Almost everybody in the world enjoys singing, whether it be alone in the shower or in front of thousands of adoring fans, singing can bring the individual plenty of pleasure. Of course, not all who sing are interested in creating a fantastic singing voice, after all, that would eliminate the concept of karaoke. However, for those who wish to nurture their raw singing talent, how do they go from being an amateur Friday night singer to taking center stage in Carnegie Hall? The old joke goes, how do you get to Carnegie Hall? Practice, practice and practice. In many ways, this old joke still rings true today. Practice will take you far but being taught by the best and practicing with the best will take you further. No longer, however, do budding singers have to fork out hundreds and thousands of pounds or dollars to find the best vocal coaches money can offer. Thanks to the advent of the internet, vocal coaches have becomes accessible to millions across the world. But can the internet really offer a truly effective method of learning to create that polished singing voice? A quick search on the Internet will reveal to you a host of products that all aim to teach you how to sing. Surely, it cannot be that simple can it? With almost one million web pages devoted to providing singing lessons and giving lessons on how to sing, how would you even begin to chose which site to go to? As with anything you're looking for online, wading through the masses of websites will reveal only about 10% of them to be of any use to. However, in this case you are looking for products that will deliver and for that, you will need a product with a reputation. It stands to reason that to be the best, you have to learn from the best, so when browsing through some of these sites that promise to teach you how to sing, pay close attention to who is marketing the product, who created the product and what 'system' the product uses. Doing this will reveal some of the more popular vocal coaching methods online, such as Mark W. Black's music theory teachings to Brett Manning's "Sing Success" program, both of which come with free samples loaded up onto the websites. Mark W. Black's Promethean Studios offers a wide range of musical theories and vocal coaching for fees ranging from one hundred dollars a month to fifty dollars every half hour for consultations. While this may seem expensive, this does offer one-to-one coaching. Brett Manning's highly acclaimed "Singing Success" offers twelve CDs and DVDs amongst other materials for a one off fee of two hundred dollars, giving the option of a payment plan. While cost is obviously an issue, the benefits of having a renowned teacher should weigh more heavily in your mind. With very little information revealed on Mark W. Black, other than his educational credentials, it's difficult to ascertain just how good he is at what he does. It'd be nice to know of any major success stories being attributed to Black's methodologies. Brett Manning, on
the other hand, has a who's who of clients who speak only praise of their former coaches. These range from Keith Urban, Paramore's Hayley Williams and multi-Grammy winning Mark Kibble. With the above points in mind, I think the lessons to learn here before choosing a plan are finding out exactly how much each program is going to cost you, whether it is a monthly fee or a one off fee and determining just how good the coach's methods are. Are there any obvious case studies of who has used the program? However, beware, do you get stars in your eyes with any methods you see, just because Michael Jackson used Program X, doesn't mean the program will turn you into the next M.J.
