This work is the product from the interest in investigating environmental issues in the city of Bogotá and proposing solutions f rom a post-human architectural perspective. The project is located in Ladrillera Alemana, an infrastructure dedicated to mining and industrial transformation of raw materials for construction materials. Due to its historical activity, it has generated a series of problematics and scars in the communities of the territory, historically affected by the activities of this industry.

In this work, the historical brickwork is commemorated as the imprint of the territory’s past. The aim is to build a social construction from the recognition of the territory’s past and present, generating stronger and more prepared communities to face future challenges. This proposes a new vision of heritage interventions, considering empty spaces of memory and monuments, to commemorate history.

Therefore, the Usme Bio-Generative Park project is an environmental, and social intervention that seeks to improve the quality of life for surrounding communities by proposing strategies that encourage rethinking and evaluating brick industries worldwide.

A survey was made recognizing plant bodies and the mining front, leading to the conclusion that natural revegetation processes have taken place since 2013 due to the cessation of mining activities.

Generation of edoded soils

Similarly, a current and historical topographic survey was made with the purpose of comparing information and determining that 5,000,000 tons of clay have been extracted from the territory since 1960.

The feedback loop tool is understood as a way to comprehend the consequences of the process of the Ladrillera Alemana, viewed from the perspectives of air pollution, deforestation, contamination of water sources, and geomorphological alterations. This involves understanding the actions of the brickyards and acknowledging their environmental impact.

An urban study of traditional uses was made to justify the productive transition, considering that industrial use is incompatible with the structure of uses with the rest of the territory.

The Project is about the re-writing of an industrial site in Bogota, dedicated to the extraction and processing of raw materials into construction materials, the intensive use of the has resulted in a degraded ecosystem and also a fragmented community.

The proposal is a commemoration of the historic brick-making activities by recognizing the grounds and signification the industrial buildings.

Urban Renewal Project in the northwest of Bogotá, an area of underused land and urban impact resulting from the migration of residents from the area to areas further north of the city or in suburban settlements. This has led to problems of housing abandonment and urban degradation.

In recent years, around 2010, there have been dynamics of intensified uses, such as the expansion of university entities in the area and the emergence of new educational institutions.

In the background, there have been dynamics of collective organization of artists who settle in the territory, forming the San Felipe area as the artistic district of the city. These two factors occurred due to the high supply and low prices of land in this portion of the city. Thus, these two previous factors led to the need for housing for both populations, so over the years, there have been very specific processes of densification within the territory. Although they respond to the future housing needs, they could lead to gentrification issues for the artistic population.

The proposal was made through the project to protect and reinforce each of the dynamics previously described within the territory. These dynamics could also be articulated with territorial preexistences, such as the financial area of Calle 72 and the automotive mechanical cluster of “7 de agosto.”

Taking into account all the inter scale dynamics proposed in recent years affecting the project, such as the Bogotá metro line passing through Avenida Caracas and the possible future line along Calle 80.

A series of equipment elements, housing, public spaces, green areas, and tactical urbanism pieces are proposed.

These elements lead to the organizational process of developing educational institutions, an artistic hub, and housing that could be articulated to generate an Orange Development territory.

Definition of the role and mode of intervention in the territory of artistic, educational, and housing dynamics, taking into account their evolution up to the present day as specific elements that function in a unitary and separate manner.

This response is more aligned with the dynamics of the city’s political subdivision than with the dynamics of the urban landscape in transition.

This is represented through the travel corridor of Avenida Caracas / Autopista Norte, serving as the primary link between the San Felipe territory and the city. This route presents an opportunity to enhance the development of this urban piece.

Proposals for public spaces through the “block breaking” process, where abandoned lots without heritage value are used. These pieces are replaced by usable public spaces, and the inner areas of the blocks would become public spaces. This process aims to create connections between buildings, at the same time, establish points of stay within pedestrian transit areas.

It is important to highlight how these “cracked” spaces in the center of the blocks can serve as both recreational and stay areas through modular architectural elements.

These elements can be used for exhibitions as well as for businesses related to cultural dynamics in the territory.

Experimental Architecture Project in which remediations and improvement processes were proposed for the natural environment of the Ciénaga Grande de Santa Marta. This is a natural environment that has been impacted and devastated by anthropic intervention, challenging us to develop landscape architecture proposals with post-humanist way of thinking. This means designing not only for humans but also considering macro and micro-scale species in ecosystem.

The process begins with the characterization of problems, understanding the main elements of the issue, utopia future scenarios, and the formulation of “phylogenetic architecture” species proposals that respond to the dynamics of future scenarios. This process is called “Transcalar Emergent Bio-Remediation.”

The architectural definition process was applied to transform these “phylogenetic” species into an “epigenetic” state, as the materialization process becomes more complex. This involves studying the spatial characteristics and material qualities of other living beings in the territory.

Architectural definition process of each species, when acting together, generates a trans-species habitable environment in a territory that has lost its ability to sustain life due to anthropic actions. For this reason, five “epigenetic” species were proposed, specifying the type of architecture needed for each species, the natural or synthetic materials required, and finally, the technologies contained within these architectures.

Urban redevelopment project in Cambridge, MA, a city adjacent to Boston known for internationally recognized educational institutions such as Harvard and MIT. Serving as a city that embodies innovation, creativity, and development, it has attracted young and intelligent minds f rom all over, establishing itself as an educational HUB. Due to being a territory with migrant populations, these areas have become desirable for the market, absorbing unused spaces or historic houses in the city. In that order of ideas a lot in Cambridgeport with a predominantly commercial area facing the Charles River and Magazine Beach Park, designated for redevelopment.

A characterization of the territory’s components was conducted, including connections to major educational centers and one of Massachusetts’ main routes, Memorial Drive, linking south to Boston and north to Waltham. With such a well-located site, commercial use undervalues the plot, rendering the urban space primarily for daytime activities that do not function during the night.

Therefore, a proposal for diversified uses within the area is presented, suggesting green spaces, low-density housing areas, and mixed-use buildings. Commercial spaces occupy the lower levels, while housing is situated on the upper floors.

Urban Renewal Project in Williamsburg, NY, an area of the city known for its cultural and historical heritage as a convergence territory of populations. There has been a contemporary change in the territory, transitioning from a highly industrialized riverf ront that caused pollution to the river and created unfriendly pedestrian areas. This was replaced by Domino Park on the riverfront, which soon attracted major real estate projects that changed the face of the territory and, its users. Initiating gentrification processes by replacing cultural and historical elements with more globalized architectures.

Due to the dynamics of gentrification and densification, the problem of a lack of public space and parks in this area has emphasized due to the exponential population growth the city has experienced. This has resulted in respiratory problems and a deficiency in providing spaces for development and recreation for the population, particularly impacting the younger residents.

Given these identified main issues in the territory, the Williamsburg area was characterized, focusing on typifying the different scales of its components that could be modified or replaced within the territory. As a result a scenario was proposed: “What if Williamsburg develops through river dynamics and green spaces?”

Terraced green spaces and urban agriculture were proposed to provide interactive green spaces in height and urban caps, while also promoting urban agriculture to bring sustainability dynamics closer to the urban area. This would improve air quality through vegetate filtering.

Cultural promotion of the territory was also proposed through art district areas, enhancing knowledge and expression of the cultural heritage. Combined with proposals for green and recreational areas, this would result in a learning and activity-oriented territory that enhances the inhabitants perception of identity in relation to the territory.

Finally, it was proposed to continue the territory’s renewal processes through high-density architectural elements along the riverf ront and main roads. These elements would not only serve residential purposes but also mixeduse functions, responding to the dynamics of public and walkable spaces, including commerce, services, and activities on ground levels to make the territory’s edges more active.

In conclusion, the proposal envisions Williamsburg as a cultural, sustainable, and walkable area, reinforcing the changes that have been occurring in the territory while being more considerate of historical elements and areas.

Through the infrastructure of the Williamsburg Bridge connecting Brooklyn to Manhattan, the phenomenon of densification in areas surrounding the bridge can be observed.

Given the demographic transition and the impact of globalization, one can understand the loss or deterioration of urban elements.

Tangential interactions or complete disconnection within the inter-scale dynamics of urban components, the conglomeration of functions is fragmenting the urban landscape.

The current state reveals a typological fracture between physical and virtual elements, maintaining two disconnected urban dynamics.

The project idea is to showcase natural processes on the landscape while modifying it. To illustrate these changes, the degradation of some logs and leaf litter in the Mary Olive Thomas forest at Auburn University was selected. The project involves installing wooden boxes that act as boundaries to highlight the degradation and decomposition processes of nature, along with the emergence of other life forms in the landscape, such as fungi and lichen—key elements in the degradation of organic matter.

The process began with visualizing the landscape processes, followed by selecting one to emphasize over others. Next, the wooden boxes were assembled, serving as boundaries and essential guides to showcase the decomposition processes in the landscape.

The subsequent plans and sections depict the locations of the decomposer boxes, the configuration of variabilities in moisture and organic material, and the expected results of the experiment.

The main use of the site is the bus and pedestrian transit, altough the site have numerous elements to stay, they remain un-used.

The process consisted in the photographic collection of details in the site and after the building of the collage that showed the different shifts, flows and movements in the landscape.
