. The Ziwani team were on annual leave during October whilst the Burra and Mobile teams were operating for only part of the month with the rest of the teams on full duty.
