Following are comments from Craig Huitema, a resident of Mission Hills, who eloquently shared his thoughts on what the Navy is proposing and its obvious flaws.

“The City of San Diego and the Navy are planning an enormous redevelopment project of the current NAVWAR site near Old Town. Since much of NAVWAR’s mission is oriented around cyber security, it makes sense to consider this subject in the context of the current recommendation and available alternatives.

There are five alternative approaches that are under consideration, with the current recommendation being Alternative 4, in which private developers pay for construction of NAVWAR facilities in exchange for the opportunity to build residential, office, retail and hotel developments. There is a transit center as well. My opinion is that this recommendation will adversely impact San Diego, and decision makers need to instead move forward with Alternative 1, in which the Navy simply pays to rebuild NAVWAR facilities.

Let’s elaborate on Alternative 4. This recommendation will rebuild NAVWAR facilities and collocate them with: • 10,000 residential units • 2,058,750 square feet of commercial space • Two hotels with 450 total rooms • 433,750 square feet of retail space • 109 buildings: two low-rise, 19 low to mid-rise, 51 mid-rise, 35 high-rise, 2 standalone parking structures • Tallest buildings up to 350 feet, which is approximately 32 floors • On-site transit facility

In cyber security, two key objectives are generalizable to many endeavors, and certainly to this project: • Reduce the attack surface • Mitigate risk Given the mission, activities, intellectual property and resources at NAVWAR, it seems it would represent a high value target to adversaries – both in the physical world, as well as the cyber world. Collocating such a facility with a high- density population of civilians distributed across a mix of residential, retail and transportation centers seems diametrically opposed to the objectives above.

Regardless of how strong the technology is, people are frequently the reason bad actors wield successful attacks. Breaches, ransomware, and all the other things we see in the news on an all-too frequent basis often result from exploitation of the primary vulnerability in any organization – its people. Making hotels, high density housing and a transportation center co-tenants with NAVWAR would make it far easier to exploit people and technology.

There are a multitude of stories in popular publications, academic/ scientific journals, hacker forums, etc. documenting how physical proximity is a necessary prerequisite to certain types of cyber-attacks. There are multiple products available to the public that facilitate this activity. One can only imagine the tools sophisticated state actors would use.

The point is, no matter how good the people and technology of NAVWAR are, there are vulnerabilities. Those vulnerabilities can and will be exploited.

Collocating NAVWAR with tenants that include hotels, high density housing/ retail and a transportation center seems like a cyber defender’s nightmare.

Doing so would expand the bad guy’s toolkit of tactics, techniques and procedures, and would both: • Expand the attack surface • Increase risk The people that are trying to prevent, defend against and respond to those 8 million attacks per day have a tough job. Given the information I have seen on this project, I believe that Alternatives 2 – 5 will make that job tougher.

This is one of many reasons I support Alternative 1 – the only Alternative in which NAVWAR is the only tenant on NAVWAR property.”

I thank Craig for his well-constructed comments about the realities of Alternatives 2-5. And, as stated by members of Save San Diego’s Character, “Now is the time to speak out in opposition of Alternatives 2-5 and support Alternative 1 prior to the Friday, October 8 deadline of The California Coastal Commission. Otherwise, the project will be considered a ‘consent’ item on the agenda which will be approved without comment.”

Diane Powers’ Bazaar del Mundo and Casa de Pico Celebrate 50 Years in San Diego Fifty years ago, Diane Powers had a vision: create a unique shopping and dining experience in San Diego that would replicate the beautiful bazaars in Mexico she so admired.

That vision resulted in Bazaar del Mundo – a vibrant attraction that drew thousands of visitors to San Diego’s historic Old Town State Park every year.

Today, Powers’ popular Bazaar del Mundo Shops in Old Town and Casa de Pico restaurant in La Mesa’s Grossmont Center are gearing up to celebrate their 50-year anniversary in a festive and powerful way. The 50th anniversary celebration will begin on November 4 through November 7. Customers can enjoy vibrant fiestas at both the Bazaar del Mundo Shops and at Casa de Pico.

This November marks a milestone for our businesses,” says owner and operator Diane Powers. “We couldn’t have done it without our devoted customers and longtime dedicated staff, whose continued support has been the foundation of our success.”

Guests are invited to celebrate at “Bazaar del Mundo’s 50th Anniversary Fiesta and Marketplace” that will begin on November 4, Thursday at 11 a.m. with a kickoff celebration at 6 p.m. with VIP guests, mariachi, folklorico dancers and longtime Bazaar del Mundo favorite TINKU (a Latin American folk band), birthday cake, and other surprises.

For the occasion, the restaurant will offer a special anniversary menu, crafted by Powers and longtime manager Lino Rodarte, that will include customer-favorites like the Cheese Crisp – a popular item that has been on the menu since opening in 1971.

Opened in 1971, Bazaar del Mundo has been recognized by the California Department of Tourism, the San Diego Convention and Visitors Bureau (now the San Diego Tourism Authority), the San Diego Restaurant Association, the American Institute of Architects and numerous others for outstanding contributions to culture, design, tourism and food.

Casa de Pico was Powers’ first restaurant and originally located within Old Town State Park. Powers leased the site of the rundown and boarded-up Casa de Pico Motel from the State and began a legendary transformation of the space to create Bazaar del Mundo, a colorful complex of shops and restaurants, including Casa de Pico.

Casa de Pico relocated to La Mesa’s Grossmont Center in 2005 and is frequently voted the “Best Mexican Restaurant” and “Best Margaritas” in San Diego County by the readers of The San Diego Union-Tribune, La Mesa Courier, East County Californian and more.

Old Town San Diego Celebrates Dia de Los Muertos The annual Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) will be celebrated in Old Town on November 2, 2021. This free event will include the traditional candlelight procession starting at Sundown, beginning in front of the Immaculate Conception Church, located at San Diego Avenue and Twiggs Street. The procession will travel down San Diego Avenue to

El Campo Santo Cemetery.

Many restaurants, businesses, museums, and shops will be creating over 50 traditional and contemporary Día de los Muertos altars (ofrendas). Unique ofrendas will honor historic Old Town figures, as well as more current stories. A public ofrenda will be in El Campo cemetery where visitors are encouraged to add their own

mementos, photos, and written tributes to loved ones.

Originating in Mexico, Día de los Muertos is a celebration to remember and honor those who have departed. On this day in Mexico, the streets near cemeteries are filled with decorations, flowers, candy calaveras and parades. Mexican families create special altars displaying offerings

of food, candles, incense, ochre yellow marigolds, and photos of departed loved ones.

The celebration will continue throughout Old Town, restaurants will be providing special Día de los Muertos menus with drink specials featuring Patron Tequila and Cointreau liqueur, live music, and activities for the entire family, including traditional face painting, mask making and many more.

Privacy in Today’s Social Media World

By Rick Brooks At Blankinship & Foster, we spend a LOT of time thinking about security and privacy to protect our clients’ hardearned assets. So, when I set up a Venmo account recently to pay a buddy of mine for some football tickets, I was horrified by the amount of information available publicly.

As I was setting up the account, the first thing it asked me to do was to sync all of my phone contacts with Venmo. I was in a hurry and hit yes without thinking too much about it. In the blink of an eye, I saw that one friend had used Venmo the night before to order pizza and another had been paid for acupuncture services. Several times, in fact, and I could see who paid her for it. I could see who was doing housekeeping for whom. You get the idea.

I can’t think of anyone I know who would be happy with this level of public insight into their personal finances (including a couple of the people whose activity I am able to see). Forgetting for the moment whether you want the world to know about your acupuncture treatments, having that much information visible is flat out dangerous.

For starters, hackers and criminals use information in social media to better understand their targets. The profile page on social media platforms like Facebook contain a wealth of information, often including full names, addresses, date of birth, hometown, where you work, went to school, etc. All of this can be used to more narrowly

target scams directed at you.

This information can also be used to trick others into giving up information about you, or to scam your friends using your background data. One of the most obvious vulnerabilities includes things like public vacation posts on Facebook or Instagram, which lets crooks know when you’re away from your home.

Hackers use friend requests to gain access to your information on sites like LinkedIn, Facebook and others. In fact, LinkedIn is one of the top places that hackers research their targets. They use posts and profile information to tailor phishing and other attacks.

They also use it to access your friends’ network. And if they can learn enough about you to impersonate you to your friends, they have a powerful attack, since most people will click on links sent from friends.

This Social Engineering (learning about a target from social media posts) is very subtle but also very pervasive. Most passwords are too simple, like a child or pet’s name; information which is often available on social media. Automated tools allow hackers to try these passwords with number combinations like “Fido123, Fido1234, etc.” More importantly, the answers to a lot of challenge questions like “where were you born” or “what high school did you attend” are also available.

Once a hacker has access to your accounts, they can use that information to steal money or other personal data (in order to steal money). Schwab has reported a significant increase in cases where a client’s email account was hacked then the hacker sent suspicious requests for cash transfers. Hackers who do

this will often monitor a hacked account for some time in order to learn more about their target in order to create better scams.

Social media can be great fun, yet should always be viewed somewhat skeptically. Carefully review the privacy settings to ensure that your information stays as private as possible.

Review the information you’ve shared and ask yourself if maybe you’ve put too much information online. For example, would “San Franciso Bay Area” be better than “Sausalito, CA” for hometown?

If possible, enable two factor authentication for any website that can access your finances.

This typically involves receiving a text message with a code that you enter after entering your password. This provides an additional layer of security even if your password has been compromised.

San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance Raises Rare Egyptian Vulture After more than four decades of successfully breeding, rearing and introducing California condors and other vultures back into their native habitats, San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance is ushering in a new era of vulture conservation.

Wildlife care specialists at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park have begun hatching and raising the Western Egyptian vulture, a species native to southern Europe, Asia and northern Africa. Listed as Endangered on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species, very few of these rare birds live in the United States—and this novel breeding program represents new hope for increasing the conservation population of the species in North America.

This is an endangered species with a rapidly declining population trend, as is the plight of many vulture species,” said Lisa Peterson, executive director of the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. “Increasing the number of individual birds and maintaining genetic diversity in North America is an extremely important part of our work. As Egyptian vulture numbers continue to decline in

their native habitat, the genetic line of every individual becomes increasingly more important to the continuation of this species.”

A chick named Jamila was successfully hatched earlier this

year, and she is the offspring of the only Western Egyptian vulture breeding pair in North America. She is also the first hatchling of the species in San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance’s 105

- year - history. To ensure Jamila’s survival after hatching, wildlife care specialists used 40 years of experience conserving threatened vultures by puppet rearing her—a practice where they passed food to Jamila from the beak of a lifelike hand puppet resembling an adult vulture. This care process is particularly valuable to the successful rearing of a chick from a species with such low population numbers, and with inexperienced parents. It also ensures that the chick not only receives proper care, but also does not form a bond with humans.

The well - known California condor program is a noteworthy conservation success story as it not only allowed scientists to study the species, but also helped them develop and enhance the systems necessary to preserve a vital vulture species that was near extinction. California condors are just one of 19 of the world’s 23 vulture species that San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance has cared for, and the Egyptian vulture is the 11th species that has successfully bred at the San Diego Zoo and San Diego Zoo Safari Park.

International Film Festival Runs Through October 2021 The 2021 San Diego International Film Festival runs from Thursday, October 14 through Sunday, October 24, and is produced by the San Diego Film Foundation. The film slate for their 20th Anniversary screens the top anticipated films of the year. Festival attendees are able to enjoy a hybrid of in-person and virtual events. Propagation of Bougainvillea

By Barb Strona Some of you know that October is my birthday month. And, since we didn’t meet over the summer season, I decided to use this article to chat about what is currently of importance to me.

In the late 1960s, San Diego State had climbing bougainvillea cascading down a hill to the parking lot just off I-8. It was absolutely beautiful and became the inspiration for planting the rest of my plants at the beginning of the canyon slope, just beyond our house.

Many people dislike bougainvillea, particularly if they have a swimming pool. The bracts, the colored petals surrounding the tiny flowers, die and fall to the ground, leaving a profusion of fluffy but messy debris a few inches deep. I, however, love this about them. This debris is light, easy to rake, and is no strain to carry a trash bin full up two flights of stairs.

It reminds me of raking the fallen autumn leaves in cold climates, but it is easier and still allows the fun of jumping and playing in them. (Yes, I still do that.)

When we purchased our current house, in 1971, I bought and planted several four-inch potted climbing bougainvillea plants. I believe I planted six or eight. In those days our canyon was more accessible, so I planted one a far distance down the slope. Periodically it still shows its blossoms, but the area is virtually impassable due to both erosion and lush growth. The rest of the plants we planted are a distance from the house so they could grow toward the canyon and away from the house. This was

intentional, because, with time, bougainvillea can play havoc with stucco and other structures.

Twice these plants have grown into trees; they were cut to a one to-two-foot height in 1980 when we first remodeled our house. The bougainvillea loved the stucco debris that apparently fertilized their stumps. That’s because within a fairly short period of time, they reached tree height again. I love seeing their brilliant color from across the canyon. In the morning, from my bed, I can see their magenta hue reflected onto the white stucco of the exterior wall of the dining room.

Over the past fifty years, our home

and the land surrounding it have undergone many transformations.

The area that used to lead to a meadow, just past the street two flights below West Montecito Way, became overgrown with trees and other plants. Some of the trees died and were economically very difficult to remove. After many attempts to have them removed, I gave up. I decided to block the view of the dead trees with bougainvillea.

I needed several plants and the least expensive I found were $17.00 each. Then I had a brainstorm. I decided to propagate my own plants.

I started with little disposable

pots, the kind you put in the ground. I trimmed many branches from our fifty-year-old trees and cut them into five-or-six-inch twigs.

Then I mixed potting soil, sand, and dirt from my yard as bedding for my babies. I dabbed Root Tone on the bottom of each twig, stuck one or two in each pot, watered them, and placed each pot in a Zip-lock baggie. These I placed in the fireplace (which we haven’t used since we had the chimney cleaned fifteen years ago). I closed the screen to keep the cats out.

The moisture from the soil condensed on the baggies and kept the baby plants alive. After several weeks, I removed the baggies and set the plants outdoors in the shade. After a couple of weeks, I carefully repotted them into larger pots or into large plastic glasses in which I poked drainage holes. By this time, about half of them had leaves; half did not.

Most of the leafless twigs were in a pot with a thriving baby plant, so I left them together to avoid disturbing any roots.

Three weeks ago, two of my babies had visible roots in the soil and more coming out of the bottoms of their pots. I paid someone to dig a trench and a deep hole which I filled with a mixture of the removed dirt, planting mix, and gravel. I planted my two babies and a bunch of euphorbia tirucalli (pencil cactus).

This morning I noticed two more twigs are nearly ready to be planted, and a few more have died. The twigs are all on our lower balcony which gets light but is covered. Unfortunately, the cats enjoy wandering amongst these plants, sometimes knocking them over, which has done very little for the plants’ health. I think I shall move these plastic containers of growing twigs onto the dirt of thriving tomatoes and flowers, which will prevent the cats from accessing them.

I am truly excited about the future of these bougainvillea plants, and hope they are not going to be victims. In a previous article, I did confess to being a serial killer of plants. Hopefully, that won’t happen this time.

Mission Hills Garden Club is having a pre-Halloween pumpkin planting garden party. It takes place from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday, October 24 at Mission Hills Nursery, located at 1525 Fort Stockton Drive. Cost is $15 for members and $20 for nonmembers. The fee includes plants and planting materials required for this fun and creative fall project.

Each participant will leave the event with a live fall planting to welcome trick-or-treaters to their door. Children must attend with their supervising adult.

Mechanical Figures Come to Life at the Fleet Science Center The Fleet Science Center is pleased to announce the opening of Mechanics Alive, featuring exhibits from the Cabaret Mechanical Theater. The engaging traveling exhibition gives visitors an up‐close look at a collection of wonderful automata. It opens October 9, 2021, at the Fleet Science Center in Balboa Park and will be on view through January 17, 2022. This exhibition is included with regular admission to the Fleet Science Center.

As visitors enter the curious world of Mechanics Alive, they are delighted with a fun-filled, interactive experience that combines science, technology, engineering, art and math (STEAM). This exhibition explores small, surreal worlds through fantastical and amusing mechanical sculptures known as automata.

The Old Globe Presents “Shutter Sisters” “Shutter Sisters,” written by Mansa Ra (“Too Heavy for Your Pocket”) and directed by Donya K. Celebrating Matt Hoyt By contributing writers Melissa Bell and Susan McNeil Schreyer Matt Hoyt, co-founder, co-owner and general manager of Mission Hills restaurant and bar Starlite, died Saturday, August 14, 2021. He was a beloved husband, brother, son, uncle, nephew, cousin to dozens, friend to too many to name, restaurateur, filmmaker, artist, musician, comedian, raconteur, and allaround merry-maker. He will be remembered with love and tears and laughter.

In 2007, Matt and two partners decided to create a special space in San Diego for friends and future friends to gather. They chose 3175 India Street and Matt called it Starlite. Despite the 2008 recession, Starlite quickly became a favorite restaurant destination. Fourteen years later, it still regularly tops the lists of recommended restaurants, and is credited with paving a path for the emergence of San Diego’s craft cocktail and farm-to-table food scene.

When Covid wreaked havoc on the restaurant industry, Matt threw his whole weight against the challenge of keeping Starlite open for its dedicated customers, and still managed to find time to help other San Diego restaurants and businesses navigate the ever-complicated documentation system for loans and relief.

Born to Sue and Ken Hoyt on October 13, 1975, Matt is mourned, adored, and remembered by his parents, his best friend and wife, Allison Bell Hoyt, his brothers Mark and Tim, their wives Sophy and Carlyn, his nephew and nieces Ethan Hoyt, Sadie Hoyt, Kinsley Hoyt, and Nola Winterbell, his in-laws Bob, Nancy, Andrew, and Melissa Bell, his large, loving extended family, and his many cherished friends.

Dubbed “Hurricane Hoyt,” Matt lived multiple lifetimes. In addition to co-founding the beloved Starlite, Matt created performance art, improv acts, short films, and music videos; helped friends acquire and build out businesses; popped up in television shows, video games, and on radio ads with his booming, joyful voice; and played an informal, and deeply vital role of connecting the artistic and creative communities of Southern California.

Matt got his start in the music scene two decades ago, fronting the band Turkey Mallet and working as a promoter and booker for El Cajon’s The Soul Kitchen, while still at Valhalla High School.

He would go on to become a consummate people connector, befriending musicians, artists, filmmakers, restaurateurs, gallery owners, and comedians. His boundless fervor for others’ creativity was infectious.

He also pursued his own wild artistic endeavors, such as developing “Talk Talk Show,” an all green green-screen absurdist television show and the episodic comedy “Antarctic...huh?” filmed in his backyard.

He loved nothing more than boisterous parties full of the people he loved, and he loved many people, but none so well as his wife, Allison. It was at one of those San Diego parties that he met Allison in 2005. They had their first date on December 11 of that year, and were rarely apart after that. The couple married in Palm Springs in 2010.

The two fed off each other’s energy – making each other laugh, pushing each other, and, most of all, supporting each other.

support a local store owner, celebrate an artist you love, hug your people, laugh hard and long, and never forget how sweet and precious and short this life is – just as Matt would have wanted.

To honor Matt, and to celebrate him, a retrospective of his work and his life will take place at 2 p.m., Sunday, October 10 at Bread & Salt, located at 1955 Julian Street, San Diego 92113.

Two-Day Event Celebrates American Indian Heritage in San Diego The San Diego American Indian Health Center (SDAIHC) will host its annual Balboa Park Pow Wow from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, October 2 and 3 at the corner of Park Boulevard and President’s Way. This year the event will be held in recognition of the late Saginaw Grant for his leadership and many contributions to the American Indian community. Everyone is welcome to attend this free, family-friendly event.

Pow Wow’s are traditional spiritual and cultural events which feature native drumming, singing, and dancing. For years, the American Indian community throughout the San Diego area has celebrated these traditions by gathering at the Balboa Park Pow Wow. Participants of all ages will be present from various American Indian/Alaskan Native Tribes, bands, and communities, and invite all to come and share in this wonderful experience.

During these gatherings, cultural traditions can be passed from generation to generation and serve as a learning experience for American Indian youth. Receives International Young Eco-Hero Award Kyle Tianshi, a 14-year-old from San Diego, is one of 25 young environmental activists from across the globe honored by Action For Nature (AFN) as a 2021 International Young Eco-Hero, an award that recognizes ecoconscious youth ages 8 to 16 who are taking crucial steps to solve tough environmental problems.

Kyle won the Innovator Award in the 8-14 year-old category for his project, NEREID and Clearwater Innovation.

Being immigrants from China, Kyle’s parents didn’t have clean, filtered drinking water when they grew up, so they never let him drink tap water. Curious about why they were so concerned, he started to research water pollution and learned that officials in his home state of California are in the process of adopting a standardized testing method for monitoring microplastics in drinking water.

However, measuring microscopic particles in water is expensive, making it inaccessible for many families. Determined to find an affordable and scalable solution, Kyle invented NEREID, a patent pending, portable microscopic particle detector that can rapidly find microplastics in water using a laser. This solution offers a low-cost alternative for families that do not have access to water filtration systems.

In addition to inventing this water filtration system, Kyle and his sister founded a nonprofit, Clearwater Innovation, that encourages

student environmental garage-lab research and generates awareness about the global water crisis. They have hosted 12 community outreach events in 2020, and have recruited 50 environmental advocates across 6 states to run beach clean-ups and raise their voices online to advocate for the environment.

“Kids like Kyle have shown that the next generation of leaders is here, and they are refusing to wait to solve the most pressing environmental challenges,” said Beryl Kay, president of Action For Nature, an international non-profit organization that encourages young people to nurture a love and respect for the Earth and to take personal action to improve the environment. “The projects that these young people created will not only have real, positive impacts on their communities, they will also help solve global climate challenges and inspire others – no matter what age – to consider what they can do to help.”

“There may be as high as 50 trillion microplastics in our seas and studies predict that 90 percent of our drinking water and tap water could contain microplastics. That’s why I was thrilled that my invention has the potential to create a real impact for families concerned about microplastics,” said Kyle Tianshi.

Ghost Ship Experience for a Family Friendly Halloween Weekend Maritime Museum of San Diego embraces the profound and puzzling mystery behind the 282ton brigantine Mary Celeste, famed as the ghost ship abandoned in 1872 - leaving researchers and maritime history buffs unable to solve how the vessel’s captain and crew went missing, with no signs of fire, explosion or other incidents.

Theories as to why the ship was abandoned range from crew mutiny, to conspiracy, to alien abduction, natural disaster or an alcohol explosion.

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Victorian author and acclaimed creator of fiction’s greatest detective, Sherlock Holmes, was called in to solve the mystery and was unable to – the only mystery he never solved. For this new Maritime Museum of San Diego experience, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle will return to the Mary Celeste (played by one of the Museum’s award-winning Living History education staff) to greet young visitors, guide them around the schooner Californian, a tall ship looking very similar to the Mary Celeste, to examine the evidence, and for help in solving the mystery that stymied him a century and a half ago. Visits to the Ghost ship Halloweenweekend experience are free and included with general admission ticket purchase.

The Maritime Museum of San Diego provides the perfect setting for a Halloween adventure.

According to Raymond Ashley, Ph.D., K.C.I., president/CEO of the Maritime Museum of San was an Diego, “Mary Celeste American brigantine which bears some resemblance to the Maritime Museum’s Californian.

After departing New York for Genoa, the Mary Celeste was

found completely abandoned and adrift off the Azores under partial sail in disheveled condition, the ship’s lifeboat gone, various evidence of a hasty departure, though no log or other written evidence of what happened could be found.” He adds enthusiastically, “We thought this would be a great opportunity to tap

into the creativity and imaginations our visitors have and enjoy some good fun at the same time.”

Still a mystery today, the Maritime Museum of San Diego invites young visitors 12 and under to solve the Mary Celeste mystery Halloween weekend, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, October 29, 30 and 31, 2021. Visitors to the Museum, open daily 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., will have the opportunity to board the official tall ship of the state, Californian, to learn from one of the Museum’s resident storytellers, and uncover clues before making their contest entry at the Museum Gift Shop located on the steam ferry Berkeley.

The Museum’s curatorial team will be judging entries for the contest and one lucky winner will be announced before Thanksgiving. The winner will receive a Maritime Museum of San Diego Tall Ship Adventure 4-hour sail experience for four, valued at $400.00. Tall Ship adventure sails aboard the schooner Californian are a unique opportunity to sail San Diego Bay aboard a replica of the gold rush era revenue cutter.

The San Diego Distillers Guild Fest returns from 6 to 10 p.m., Saturday, October 30 at The Lane, located at 900 Bayfront Court.
