GREELY MYATT Cosmic Dust

Greely: Cosmic Dust is a whimsical journey through a celestial circus, where over 100 stars come to life in a riotous symphony of materials. This cosmic carnival is a merry medley of wood, metal, plastic, neon, bottle rockets and a kaleidoscopic array of steel, aluminum rods, tree branches, vines, rose stems, rope, wire, yardsticks and various other materials, each telling its own unique Story.

These celestial actors, ranging from a humble 3 inches to a towering 24 feet, are not content to merely twinkle in the night sky. No, they’ve descended to Earth to David Lusk Gallery to showcase their playful versatility, adopting a variety of poses that defy the conventional norms of starry existence. Some stand proudly, others lean in charming nonchalance, a few dare to hang in mid-air, while some engage in gravity-defying wall-mounted acrobatics.

What makes this cosmic carnival even more enchanting is the origin story of these stellar jesters. Assembled from the very essence of the cosmos, these stars are made from cosmic dust that audaciously tumbled from the heavens above into my studio. As we gaze upon this celestial comedy, we are not just witnesses to an artistic ensemble but participants in the universal joke hidden within this eclectic installation.

Amidst the laughter and spectacle, consider the ubiquitous nature of the star – a symbol that transcends cultures and epochs, laden with myriad meanings. From ancient mythology to modern science, the star has been a constant companion in the human narrative. It signifies dreams, aspirations, guidance, and even the interconnectedness of all things in the vast cosmic tapestry. The stars in this carnival, in their diverse forms and materials, echo the rich tapestry of meanings that stars carry across time and space.

So, step right up and join me in the laughter – a laughter that echoes through the galaxies, carried by the whimsical creations that have descended to DLG. -- GM 1/24
