Fun Places To Take The Kids In Airdrie

With summer on its way, it’s always a good idea to get the kids out of the house to explore their surroundings and have some fun! In today’s blog, I will discuss the various places you can take the children in and around the Airdrie area to keep them entertained

John Smith’s Pool

Whether your child still needs lessons, or is an adequate swimmer, going to the local swimming pool is one part of childhood, that you remember for a lifetime The local swimming pool here in Airdrie, is John Smith’s which initially opened in 1935. This means that many generations of people in Airdrie have learnt to swim here The centre also has a steam room and sauna, so whilst the kids are swimming, the adults can also find some time to relax and chill out If you wish for your child to have lessons here, then there are various different sessions that you can get them involved in, along with parent-child classes For more information about times and admission fees, visit their website here

Airdrie Library

I know that older kids and teenagers may not be so interested in reading, but recently there has been a resurgence in reading through TikTok and more specifically “BookTok”. With the way times are now, children spend more and more time looking at screens, endlessly scrolly through mind-boggling games and social media Reading is a great way to get your kids off their phones and immerse themselves in their imagination. Getting your child to get into reading can be tricky, but local libraries can be a big help The process of going out with the family, going through thousands of books, and spending time finding out what you’re interested in can make the thought of reading a lot more fun.

Whether your child is young and only just reading, a pre-teen comic lover, or a young adult getting into romance or fantasy novels, you can find them all in one place at Airdrie Library. One

of the biggest benefits of libraries is that they are free to join as a member, and you can borrow as many books as you like, so long as you remember to return them!

The library also has various different clubs that you can join and meet with the local community. On Thursdays they offer two different clubs called “BookBug”, one for babies up to 18 months old, and one for toddlers up to 4 years old Both of these clubs are the perfect way to get your child into books and reading before they head off to school. They also have a regular book club once a month on Thursday, where you can meet up and discuss books, this club is available to all ages Take a look at what other services they offer here

Crazy Castle Soft Play

Let’s face it, as a parent sometimes you just need to wear your children out and get some peace and quiet time Soft play is the best way to do this! Crazy Castle Soft Play is Airdrie’s local soft play centre and is great for young children. One of the great things about this play area is that they offer discounted rates for childminders If you provide proof that you are a registered childminder, then all children, no matter what age would only cost £3 each for 2 hours of play. Additionally to this, if you choose to have food at the play centre, for two hours of play as well as a kid's meal, it will be £4 95 each

If your child's birthday is coming up, the Crazy Castle Soft Play offer birthday parties! Their party packages include a buffet in a private room, party dances and games, as well free run of the soft play section.

M & D’s Scotland’s Theme Park

Just a 20-minute drive away from Airdrie, you will find a magical place known as Scotland’s theme park. This theme park is perfect for families with children of all ages, with thrilling rides for the older kids, and fun fair-style rides for the little ones Theme parks can also be fun for adults too, I’m sure that some of you will be just as excited as the kids at the thought of flying high on the “Captain's Curse” If you plan on visiting the park, don’t forget to pack a water poncho for when you come face to face with the “White Water Rapids” and “Moby’s Revenge”

Some of the other memorable rides at the park include the “Miami Rip Tide”, which is a thrill ride that will leave you spinning Another one of the park's thrilling attractions is the “Walk The Plank” sky trail. Although this attraction is not included in the price of the wristband, it is definitely worth the extra money The attraction sits 30ft high and consists of a rope ladder and swinging bridges. It is definitely not for the faint-hearted.

Amazonia

Amazonia is Scotland’s Indoor Tropical Rainforest, which is also located at the theme park, but is a separate attraction by M & D This attraction is a great way to have your kids learn about animals, by seeing them in real life and learning all about their habitats, and they have different types of animals living at the centre

In the rainforest, they have amphibians, fish, mammals, reptiles and many more they also have a handling area, where you can come up close and personal with some of the animals. These animals include pythons, tarantulas, bearded dragons and many other exotic animals For more information on Amazonia, visit their website here.
